Well it is a true statement. If not particularly helpful.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 12/01/2016 22:03

But twisted your struggling to understand why men do it arnt you.
why dont you read round your subject.

Moreshabbythanchic · 12/01/2016 22:03

All, and only, white people are racist and all muslims are kind gentle peace loving people. Happy now Emily and twisted?

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 12/01/2016 22:04

sonya its a question of scale though isn't it.

Wordsaremything · 12/01/2016 22:05

Iran has detained two U S ships in the gulf

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 12/01/2016 22:05

Can anyone tweet back to that comment?

polentapies · 12/01/2016 22:05

Council
That's a quote from the first woman who spoke today on the C4 News debate on this - prob will find it on Youtube

Pinkchampchoccies · 12/01/2016 22:06

Gosh, this has all become rather philosophical hasn't it?

I have emailed my MP, thank you to all posters who helped with templates. Thanks

I am still interested in a protest March against gender-based violence in the context of mass migration, how about London?

I will read up more about women's right in NA / ME.

Not sure what else to do for now.

TwistedReach · 12/01/2016 22:06

You didn't say he may well, you said he would.
All of this based on nothing except being the baby of a muslim mother:

'I realised that when that little boy reaches his mid-teenage years he will be bossing his sisters around (even if they are older) as well as his mother. He will become his father's enforcer in the home.'

That, I would argue is racism.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 12/01/2016 22:06

That WEP woman should be invited to participate in the next flashmob in Cologne or any city of her choice.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/01/2016 22:07

My late mother was Coptic Christian Arab.
Her huge extended family have now all emigrated from the Middle East, because it is so dangerous for Christians, particularly women.

The ME was 20% Christian in the early 20th century; now only about 2% and disappearing.

So sad; my mum used to tell of the happiness and freedom she had there in the 1930 & 1940s: to work where she chose, to go dancing and meet young men, to ride her horse alone for hours across country, walk alone through all the villages.
Women in the ME, of all religions, have lost so much.

I'm the only one of our family left in Europe. The others are now all in the USA & Canada, because they fear for the future of Europe.
I hope they are wrong.

polentapies · 12/01/2016 22:08

I think it means Women's Equality Party. She had a similar line to Emily's - that culture has no factor on all this, going on about Oktoberfest etc. The other woman wiped the floor with her.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 12/01/2016 22:08

It ignores the public space aspect and the laughing in the face of the police and probably more I can't think of. It leaves me non plussed.

TwistedReach · 12/01/2016 22:11

Moreshabby: All, and only, white people are racist and all muslims are kind gentle peace loving people. Happy now Emily and twisted?

No, where have either of us suggested anything of the kind. I have just mentioned talking to children who have escaped the taliban.

VertigoNun · 12/01/2016 22:12

I will sit on steps somewhere with a sign, if we can get police present. A mainline train station and out again, so easy to police.

Anyone got a subscription for the Wall St Journal? (I know, longshot)

This looks really interesting;, seems to focusing on the development of democracy and how it has spectacularly failed in Iraq/Afghanistan

If anyone does, can you tell me the gist of it. Otherwise might subscribe tomorrow (too tired now)

iPost · 12/01/2016 22:16

Unfuckingbelievable. What does the WEP actually stand for, because it certainly isn't women.

Wide Ego Politicos ?

We Eat Promises ?

Weird Erratic Pronouncments ?

MamaMary · 12/01/2016 22:17

Pink, throughout history, women and Jews have been downtrodden all over the world.

BigChocFrenzy · 12/01/2016 22:17

EMailing MPs and going to demos are good steps.
It's weird that no mainstream politicians are organising a "Stop the Violence" campaign, or even speaking out.
Are women invisible ?

www.nytimes.com/2015/11/22/world/middleeast/isis-wives-and-enforcers-in-syria-recount-collaboration-anguish-and-escape.html?_r=0

I found this article really interesting, about girls who were married to ISIS fighters, and what happened to them, how they had to fit in to survive really and punished their neighbors then after a while decided to flee, i thought it was an interesting perspective.

Pinkchampchoccies · 12/01/2016 22:18

Thanks I think this post will stay with me. I agree it's very sad that so much has been lost.

Will, I have read a significant amount, about what causes disturbance in children and adults, including violence and perversion. But you need to look individually as well as in groups. I have already mentioned research about early experiences of people diagnosed with anti social personality disorder among other things.
One concern I have about all of this, is that when you keep attacking and ignoring people who have nothing, create stark inequality and hopelessness, you are more likely to create situations in which violent disturbance can grow.
That does not just apply to refugees.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 12/01/2016 22:24

I wish you had come to this thread more often. My Iraqi friends also say the same. That life was good for all faiths in Iraq including Christian and Jewish; women were not harassed, minority faiths were not interfered with, everyone seemed to rub along together harmoniously. I think that was because of the secular efforts of Saddam Hussein. Iraq years ago was beautiful ..... I saw a TV programme 2 yrs about it and how an Iraqi engineer (now living in USA) returned to re-establish the lakes in which rushes grow that had all but dried out. He's managed to re-establish about half of the water and rushes are growing and providing traditional work again.

Why did it all end in your mother's country?

TwistedReach · 12/01/2016 22:25

Big I am really sorry for what your family have been through.
