Your arguments are inconsistent. On the one hand, you are saying that since men in all societies commit misogynistic acts, we shouldn't focus on the specific characteristics of the aggressors in this incident. That's a pretty broad and sexist generalisation to make about a whole gender just to protect criminal members of ethnic minorities.

Then suddenly you're rushing to defend men who are being threatened by what you claim to perceive as a misandristic readiness to sacrifice their lives.

Do you think all men deserve to be feared, or all men deserve to be protected? Because frankly you appear to be lurching from one extreme to another in the desperate defence of the principle of unfettered immigration.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 11/01/2016 15:03

How are Canada managing to prioritise families and LBGT refugees? Genuine question.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 11/01/2016 15:03

X post bungo.

Don't give it oxygen. Report.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 11/01/2016 15:08

Olivepip: Thank you so much for posting this vid. The number of men is MASSIVE, and the cacophony is terrifying. I am going to include a link to this vid in my letter to my MP.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 15:11

Canada are only taking women and children so why can't we

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 11/01/2016 15:12

It is like a never ending tennis rally..

LumelaMme · 11/01/2016 15:13

ignore ignore ignore.
If you ask a direct question, you'll whistle for an answer, believe me.

Moreshabbythanchic · 11/01/2016 15:16

Yes Lumela I have asked 3 times now and still no reply.

LumelaMme · 11/01/2016 15:22

That video is deeply shocking.

It's couched in some very nasty anti-Muslim rhetoric, though. Not anti-Islamist (i.e. ISIS) which I have no problem with, but anti-Muslim in general, which I do have a problem with.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 15:22

It's the cover up that disturbing, why is it being swept under the carpet

polentapies · 11/01/2016 15:24

OMG Olive!

That video is barbaric! I'm not even halfway through, couldn't watch it anymore

Fuck sake, and the left wingers in this country do go apoplectic over fox hunting

Olivepip59 · 11/01/2016 15:25

help it's very upsetting, isn't it?

I've asked a couple of Arabic friends to help with a translation; its way beyond anything I know.

It might be slang or made up; whatever, it's important we raise awareness of the phenomena to those who represent us and help shape our laws and society.

Way, way beyond the 'petty theiving and high jinks' that was described to me by someone at the weekend.

Hillingdon · 11/01/2016 15:26

I like the idea of taking people from the camps as opposed to people using money to be smuggled into back of trucks etc which tend to be young men. Certainly driving through the French port (as fast as we could!) all I saw were young men waiting for their chance.

In amongst all of this will be manics who would do us harm. Who hate the western ways with a passion.

Olivepip59 · 11/01/2016 15:29

Yes, I ignored the commentary. I thought it unnecessary. I also turned the sound off; the images are more than enough

Should I ask MN to put a warning? It is very shocking.

If I've upset anyone by posting it, I'm genuinely sorry.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 15:31

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-35280386

Now they are saying the men were exclusively from a migrant background

carlajean · 11/01/2016 15:32

no reply from my (Labour) MP. Or acknowledgement.

polentapies · 11/01/2016 15:33

Thanks Long

MephistophelesApprentice · 11/01/2016 15:37

The problem is that the MPs and MEPs are too invested in their world view to consider that they might be in the wrong.

I'll bet that their response to all the letters of condemnation will be to assume that there has been a massive resurgence of the right wing, and all the meetings they hold will be about how to suppress the right wing rather than address the issue.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 15:38

At least now the BBC are talking about tarrahush and tahir square in relation to cologne

WildeWoman · 11/01/2016 15:38

Have just received an acknowledgement of my email to the Taoiseach (Irish equivalent of Prime Minister)

"Dear Ms. WildeWoman

I wish to acknowledge receipt of your email correspondence dated 10 January 2016.

Yours sincerely,

Ms. X
Assistant Private Secretary
to the Taoiseach"

No other acknowledgements or otherwise yet. I have emailed ALL politicians in Ireland. We'll see.....

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 11/01/2016 15:38

Hillingdon During the summer when most of the move into Europe took place, I noted that someone 'back home' must be paying the bill for the mobile phones these men were carrying (international roaming as well!). And secondly, as a commentator remarked at the time: because most were still in contact by phone (and later Skype) with family back home, they had not emotionally left their country and therefore did not experience that gut-wrenching grief about never speaking to or seeing family behind. I am not talking about all of them obviously, but the smartly dressed men who always seemed to have clean clothese and an I6.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 11/01/2016 15:39

Olive No warning - it is good sometimes to be shocked.
