We don't necessarily have to close the borders, ABetaDad, I think, but we need to ensure that the Dublin protocols are being rigorously adhered to, including giving financial aid to those countries on the frontlines.

(Or we could just close the borders!)

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 11/01/2016 22:03

I wonder how many posters who are denying /struggling with this have personal experience of dominant males.
Because I do.

My family was patriarchal. Alpha Male Father and brother who clashed and physically fought like Silver Backs Grin

There were times however when they used their physical strength against the women to dominate us at times. Its bloody scary. You are trapped and there is little you can do. And we were feisty women.

Now this is from the UK, in a non religious family.

I can understand how even harder it would be in a land where the laws would also support the silver backs and not only the civil laws but compound that with religious ones. The women in my family had little power, these women have even less. The men have it all.

Its not hard to imagine their attitudes it really isnt.

VertigoNun · 11/01/2016 22:03

EMILY, What is your agenda? I am only interested in a straight one paragraph answer to my question.

OP posts:
hefzi · 11/01/2016 22:04

It's brilliant, polentapies- I had pre-ordered it on Kindle, and was up all night reading and underlining it, whilst also shouting out "Yes!" frequently, and also laughing hysterically. It's just really, really good - totally straight-talking.

TwistedReach · 11/01/2016 22:07

Vertigo, your tolerance of difference and free expression shines through.

VertigoNun · 11/01/2016 22:08

Just musing, who would it suit if we STFU?

OP posts:
ABetaDad1 · 11/01/2016 22:09

hefzi - I didn't know about the UN definition but the EU is about destroying the nation state so it all makes sense.

No internal EU borders means no nation states. It actually quite sinister.

I have said before the EU technocrats and politicians will stop at nothing until they create a war. The Cologne attacks have created fear and hate. Nothing good will come of this. I am sure it will be seen as a pivotal historic moment.

Justanotherlurker · 11/01/2016 22:12

the EU technocrats and politicians will stop at nothing until they create a war police state

FTFY

polentapies · 11/01/2016 22:13

Wow Hefzi, Just googled Mona Altahawy. What a brilliant, brave writer! Am really going enjoy reading her work

Thanks Long for posting the link

VertigoNun · 11/01/2016 22:13

What happened to Claig?

OP posts:
hefzi · 11/01/2016 22:15

ABetaDad I agree - I think (hope) we are at the beginning of the end of the European experiment

ABetaDad1 · 11/01/2016 22:16

Justanother - you are not wrong.

First you create fear and hate, then you set one race of people against another, then you create a police state, then you create a war.

Its all happened before twice in the last century in Germany!

hefzi · 11/01/2016 22:17

polentapies if you're on Twitter, btw, she tweets some good stuff (except she's a Manchester fan Hmm Grin!)

VertigoNun I don't think it counts as paranoia when they're really out to get you!

Btw are Twisted and Emily the same person?

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 11/01/2016 22:18

ABETA

The idea of free movement has been put under a spot light, and tested in a way I am sure never ever dreamt of by its advocates.

In light of whats happening I think its shows us the people how they will stand back and let us be slaughtered literally, attacked - to simply allow the higher principle of citizen of the world, idealistic bollocks.

Immediately after the Paris attacks the bigwig of the EU parliament said in a very dismissive way there would be no closing of borders and please don't even mention it.
We are all being scarified at the altar of these mad zealots. I mean what else has to happen for them to stop this evil?

why cant the EU simply process refugees properly? it makes everyone more safe, it gives less excuse to attack them - it makes them safe from the evil sneaking in with them, it makes the citizens opening up their living spaces to them feel safe...

Merkel has done everything to put all of us at risk.

Then the places with really extreme views the countries, and the politicians are the only ones who benefit along with the chances.

I bet Le Pen is gleeful.

How can people be so utterly blind and stupid.

emilybohemia · 11/01/2016 22:19

Justanother, it is on a par. Some years it has been estimated that rapes may have been higher than 100, though the recorded figures are lower. This is addition to mutliple gropings. Whilst it wasn't hushed up in the press, it doesn't seem the attacks were taken very seriously. The figures are different but the behaviour is the same.

'I'm not sure what you mean by 'someone like you would be all over it.' I am disgusted by the assults. I also recognise that there has been a problem with this in Germany for years.

Twisted, 'There were comments about knowing who we are and that we would be gone soon! Bullying and silencing (or worryingly paranoid). Well funnily enough mumsnet have not banned us. I won't hold my breath for apologies'.

Yes, someone seemed very confident we would be banned for being non racist. It was perplexing but almost amusing in it's strangeness, though it did leave me with a bit of a nauseous feeling.

'It is not trolling or silencing to talk about racism or to say when you think you see it, in a debate that is partially about immigration'.

Hefzi, you were reaching big style and it had nothing to do with sexual attacks on women.

If you are in the UK, there ISN¨T a mass influx of people, numbers have been kept very low, so it is disingenuous to say 'mass influx.'

Hefzi, resettling them is better than leaving them to die anyway, but why should my posts be about whether or not people return to their home country after the war? I accept that immigration is complex, but that seems another issue entirely. 'Scooping them up into Europe' is the best outcome when other countries won't help them and the alternative is death.

Not agreeing with you does not mean trying to shut you up. Telling everyone to not engage with us and calling us trolls was exactly that.

I want women to be safe. And my heart breaks at the idea that this group of men and their terrible acts, and the reactions back to them could actually lead to much much more destrution of human life.

She pushed for uncontrolled migration and this is the result What about all of the thousands of lives saved by allowing syrians to escape death? That is a direct and clear result of allowing refugees to have asylum.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 11/01/2016 22:22

four

You keep mentioning Merkel being leaned on. Can you explain what you mean please. Leaned on by who and for what purpose?

Frankfurterwuerstchen · 11/01/2016 22:23

I tweeted woman's hour to ask when they will be covering this. It is a massive disappointment that they have said nothing and not covered it at all. I think it is shocking and is just another example of how it is really being ignored/played down in the media. The German media are not ignoring the issue and there is coverage everyday. Some of it is not that useful or helpful but at least it is being kept in the news.

I won't hold my breath for apologies'.

LOL. No I would definitely not recommend it, emily and Twisted.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 11/01/2016 22:25

twisted

she could have saved syrians from death but gone about it all in far more responsible way, remembering first and foremost her duty to her own people and their safety, and by doing that, salving their fears and helping to really create a more safe environment for all.

In some ways maybe abet is correct.

How to start a war, allow a country to be flooded with a million people in a matter of months from goodness knows where and to what intent. Then they attack your people, they kill....the people have to respond as they are not being protected..

hefzi · 11/01/2016 22:25

Emily I am not sure if you are terribly naive though well-meaning, shockingly ill-informed and deliberately misunderstanding, or something else entirely.

I am not going to continue to debate with you through Mumsnet, however, as you don't seem to be able to, or are choosing not to, perhaps, engage with what I am saying and, instead keep repeating the same tired arguments. That is, of course, absolutely your prerogative. However, I warmly recommend Hymens and Headscarves to you, if you are interested in taking on an Egyptian feminist's perspectives about the role of religion and culture in misogyny.
