Not an easy one, my mind keeps changing. Right now I'm going for Life On Mars.

Anyone else?

I got into Bowie through Starman/Ziggy and then looked into the back catalogue.

The whole Space Oddity album is brilliant. I love the line 'Janine, Janine, I'd like to know you well but I've got things inside my head that even I can't face' from the song of the same name.

I was given studio tapes of Low and Station to Station, dad knew a studio engineer. I was hooked, wore them out, bought the vinyl and a whole back catalogue.

Space Oddity is one of my favourites... but I am heavily baised towards his early stuff. Have Buddha and Black Tie but nothing after that as I don't like the 'smoother' sound. Sad really. I had told DH I had listened to Black Star and wasn't keen. Even as his considered goodbye, I am not sure I want to own it. I shall bask in the early days, instead.

HelpfulChap · 12/01/2016 10:29

Agreed. The Next Day was a return to form and well worth a listen (£6 in HMV at the moment).

Only listened to Blackstar once so far and not overly keen. Will persevere.

Quicksand

I'm not a prophet or a stone age man
Just a mortal with potential of a superman....

Just beautiful words

OurBlanche · 12/01/2016 10:39

Thanks Smile

And yes, the lyrics, always the lyrics.

Even the ones you miss hear and, in the days before t'interweb can't check

She's so swishy in her satin attack
In her bathrobe and bipperty bopperty hat

I was close...

Oh! Bewlay Brothers

I was Stone and he was Wax
So he could scream,
and still relax, unbelievable

And an apt comment for this thread

We were so turned on back your lack of conclusions

MarchEliza · 12/01/2016 10:43

Rock 'n' roll suicide.

With Life on Mars as a close runner-up.

HelpfulChap · 12/01/2016 10:57

Perhaps even more apt for MN

And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through.

Fantastic Voyage

"I'll never say anything nice again, how can I?" Sad

BeckerLleytonNever · 12/01/2016 17:36

Sound and vision

the man who sold the world

This is not America

Ashes to ashes

Changes

Absolute beginners.

I saw him in concert in '83 at Miltion Keynes, the 'serious moonlight' tour. He was brilliant, him and his band.

RIP. shocked as no one saw it coming did they?

noeffingidea · 12/01/2016 23:24

Heroes.
Also love Golden Years, sorrow, space oddity, china girl, ashes to ashes. Ok, most of them.

Wordsaremything · 13/01/2016 23:45

Wild is the wind
Ashes to ashes
Life on Mars

snowfallisbeautiful · 14/01/2016 07:26

I also love Where are we Now and had forgotten This is not America which is truly wonderful.

Watched Blackstar yesterday and found it very disturbing, can't lie I won't watch it again.

Inkanta · 14/01/2016 07:52

Snow - yes, I agree the Blackstar video is not easy viewing. Can't imagine I will want to watch it again.

Also love -

Five Years
Moonage Daydream

ButtonMoon88 · 14/01/2016 08:01

He looks just like my dad did towards the end of his life in the black star video, despite his beautiful smile in the promo photos, it's not pleasant watching.

snowfallisbeautiful · 14/01/2016 13:47

I can't bring myself to watch Lazarus ...

Yes Five Years

Listening again in the car earlier. Want to moon about listening and looking on-line but really need to do stuff, I will sing in my head Smile

evilcherub · 14/01/2016 16:25

Life on Mars and Let's Dance.

FrChewieLouie · 14/01/2016 16:25

Life on Mars. Think it'll be a while before I can contemplate listening to Lazarus.

Cooroo · 14/01/2016 22:48

Cygnet Committee. I thought it was amazing when I was 15 and it still is.
Lady Grinning Soul
Wild is the Wind
Rock and roll Suicide

Plan to catch up on later Bowie. I've listened to so much this week and it's all wonderful.

whitershadeofpale · 15/01/2016 07:22

Sorrow
Modern Love
Heroes.

Does anyone have little bits in songs that you just love? No matter what I'm doing I always have to join in the 'wham bam thank you mam' in Sufragette City, and the 'Oh no love, you're not alone' in Rock 'n' Roll Suicide or even 'oh baby, just you shut your mouth' from China Girl (that always reminds me of the Wedding Singer).

batshitlady · 15/01/2016 09:09

So many classics, but 'Heroes' is the one for me...The rest of the album is not very good though.

IMO Bowie made phenomenal one off songs but whole albums were not always great. Sometimes a bit too 'experimental' for my taste.

DurhamDurham · 15/01/2016 09:17

I keep listening to Absolute Beginners, it's always been a favourite of mine.
I can't listen to his new album at all at the minute, it just all seems too sad and I spend the whole time listening to the lyrics trying to read in to them.
I've given it to my husband to listen to in his car, I might go back to it one day.

I've got the Nothing Changes cd's in my car and Modern Love came on. I had a flash back to when I was 12 and me and my brother were in the kitchen listening to the chart show on the radio and doing the 'double hand clap dance' that the backing singers did in the video.
I text my brother and he remembered too.

ShelaghTurner · 15/01/2016 09:18

Heroes. No question.

Provencalroseparadox · 15/01/2016 09:19

Used to be Modern Love, then Life on Mars and Heroes for many years.

These days I veer between Sorrow and Fashion.
