Wasn't there a general consensus that we were going to try and steer clear of upsetting news stories?

OK - I'll admit I'm feeling particularly sensitive today but there are currently two really upsetting thread titles in active convos. Didn't post on either as a) I didn't want to read them and b)it would have put them back up the top

Couldn't face reading the whole of this, but agree with www that it's the tabloid nature that's not ideal - I think discussion is fine, but tbh most of the 'in the news' threads aren't discussion - they're 'look at this story', '' '' 'evil b*stards', '' 'why did you post this thread title'. And I do think that if there is a horrible title in active conversations, it shouts at you every time you click on active conversations. Imagine if at home, you went to get a book off the shelf and the bookshelf shouted '8 year old boy raped', you went to get a cup of tea, and the kettle whistled '8 year old boy raped', and then you went to the loo, and as you flushed it, it sang '8 year old etc. etc'. I'm being facetious but they do jump out at you, and it wouldn't take much to be a bit more cautious with titles.

Can see what you're saying, but think it's exaggerated associations to make.
