Wasn't there a general consensus that we were going to try and steer clear of upsetting news stories?

OK - I'll admit I'm feeling particularly sensitive today but there are currently two really upsetting thread titles in active convos. Didn't post on either as a) I didn't want to read them and b)it would have put them back up the top

OP posts:

and I agree QV about common decency and consideration.

Oh, I do love it when people haul their little grievances from one thread to another. Merry Christmas to you too, Jools

MistleToo · 07/12/2006 20:22

Yes Pruni and much less prescriptive.

Sorry Greeny I don't get you? Yes, I've quoted you but am not sure of the link but then my memory is failing fast.

Merry Christmas to you too

life is too short for grudges, if I've dissed you elsewhere, apologies, it would only be for the debate at hand, I like you.

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 07/12/2006 20:24

Well, I like you too, but both the phrases in quotes in your post were mine, and neither of them was particularly offensive in my book!

Ah, well

wickedwinterwitch · 07/12/2006 20:37

I'm with Hunker and Greensleeves (but more importantly, wtf did Aitch post to get deleted when "motherfking cnt was" allowed to stand? My mind is boggling )

I think it's fine to debate/discuss the news but the thread title yesterday was really in yer face, made me think about it a lot and would have done whether I'd opened it or not. And I would rather not have read it really. It is the tabloid title and nature of these threads I object to, not the item being discussed.

MistleToo · 07/12/2006 20:45

I mixed two things from this thread - the (imo and maybe it's an age thing) foul language to your analogy of the thread titles being 'scandalous' and the fact that you think posters get a kick out scandal (which I tend to disagree with as a generalisation).

You are quite right, your posts were not offensive and I didn't mean to infer that they were.

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 07/12/2006 21:02

www. i posted 'goodness, you are obtuse'. i meant that the person in question was lacking in sensitivity, however having checked the def it could mean that i was saying she was stupid, which was not my intention.

not that the person in question reported it, we don't know who did... both myself and the other person thought it was overkill.

(oh and then i called her a m**c*ing aepiece, and she called me a c*y-faced t**head and that's when it kicked off. seriously. )

wickedwinterwitch · 07/12/2006 21:04

lol aitch!

...and they don't call her Pruni for nothing

MerryChristmasfromQV · 07/12/2006 21:12

I agree Pruni.

PeachyIsNowAChristmasFruit · 07/12/2006 21:37

I also agree Pruni, but then I am an old timer too

MissMistletoe · 07/12/2006 21:45

I think it's ridiculous to ask 'would you walk down the street shouting out that thread title?' Er no, would anyone? Can't belive how ridiculous both threads have got, to be honest. Thank you for your comments, whensantagotstuckupthechimney, yes, my time on MN has become miserable, and somewhat disturbing reading some of the posts and responses, so I'll probably not bother in future. It's a terrible time waster anyway.

PeachyIsNowAChristmasFruit · 07/12/2006 21:52

That's a shame Missmistletoe, i can see how it can feel like that to a newbie (it was much smaller when I joined (its so big now- must be much more intimidating) but generally its a welcoming ans supportive forum, stick around and you will find that. But whatever you decide, Merry christmas X

MissMistletoe · 07/12/2006 21:57

Thank you, Peachy, I will give it some thought. The whole thing's made me feel quite fed up, tbh, but never mind, I'm sure I'll get over it. It's a shame when some people let a forum like this down, but I guess it's one of those things. Merry Christmas to you too

BahHunkBug · 07/12/2006 22:08

I only posted "foul language" (on this thread) to demonstrate my point. I actually wouldn't use either word in a thread title, ever, because I know people would be offended by them and I'm intelligent enough to work out that putting offensive (to some) words in thread titles is Not On.

Sorry if it upset you, Jools.

And Pruni, agree totally.

tamum · 07/12/2006 22:11

I completely agree Pruni. Sad, isn't it.

to bahunkbug's remark about being 'intelligent enough not to put words in thread titles that may cause offence to some.' I'm not going to react ,though.

ParanoidSurreyHousewife · 08/12/2006 08:12

I think that you just have .
