Wasn't there a general consensus that we were going to try and steer clear of upsetting news stories?

OK - I'll admit I'm feeling particularly sensitive today but there are currently two really upsetting thread titles in active convos. Didn't post on either as a) I didn't want to read them and b)it would have put them back up the top

I agree with Aitch that a discussion about children being out after dark, based around that story, wouldn't have caused me to post in objection, although the title of the actual thread is very crass IMO.

I am making a wider point about sensationalist journalism and its place on MN. I am not demanding the right to censor or remove other people's posts - I am exercising my right to comment on what I see as a bad thing for MN and for news reportage as a whole. Being a public forum, there should be plenty of room for the scandal-lovers and their following, those of us who despise the whole tendency, and those who get their rocks off telling everyone else to shut up and stop arguing! That is my understanding of the word "debate" - we disagree, we discuss at length, within certain defined boundaries (no personal abuse etc), sometimes we get heated - we may or may not ultimately revise our views. Isn't that what we are doing here?

mummydear · 06/12/2006 23:21

It didn't upset me and I din't bring it to MN attention .. if that gets delelted what about the earlier posting with C**T in etc etc

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 06/12/2006 23:22

I did abuse Piers Morgan, actually. I hold up my hands to that. But I doubt he's bothered

SnafuOutOfHiding · 06/12/2006 23:22

Perhaps Justine slumped across her keyboard with boredom whilst reading this thread and hit the wrong key...

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 06/12/2006 23:23

apols nevertheless, mummydear, i've just looked it up in the dictionary and while i am happy to suggest that you are not being particularly sensitive to some of the issues raised this evening i in no way meant the other defition and would not wish to be interpreted as having said as such. apologies again.

mummydear · 06/12/2006 23:24

Perhaps delete the whole lot then .

I wanted a bloody early night tonight aswell !

mummydear · 06/12/2006 23:26

No problem ATICH - no offence if you thought I was a triangle !

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 06/12/2006 23:27

i'm more scalene myself...

SantaGotStuckUpTheGreensleeve · 06/12/2006 23:28

I'm a rhombus with silly little arms and legs stuck on and a big squat head

ScummyMummy · 06/12/2006 23:29

Could well be, snafu. These sorts of thread with some people saying don't do this we don't like it and others saying we'll do what we want who are you to police the boards are often v dull, esp when they are about the rules of the internet board itself. It's the disappearing up one's own arsehole thing, I suspect.

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 06/12/2006 23:29

okay everyone. now let's kick oliveoil's head in for drawing that bloody line...

JUST joking.

DingdongMegaLegsonhigh · 06/12/2006 23:30

My dictionary give the definition "rounded at the extremity" I would be quite happy to be called obtuse in that context.

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 06/12/2006 23:32

oooh, i love the expression 'het up'. it sounds so random and yet perfectly describes what you feel at the time. could be from any language in the world...

DingdongMegaLegsonhigh · 06/12/2006 23:33
