I think the press are vultures. I know that, most people know that. It's that old chestnut of stars wanting the press when it suits them but complaining about press intrusion when it doesn't. They know that that's the way it is, right or wrong.

MrsApron · 06/11/2006 20:19

on another note 4 years old in a pushchair? no one got anything to say to that

puddle · 06/11/2006 20:19

Sadly VB's career depends on her visibility and image so she needs to feed the paparazzi all the time. And she and her husband are uite happy to sell us every detail of their lives to promote their perfume, clothing lines etc when it suits.

Contrast with people like Catherine ZJ and Gwyneth P who also have kids but are not very often in the papers - I can't think I've ever seen pics of any of their children except the one of Apple at live8. It can be done.

Coolmama · 06/11/2006 20:42

vvvQV - the pictures are arranged precisely to keep them in them in the news - otherwise, the celebrity machine, beast that it is, would have left them far behind! It's amazing how so many other people who are far more famous are able to live fairly quiet and relatively peaceful lives...

sandcastles · 07/11/2006 00:01

Celebs can't win either way can they? MN critizes Kate Moss because she's never seen with her daughter...bad mother, too busy partying etc etc. THEN when VB & her family are snapped trying to go about their daily lives in an airport, she is critisized for having her children in the glare of the paps.

And I'm sorry, but what is wrong if Romeo is in a buggy? Maybe there was a good reason, mabye she wanted to get to her destination quickly and didn't have time for a slow walking toddler, and we all kow how busy airports are, maybe he wonders off, lets face it, having to work her way through the group of paps with a wondering/slow walking toddler is no fun, I'll bet!! My dd is 3 .3 and she is still in a buggy when we go shopping as otherwise it would take me ages.

MN is all about bringing mothers together, supporting each other. We face enough crap in our lives and yet we still feel able to pass judgement on a celeb doing what she feels is best for her family!

If they had planned the 'eye shielding' so far in advance as to put him in a pushchair, I'm surprised they didn't give him a blanket to hide behind. Much more effective.

But really, if you knew flashlights could be dangerous to your child (and I know only a few people have photosensitive epilepsy), wouldn't you make a statement/send out a message in advance - rather than wait until he was in the middle of it?

Still, even though she has sought fame, I don't think her children should be made to suffer or feel uncomfortable.

tortoiseshell · 07/11/2006 09:58

God, women are bitchy. All these comments at 'she should bow out', 'she courts publicity', 'she is putting her child at risk', 'she shouldn't put her child in a buggy'.

Last time I looked he had a dad as well. He doesn't exactly hide from publicity.

Tbh, I couldn't care less about the celebrity of the Beckhams - but I'm sad for them that they have to cope with something like this - it's hard for any parents. And if they've only just had the dx, then they're probably feeling terrible about it. Poor little kid.

I'm just interested how much criticism VB gets, compared to DB.

TheHighwayCod · 07/11/2006 09:58

noep
bothe of them are tossers torty

tortoiseshell · 07/11/2006 09:59

Might well be Cod - but if so, he's equal in tossiness!

tortoiseshell · 07/11/2006 09:59

tortoiseshell · 07/11/2006 10:01

I'm going to use that one today!

LemonTart · 07/11/2006 10:03

tortoiseshell - that is exactly what my DH always says when he reads any posts on here or newspaper articles moaning about her. It is always criticisim - too thin, too nasty, too moany, spending habits, horrid clothes, bad parenting, bad hair blah blah yet quick to forget his recent marital indiscretions, his messy hair, clothes, spending habits etc etc
Women always bitch about women. Makes them feel better about their own lot

sunnysideup · 07/11/2006 10:16

I am amazed that some people are able to believe that this kind of being photographed all the time fame is NOT worked for. Of course she could stop the photographers! People like VB need the photographers and their 'people' tip off the photographers all the time, about where their clients are going to be! It's so naive to think otherwise. It doesn't just 'happen'! There are loads of uber-famous people who live a quiet and mainly unphotographed life quite different to the hysterical sort of following around that someone like VB has.

I don't say that she tipped off photographers to come and hound her poor son, just that this DOES happen when you spend loads of time courting and tipping off the press on many other occasions. She LOVES it and it is her career, basically.

tortoiseshell · 07/11/2006 10:16

I just remember when there was all that crap in the papers about DB having various affairs - everyone blamed VB...

same as Heather Mills etc. I don't know the people, and frankly don't care what they do, but I'm interested that people always blame the woman. The only exception I can think of in the media is Princess Diana.

NothingButAttitudeOnMN · 07/11/2006 10:18

My God the bitches of MN are out in force!!!

Bibliophile · 07/11/2006 10:24

How can anyone think that VB doesn't court publicity - specifically photographers? What was that 10 outfits in seven days for NY fashion week about? All that poncing about with Katie Holmes in matching outfits? Those 'love boat' shots with David the week before their perfume was launched? All endless changes of swimwear and staring lovingly into each other's eyes.
Of course it is sad for them if Romeo has epilepsy, but really, she has been in the business for years and years with the toughest, biggest publicists in the world working for her, she knows if you open up every intimate bit of your lives to the media this is exactly what happens. Much bigger stars than her have a much lower profile, because they choose to have one.

singersgirl · 07/11/2006 10:31

That was kind of what I meant. If they really knew that flash photography was going to be dangerous to their son's health, surely they could have tipped off airport security staff/ photographers/newspapers etc. Maybe not. Maybe I'm naive in thinking that most (not all) photographers would respect a request like that.
