I really hope that they will leave them alone now.

southeastastra · 05/11/2006 21:10

blimey poor romeo, i wonder if photographers will leave them alone now

alexa1 · 05/11/2006 21:14

my DD suffered convulsions when she just turned one in the july. she had 3 episodes and told it was probably a febrile convulsion. then nothing until the november (same year) another 3 episodes, was told she had epilepsy and put on epilim which she was put on for 2 years and fit free, then weaned off it. she has been off it for nearly one year and fingers crossed.
i still to this day do not know if she was having febrile convulsions or she had epilepsy and just grew out of it. she is four now and fit free and i hope it continues.
maybe romeo will grow out of it as many kids do.

somethingunderthebedisdrooling · 05/11/2006 21:17

epilepsy is one of the taboo topics out there still.

Ulysees · 05/11/2006 21:18

that explains the so called convulsions a while back then. Poor wee mite

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/11/2006 21:23

How 'big' of the NOTW to publish the photo's as 'a lesson' to others....FFS

southeastastra · 05/11/2006 21:23

blimey yes that's sick isn't it? vvvqv

7up · 05/11/2006 21:24

the photo of him holding his arm over his face is so sad. only 4years old and he knows what the camera flash could do to him

LIZS · 05/11/2006 21:27

It must be very worrying for the whole family but what confuses me a little is why they put him into a situation where they must know there would be photographers waiting, without issuing any statement or request beforehand to avoid the flashlights. Hopefully he will grow out of it.

Bozza · 05/11/2006 21:29

It is one of those unknown things though isn't it. My sister had a fit at aged 12 which is thought to have been caused by an out of tune television which then fell on top of her (big old heavy thing as well). She is now 30 and has not had another. However I know that she is still wary of TV interference, strobe lighting etc.

MsUnderstood · 05/11/2006 21:30

Poor boy.

southeastastra · 05/11/2006 21:31

they probably can't avoid alot of the paparazzi lizs

worksforaliving · 05/11/2006 21:32

hmm,
have not read this story in the papers, but
is it entirely their fault? a mother whose stated ambition in life is 'to be as famous as persil washing powder' and who sells pretty much every aspect of her life to magazines/ newspapers/anyone who will pay...can surely be held somewhat responsible for her family's continued presence in those publications no?

7up · 05/11/2006 21:33

dont be daft, they get photographed 24hours a day, they cant live like hermits

edam · 05/11/2006 21:39

Very sad if true but the Beckhams could easily have warned the pap agencies about this.

Btw, only a tiny proportion of people with epilepsy are affected by flashing lights - something like 5 per cent.

LIZS · 05/11/2006 21:41

Maybe not SEA since majority are freelance and therefore not readily contactable but someone from her party could surely have gone on ahead with a polite request to at least minimise the need for her outburst(which would be perfeclty understandable had they ignored any such request).

MsUnderstood · 05/11/2006 21:41

wfal, yes, but she didn't ask for her son to have epilepsy and if camera flashes are dangerous then I do feel a bit sorry for them tbh. They might be rich and famous but actually, I do think the Beckhams love their children as much as the rest of us and this must be horrible. I'd feel sympathy for anyone whose child had epilepsy but can you imagine not being able to control the exposure to flashing lights? It must be a complete pita.

worksforaliving · 05/11/2006 21:41

for a girl who is without any clear talent, you have to work v. hard to keep folk interested enough in you to get photographed 24/7. even if your husband is a hardworking sportsman.

misdee · 05/11/2006 21:42

that picture made me feel so so sad. poor lad.

must be so scary.

but its hardly their fault he has epilepsy, its just one of those things.

hopefully they will leave him alone now (the papparazzi)

The paparazzi should not be photographing ANY of the children full stop. the children are not famous. It is their parents who are famous. Ok, photograph them - they want it. But the chldren have no say in the matter and simply should not be photographed unless prearranged. Simple as that IMO.

southeastastra · 05/11/2006 21:45

but they did make a statement about a year ago

Don't disagree Hula but presumably there is still a risk even if the kids are not the actual target, but just happen to be around while their parents are photographed. No 4yr old should have to shield their eyes like that but it is up to his parents/carers to minimise his exposure to the possible triggers. I don't recall any explicit statement regarding the press just some concerns voiced over Romeo's health , but would be happy to be corrected.
