26 year old occupational therapist student missing in Glasgow.
Mumsnetters Please keep your eyes and ears open - you might find something beneficial to her being found.

Should clarify I've not actually seen it, just commenting on what a previous poster said had been happening on it last night.

TheCraicDealer · 15/04/2015 16:22

I wouldn't have been considered a "one night stand" kinda gal at the beginning or even middle of my university career, but in my last year i did it twice. There's a first time for everything. And most of us have made some questionable conquests whilst under the influence. Maybe he was funny, great craic or she was a bit homesick and just wanted someone to cuddle her for a bit. If she was seen by an independent witness leaving his flat safe and well it's a shame he's being dragged through this so publicly and his appearance/ability to pull judged so harshly.

Ironically leaving without saying to anyone is known as an Irish Goodbye. My sister does it all the bloody time, very annoying. It's possible she just didn't want her friends knowing she'd copped off with someone. I hope they find her soon, poor wee blade.

RudeBarbandCustard · 15/04/2015 16:26

Is the extent of the police search - specialist teams, underwater search etc normal while it's still a missing persons case?

Because it sounds to me like they know more and are now looking for something more sinister.

I really hope I'm wrong. Bless that young girl and her family.

sleepyhead · 15/04/2015 16:39

I would say it makes complete sense given the area.

Unfortunately, even if there was no foul play, there is a possibility that she may have fallen into the canal - I really hope not, but it was one of the first things I thought of when they said where they had found her bag Sad

If she was drunk or otherwise not thinking straight, and got lost in the dark in that area it's a possibility.

This whole story is so sad. A guy I went to school with went missing a few years ago, after leaving a nightclub, he was found in the Clyde weeks later. Was really horrific waiting.

Someone on my FB posted that a golf club in Bearsden has been closed off by police, no idea if it's to do with the case or not though.

Really horrible, have been thinking of her friends and family all day.

I hope that she is somehow found OK, but with passage of time that must be looking unlikely.

It's important that the last place she was known to be is carefully and forensically searched to establish if there are any traces of harm coming to her there. If not, then accident or meeting another person as yet unidentified after leaving that flat both remain possibilities.

There's bits and pieces of news of areas being searched, but I've not seen any further specific requests for information from the public.

Jackieharris · 15/04/2015 17:28

Her handbag being found in a bin suggests foul play rather than an accident. Why would it be there unless someone was trying to hide/dispose of it?

There is a possibility she will never be found- like suzanne pilley.

MrsPeabody · 15/04/2015 17:33

I didn't realise her bag was in a bin, I just assumed it had been dropped.

duckbilled · 15/04/2015 17:47

My cousin fell into the canal and drowned while walking home drunk, but this investigation seems to have taken a different direction. Unfortunately i think the police strongly suspect someone has harmed her. 100% praying for a better outcome though.

It's terribly sad. I agree, so many similarities to Jill Meaghar.
I read on the rte website that her bag was found in a bin. Really seems as if we don't know much of the story.

PrimalLass · 15/04/2015 18:22

I'm another one who used to career around Glasgow drunk at 3am, and would leave a nightclub without telling my friends. It all felt very safe at the time, but we were just very lucky.

Praying for news. DP grew up in the streets just up from Dorchester, so it's all very close to home.

Momagain1 · 15/04/2015 18:36

The thing is, unless she was drinking a lot more after she left the club she wouldn't have been drunk enough to drop her bag before falling, if that is what happened.

She began drinking early in the evening, and if she was drinking steadily until leaving the club, there was plenty of alcohol still in her system 3 hours later, especially small as she was. Not to mention if she was wearing dressy shoes, presumably heels, walking on uneven pavements or over grass and dirt, in the dark. Not stumbling would be surprising.

Various news sources on Twitter saying that police have detained a 21-year-old man in connection with her disappearance Sad

roughtyping · 15/04/2015 18:50

They've cordoned off a farm just up the road from us apparently. Very upsetting. Her poor family.

MorrisZapp · 15/04/2015 18:56

BBC reporting Craigton Farm cordoned off after a definite line of enquiry.

21 year old man being detained.

mkz10 · 15/04/2015 18:57

21 year old arrested, significant new scene. Utterly devastating.

MrsPeabody · 15/04/2015 18:59

Oh no, her poor family :(

Psipsina · 15/04/2015 19:01

What a very beautiful girl and so clever as well. She looks absolutely lovely in the pictures. How anyone could hurt her I have no idea.

mkz10 · 15/04/2015 19:01

Journalist just posted on twitter, that he thinks they found her.

sleepyhead · 15/04/2015 19:03

Sad Oh no. Her poor, poor parents.

Viviennemary · 15/04/2015 19:04

I don't think journalists or anyone should be announcing this until the police have confirmed it.
