Her father's statement was truly heartbreaking. You can't help but feel for her family.

Jenga2703 · 11/08/2015 17:15

I've just watched her father's statement and my heart is breaking for them all. I can't imagine getting a phone call such as that, and then having to go on. Not only go on, but to face the psychopath who put their daughter to such harm.

Sorry this isn't very coherent, but I'm just so overwhelmed with sadness that any family has to live through this kind of hell.

Agreed CamelHump - casually googling it like it's no big deal.

It makes me sick.

His flat is about 10 minutes from me and (somewhat selfishly) that makes me feel so much worse.

TheScottishPlay · 11/08/2015 17:50

I've just seen Karen's Father's statement on the news too. It's one of the most heartbreaking and moving things I've ever seen. Overwhelmingly sad.

AyeAmarok · 11/08/2015 19:05

I've just noticed that the "grey or silver car" that police had originally asked people if they had seen it wasn't his car.

His car looks to be a navy Ford Focus.

Hopefully that lawyer will also check herself in future when she tries to convince a jury that a dangerous violent sexual predator is just a bit daft and misunderstood, and fine to be free to roam our streets.

Lightbulbon · 11/08/2015 19:33

That's what all rape defence lawyers do though.

The problem is that juries falsely believe that it is common for women to invent rape claims. Hence the mn #webelieveyou campaign.

We need a societal change in attitudes or more women like karen will be murdered.

AyeAmarok · 11/08/2015 19:38

Irrelevant in comparison, but from what his solicitor said in court today he was also drink driving that night.

She said he "can offer no rational explanation for his actions, he was extremely intoxicated, he reacted angrily to a trivial argument he had with her in his car which was the trigger for his actions".

AyeAmarok · 11/08/2015 19:45

Oh and apparently a juror from the previous attempted rape trial is now saying that the jury couldn't hear the evidence of victim or the crime scene examiner due to technical difficulties in the courtroom.

Hmm

Her poor family. The details coming out are every bit as bad as expected, if not worse. I live in the west end of Glasgow. Kelvin Way is two minutes from my house. Thinking of her being so frightened, just down the road, the poor, poor soul.

He just disgusts me. A spoiled idiot who clearly thought he could have whatever he wanted and get away with anything. I'm only glad he's not on the streets anymore.

Wishful80smontage · 11/08/2015 20:01

So sad and so frustrating that he should have been behind bars of justice had been served. Her poor family its sickening and heartbreaking to read and they are living this nightmare. What a world we live in when this happens.

Ubik1 · 11/08/2015 20:17

Is this the same person?
here

AgentCooper · 11/08/2015 20:31

Yes, Ubik, same person.

bridie69 · 11/08/2015 21:29

I just also read the dad's statement. I thought it was the saddest thing I have ever read. How on earth can we live ina world where this happens? My DD is just a bit younger than this poor girl and I cannot imagine how I would cope with this. WHY WHY WHY is there so much violenceand hatred towards women, why?? All she was doing was helping people in her job and enjoying her life. I just don't know. And do they really have to have the horrible details all over the press. I was in Ireland recently and our friends sister knew the family a bit. Ireland such a tightknit and caring country for its own as well. It makes me never want to let my daughter out of my sight

mrsmeerkat · 12/08/2015 17:53

This whole tragedy hasn't been out of my mind since it occured.

I can only imagine her to be a kind hearted soul and what a lovely family.

I cannot believe he got off before Angry

ML29 · 12/08/2015 18:45

I am sure he has lied through his teeth when he said she made him angry by something negative about the type of men in the club. Even though the police said there was no sexual assault, I bet that was his intention when he tricked her into getting into his car.

I hope he rots in prison.

passmethewineplease · 12/08/2015 18:53

I hope he dies in prison.

That statement from her family is tragic. Just awful.

"Yesterday 16:45 Lightbulbon

Those jurors have blood on their hands."

No - Alex Pacteau is the one to blame.

AgentCooper · 12/08/2015 21:24

The statement from her family shows a lot of grace and goodness. They offer thanks to the police and people of Glasgow and to even think of others when you're in a situation as horrible as that shows real kindness.

During those few days that she was missing, we were all hoping she'd be ok. I work at Glasgow Uni, not Caledonian, but there was the feeling on campus that she could have been any of our students. How we all felt about her death is totally irrelevant and microscopic in comparison to her family's grief but for them to even acknowledge the feeling in Glasgow for their daughter shows real kindness and grace. I wish this had never happened to them.

munchkinmaster · 12/08/2015 23:33

The link about his previous conviction for forgery says he was in a serious car accident at 17. Maybe he has always been a risk taking tosser and accidents are part of that. (Forging money seems a really stupid scheme too).

It doesn't say he sustained a brain injury but I wonder? Could make him more angry and impulsive? No more or less to blame though.

AyeAmarok · 12/08/2015 23:43

Even if it did Munch the sexual assault/attempted rape in the alleyway was before the car crash, so he was evil before too.
