The guy's mother made a statement and named him, saying he is totally innocent and there was a witness, not her son, who saw her leave the flat at 4am.

I am being judgemental here, but I don't see her meeting him as a stranger and going off with him just like that, no way !

Maybe she already knew him, and I might buy that as a precursor to her going back to his flat, but there is no way she met him as a stranger for the first time and went back to his flat and had consensual sex with him.

mkz I wouldn't necessarily think anything of that, if it weren't for the fact she left without her coat, which is think makes it seem more ominous.

In clubs you'd always have your handbag with you, but your coat would be in the cloakroom.

It's not about him being a stranger, he is 21years old and the judgemental part comes from when I saw his photo from a previous court hearing where he was convicted of fraud. I am sorry and I know absolutely nothing about her taste in men, but if he was a stranger, she would not have gone with him to someplace she did not know. If he was known to her, that might be a different matter.

The police have confirmed that after she was seen on CCTV at the nightclub, they only have a single witness account of anyone who saw her , therefore his mother is apparently incorrect that there are witnesses who saw her after 4am.

mkz10, that is a bizarre assertion unless you know her (and to be honest even then). People go home with people they don't know for consensual sex all the time. His previous conviction for fraud is irrelevant, when people have one night stands they are hardly taking a CV!

Of course he might have been known to her and her friends, that might be how they found him so quickly, but to sat it's not possible that he was a stranger is just ridiculous. Speculation like that isn't helpful at this stage.

I do feel for her family poor girl.

It is entirely normal for students to go to a strangers house and have sex with them. It happens all the time.

I know, I know, absolutely, totally wrong of me to assume because of his looks that she would not have gone near him ! and I was just remembering that poor landlord who everyone was convince was behind that lovely girl's murder based solely on his mad professor image.

The man she left with is not currently suspected of a crime. Whether this is because of lack of evidence, or because the police do not think he's connected, isn't clear yet.

There must be stuff the police aren't saying about the circumstances of her leaving the club. And it's totally possible that she did go back to his place, left and then something else happened.

Until they find her, they have no evidence she came to any harm. The detective has made it clear it is still a missing person case, despite their grave concern for her welfare.

It is looking very likely at this point that she has come to harm, but no evidence yet as to what that might be and where it might have happened.

Yes it seems suspicious that he was the last person to see Karen before she went missing, but it could equally be the case that he is telling the truth.
