26 year old occupational therapist student missing in Glasgow.
Mumsnetters Please keep your eyes and ears open - you might find something beneficial to her being found.

I agree Teladi it's very close to home. I also have memories of being in that place and thinking nothing of walking home late at night. Very upsetting week.

feckthemall · 15/04/2015 22:41

Girls why would there be so many fire engines at the scene? I feel sick at the thoughts of what could have happened her.

Cantkinsale · 15/04/2015 22:43

The Express needs brought to justice for reporting that. True or not (and I sincerely hope it's not true) the police will be the ones to make an official statement either way. Has Karen's brother arrived from Oz yet? It's highly possible there has been no official word about anything significant seeing as the family have the right to know what's going on before the general public, and if he's still travelling they won't have the chance to talk until he lands.

Thinking of them all tonight and praying for a good outcome.

Nice try, 123. I am not the only one. But still, go for the personal insults and make this all About Yourself.

Feenie · 15/04/2015 22:56

MNHQ is monitoring - and has commented. You'd do well to re-read Iona's post on the subject of speculation, 123upthere.

PacificDogwood · 15/04/2015 23:01

I too am hoping against and have been thinking of Karen and her family all day on and off Thanks

lotsofcheese · 15/04/2015 23:07

I lived in the west end of Glasgow for years, and worked at the Western Infirmary. I've always felt so safe there; with hindsight it was probably just good luck.

So sad that this young lady is missing; her poor family - they must be going through hell. Hoping against all the odds that she is found safe.

123upthere · 15/04/2015 23:11

Hoping tomorrow will bring better news for her family.

RachelRoyce · 15/04/2015 23:12

I don't think a bunch of strangers needing to 'make sense of it in their own mind' trumps anything the family are going through, this mawkish speculation is grim.
It is possible there is a family tonight who are suffering the worst news a family could get. It's possible there isn't. Whichever the case 'who knew what first on the internet' is irrelevant.
Until there is a proper press release about the case it's just crass and legally inappropriate to be speculating.
Karen's family will be in my thoughts tonight.

123upthere · 15/04/2015 23:14

Delete entire thread then please.

Feenie · 15/04/2015 23:19

No, keep the wishes and hopes for the family - but delete the one or two wholly inappropriate posts.

123upthere · 15/04/2015 23:20

There is always a mumsnet thread when something unthinkable happens in the news and posters tend to discuss what they have read in newspapers or what has already been reported. Should such threads be banned? Genuine question. I mean no offence to anyone or to you ExpatinScotland I am just utterly shocked and upset at this weeks' events most probably because I spent much time in that area as a student. Sincerely was just airing my thoughts with others to try and figure it out never ever wishing to create dramatic speculation or detract from family's trauma. Like everyone else my thoughts are with the family. I hope this explains it better.

Feenie · 15/04/2015 23:26

Iona stepped in at a point where a poster had claimed to know the family and posted 'information' that was totally inappropriate and definitely not reported publically. Yes, this always happens - there is always one person who claims to 'know' the family and posts awful things. That's what caused the reaction of MNHQ and many horrified posters. It has been deleted now, and as long as it doesn't happen again the thread should stay to support the right kind of publicity and support around the case.

You owe expat an apology, btw, 123.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 15/04/2015 23:33

Her poor mum and dad. what a nightmare. I can't stop thinking about what they must be going through.Sad

Hoping there will be good news, soon.

123upthere · 15/04/2015 23:33

Feenie - as Iona has stated let's keep this thread clean and not insult or tell other posters what to do. I've explained myself already to Expat if you read my post below carefully. It's late. Everyone is emotional at what has happened. Let's leave it at that.

MellieGrant · 15/04/2015 23:34

Suffice it to say that I would imagine that many women with happy memories of living in Glasgow as a student has looked at that map today and thought 'What if...'

I certainly did and it's a sobering thought :(

Thinking of Karen and her family tonight. Hoping for good news in the morning.

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

Feenie · 15/04/2015 23:38

I haven't insulted anyone - or told anyone what to do. You seemed genuinely confused as to why expat had commented, called for the thread's deletion and complained that threads such as this all end the same way, so I explained for you what Iona had said and why.

I see now you weren't at all confused.

123upthere · 15/04/2015 23:42

I agree Maryz I understand completely that stating things as fact when unconfirmed is never ok. I was discussing what other posters had written. I believe it was another poster who went across the line with facts etc and this has now been deleted. I understand. Hmm I'd appreciate if posters could now stop responding to me in my posts. HmmHmm

Feenie · 15/04/2015 23:45
Hmm
Feenie · 15/04/2015 23:51

Genuine question

Usually people who 'genuinely' post those kind of questions expect them to be answered, 123. Hmm They generally don't ask posters who take the time to respond to stop responding.

I really hope there could still be hope in this situation, nothing is reported definitively yet so its still possible.

99redbaboons · 15/04/2015 23:59

Media reports are that a "hugely important" discovery was made by a member of the public.

This was around the time that the 21 yo was then detained. It's not looking good.

Awful news.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/04/2015 00:09

does anyone know what "definite line of inquiry" means?

And the parents are quoted "She is our only daughter" - so what is this thing about a brother?Confused
(Only daughter means to me "only child" but I'm not English so maybe misunderstood)

forago · 16/04/2015 00:10

no in English that is consistent with having one daughter and boys
