Cleric suspended for his comments linking dress to rape

I am very pleased that the mosque comittee has suspended him for 3 months to ponder on the inadvisability of his comments. Postivie too was the way the Australian muslim community has condemned him.

His comments linking uncovered women to 'meat' were utterly repugnant

Shock
mumbleslikeazombiechum · 27/10/2006 13:15

He's only saying what I suspect an awful lot of Muslim men here think. Utterly repulsive lot.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/10/2006 13:19

its not just men that think it, unfortunately.

1 step forward, 3 steps back....

He apologised, fine, but the thought is there, isnt it?

southeastastra · 27/10/2006 13:21

cats and meat! how repulsive! yes one step forward about 100 back grim

Blandmum · 27/10/2006 13:25

Mumbles, to be fair he has been censured by loads of Australian Muslim men (and women)in a variety of organisations.

I didn't post this as a 'knock the muslims' thread, but as a 'This man is an arsehole' thread IYSWIM

I think his choice of wording shows a huge amount of mysogeny

"If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab [headscarf], no problem would have occurred," he added.

So women should stay indoors too?

mumbleslikeazombiechum · 27/10/2006 13:34

I know MB I'm just in an arsey mood today and taking it out on nearest dickhead.

Callisto · 27/10/2006 13:38

He is a total idiot but I am sure too that his view isn't unique among muslim men (or women).

Whoowhoobewhooooooh · 27/10/2006 13:38

I heard a man on Radio 4 make the point the other day that the hijab hyper-sexualises both genders, as the assumption is that if a man sees a woman's flesh, he won't be able to control himself (it's his 'nature' apparently).

He (and I) found this view of human nature depressing.

And it's a view that was being postulated by a woman on the same programme.

Pinotmum · 27/10/2006 13:39

What? Because they have their heads uncovered he likens them to meat. How can any sane person follow the preachings of these mad clerics but he recieved a round of applause for that gem

Blandmum · 27/10/2006 13:43

This is a translation of some of his sermon, translated by a newspaper, but has been verified by other sources

'Those atheists, people of the book [Christians and Jews], where will they end up? In Surfers Paradise? On the Gold Coast?

Where will they end up? In hell. And not part-time. For eternity. They are the worst in God's creation.

Who commits the crimes of theft? The man or the woman? The man.

'Women's responsibility'

That's why the man was mentioned before the woman when it comes to theft because his responsibility is providing.

But when it comes to adultery, it's 90% the women's responsibility. Why? Because a woman possesses the weapon of seduction.

It is she who takes off her clothes, shortens them, flirts, puts on make-up and powder and takes to the streets, God protect us, dallying. It's she who shortens, raises and lowers.

If the meat was covered, the cats wouldn't roam around it.

Then it's a look, then a smile, then a conversation, a greeting, then a conversation, then a date, then a meeting, then a crime, then Long Bay jail. [laughs].

Then you get a judge, who has no mercy, and he gives you 65 years.

But when it comes to this disaster, who started it? In his literature, scholar al-Rafihi says: 'If I came across a rape crime - kidnap and violation of honour - I would discipline the man and order that the woman be arrested and jailed for life.'

'Uncovered meat'

Why would you do this, Rafihi? He says because if she had not left the meat uncovered, the cat wouldn't have snatched it.

If you take a kilo of meat, and you don't put it in the fridge or in the pot or in the kitchen but you leave it on a plate in the backyard, and then you have a fight with the neighbour because his cats eat the meat, you're crazy. Isn't this true?

If you take uncovered meat and put it on the street, on the pavement, in a garden, in a park or in the backyard, without a cover and the cats eat it, is it the fault of the cat or the uncovered meat? The uncovered meat is the problem.

If the meat was covered, the cats wouldn't roam around it. If the meat is inside the fridge, they won't get it.

If the meat was in the fridge and it [the cat] smelled it, it can bang its head as much as it wants, but it's no use.

'Satan's weapons'

If the woman is in her boudoir, in her house and if she's wearing the veil and if she shows modesty, disasters don't happen.

That's why he said she owns the weapon of seduction.

Satan sees women as half his soldiers: "You're my messenger to achieve my needs."

Satan tells women: "You're my weapon to bring down any stubborn man. There are men that I fail with. But you're the best of my weapons."

The woman was behind Satan playing a role when she disobeyed God and went out all dolled up and unveiled and made of herself palatable food that rakes and perverts would race for. She was the reason behind this sin taking place. '

So women are the 'best' of Satans weapons. Nice guy! And adultery is 90% the womans foult. What an utter unmitigated ARSE!

Hmm... puts the Pope's quote from the medievil script into context I think.

Whoowhoobewhooooooh · 27/10/2006 13:46

He sounds like he spends too much time in darkened rooms. He clearly needs some time in the healthy fresh air.

And perhaps some electro-shock therapy.

themoon666 · 27/10/2006 13:47

Life in jail for being a rape victim FFS!!!

HumphreyComfrey · 27/10/2006 13:47

What unbelievably ignorant and inflammatory views!

And he's only been suspended for 3 months to ponder the inadvisability of his comments?

Methinks somehow that is a little optimistic!

Callisto · 27/10/2006 13:47

I just don't know what to say after that MB. How depressing.

Pinotmum · 27/10/2006 13:50

So I've got to sit in my house veiled! I think he should be catapulted into orbit - gobshite!

Blu · 27/10/2006 13:51

Some English judges have been known to think along the same lines.
Without being suspended at all.

PLenty of men in general have this mentality - 'it's on show, it's up for grabs.'

At least there has been high profile condemnation of his views, from muslims and non-muslims alike.

KathyDCLXVI · 27/10/2006 13:52

VVVQV - one of the secretaries at my work (female, Christian) thinks similar things

I wonder how the Daily Mail is taking this. After all, it's a golden opportunity for them to bash a Muslim, but OTOH a lot of their readers probably agree with him....

Blandmum · 27/10/2006 13:53

Yes, God forbid that you should go out 'dallying' Pinot!

You might lead some clean living chap to rape you, and that would be sad, because it would be your fault. And when he was caught you should be put in prison for life.

What a kindly, intellegent, man this is.

ARSEHOLE!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Blu · 27/10/2006 13:54

And LOL, he is likening men to feral cats! Hardly flattering!

Blandmum · 27/10/2006 13:54

Blu, fully agree that the condemnation has been excellent.

I posted because I was so angry with this ARSEHOLE!

And as you say, brings back bad memories of Judges in the past in the UK. And they were fucking ARSEHOLES as well!

OP posts:
Pinotmum · 27/10/2006 13:55

I'm laughing but I know I shouldn't be - it's absurd but I agree there are plenty of non-muslims who think this way as well.

AnguaVonUberwald · 27/10/2006 13:55

I don't think he actually appologies for his statements though did he? I thought he just appologies for the fact that "people might have missunderstood them"!!!!!!

wannaBe1974 · 27/10/2006 13:57

what an utter arse.

Is it any wonder people hold the views they do of the muslem faith when idiots like him spout that kind of crap, and although it has been condemned, he's been suspended for three months - if this is not the view of islam, then he should never be allowed to preach again, so as to give the message to the rest of the world that this is not what Islam is all about.

That kind of preaching reminds me of a story I read somewhere of a brittish flight attendent who, when the plane touched down in Saudi Arabia said "welcom to Rhiad, please set your watches forward 3 hours and your calendars back 4000 years".
