My thoughts are with the victims of the latest barbaric act by Islamic extremists.

The world needs to wake up and defend itself.

RIP those who died and prayers for those critically injured.

Muhammad Ibn Saud (died 1765) doesn't seem to have been funded by anyone.

countrystudies.us/saudi-arabia/7.htm

But, with their home-made religion and plenty of arrogance and aggression/jihad, he and his self styled religious leader al Wahhab set up a perfect blueprint for ISIS. Seize whatever territory you can. Destroy everything and kill anyone who disagrees with you (Arab or not) and, religion is what I say it is.

claig · 10/01/2015 16:40

Yes, they are very similar to modern day Isis - a fundamentalist regime etc, but that article says that the Egytrian Muslims had the Wahhabis on the run and defeated them. So how did the Wahabbis end up winning? What happened? And will Assad have Isis on the run or will they and their backers succeed in their plans?

tidytidy · 10/01/2015 16:46

"Thanks to your democratic laws we will invade you; thanks to our religious laws we will dominate you."

Extremists have one goal, to convert or conquer.

DoraGora · 10/01/2015 17:27

The Wahabis didn't win. They lost. Abd Allah Saud had his head cut off. But, the Egyptian army eventually withdrew. It did its best to extirpate the region and the Wahabis before going. But the tribes of Najd clung on and continued Wahabism and, eventually there was a second Saudi state (and a third, the one we now know.)

So, the basic answer is, they didn't win in the end. They started again, (and again).

Just watched Anjem Choudray being interviewed. He says Islam means "submission" and that's what we must all do - submit. He wants a global caliphate ruled under Sharia law, which will be the law if the land, so everyone must abide by it. He wants capital punishment for adultery, apostasy and homosexuality. We must all cover ourselves too.

All said with a smile, as though he is deliberately trying to wind us up.

I also spent some time reading about the accounts of ex-Muslims. Very interesting and lots if patterns in their outlook. I have just finished a book about the Maldives. I selected it in the library as I thought it would be a travel book. Wrong. It covers the political and religious society there too and mentions the arrival of extreme Islam in the 1990s after which all traces of Buddhism were destroyed, including exhibits in the museum. The extremists now want to introduce the hijab, ban pork and alcohol, which would kill the tourist industry stone dead. They have already achieved a temporary ban in spa treatments!

So how does extreme Islam travel to a small isolated nation in the middle of the Indian Ocean that did not experience it until the 1990s? Interesting.

The Taliban (student) was home-grown in Afghanistan and originated due to outrage over child abuse and other acts being committed by the local war lords. The people turned to Mullah Omar to fight against them. The movement was Pashtun in ethnicity and was (still is) encouraged, supported and funded by the Pakistani intelligence services. It spread throughout Afghanistan but was being fought in the north if the country by the Northern Alliance at the point at which 911 occurred.
Bin Laden is supposed to have contributed many millions of his personal wealth while he was living in Afghanistan.

salafism seems to be mentioned a lot in the context of Al Queada and ISIS

'All said with a smile, as though he is deliberately trying to wind us up. '

I have never thought Choudhary was for real, nor 'The Hook', nor the EDL etc. I think they are all there to "wind us up" and that is why they are given so much publicity and are invited onto news programmes such as Newsnight, where Tommy Robinson and Choudhary used to appear. I think PEGIDA is the same, newly created just at this time and run by a former drug dealer who has served time in jail.

I remember a Channel 4 News epsiode, where bouncing Jon Snow was sent to interview a radical Muslim in his office and behind his head there was a huge sign that no viewer could miss which said "Islam will rule the world". It seemed obvious to me that these are wind ups for us the viewers. 'The Hook' is a pantomime villain and I think he was supposed to "wind us up".

claig · 10/01/2015 18:40

Here's Choudhary in the old days

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1240691/Swilling-beer-smoking-dope--secret-past-hate-preacher-Anjem-Choudary.html

Read Richard Littlejohn on Choudhary. He spells it out.

claig · 10/01/2015 18:43

"One former friend of the Muslim extremist said: 'I can't keep a straight face when I see "fundamentalist Muslim Anjem Choudary" in the papers attacking the British for drinking or having girlfriends.

'When I knew him, he liked to be called Andy, would often smoke cannabis spliffs all day, and was proud of his ability to down a pint of cider in a couple of seconds."

The smile did fade when the interviewer told him how much he disliked him and when he called him an S O B.

claig · 10/01/2015 18:50

'The smile did fade when the interviewer told him how much he disliked him and when he called him an S O B.'

But why put him on TV unless it is to smear Islam, frighten people and wind us up?

It's theatre and S.O,B adds to it. He is the pantomime villain and the interviewer calling him that, after giving him ample airtime to spread his views, participates in what is similar to the Orwellian "two minute hate" that we are all wound up for too.

woodhill · 10/01/2015 18:51

What used to bug me so much about them was the fact that they supposedly hated us so much but they were happy to take all the things that the UK had to offer and not contribute.

noddyholder · 10/01/2015 18:54

I can never understand why Choudhury and his ilk don't go and live somewhere that practices Islam in the form they require. There are some beautiful places which he could go to where all his wishes would be met and sharia law etc are part of everyday life Yet he chooses to live here surrounded by things which he says offend him and with no hope of it ever being any different.

claig · 10/01/2015 18:58

"I can never understand why Choudhury and his ilk don't go and live somewhere that practices Islam in the form they require.'

Because he is supposed to wind us up and he can't do it from in the midst of the "Caliphate" because the ordinary public don't watch news about what happens in the "Caliphate" because they don't care.

BackOnlyBriefly · 10/01/2015 18:58

Why put him on TV

Well I have often said that we should give airtime to people like that. If you only allow reasonable people on then people will think they are all reasonable.

That doesn't mean he doesn't exist though.

woodhill · 10/01/2015 19:00

I suppose he liked it here because he doesn't have to do any work but still gets money, housing and healthcare etc, whilst demonising the West. I totally agree Noddy.

claig · 10/01/2015 19:00

This is about 'The Hook'.

"Hamza secretly bought the four-bedroom semi as a buy-to-let investment for £220,000 cash while in prison in 2006.

His family, meanwhile, has been living in a £600,000 council house provided by the taxpayer while claiming benefits. One of their neighbours is Labour MP Ben Bradshaw, the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport.

Former Cabinet Minister John Hutton lived next door to the cleric's family before putting his property on the market for £1million in June 2007.

Hamza bought his investment property while a Treasury order was supposed to freeze his assets and prevent him from buying or selling houses.

But he is thought to have easily sidestepped the anti-terrorism sanction by registering the house under a relative's name."

claig · 10/01/2015 19:04

'If you only allow reasonable people on then people will think they are all reasonable.'

But that's the whole point. It is supposed to wind Mrs Jones, with her lumbago, up.

"Hamza ['The Hook'] secretly bought the four-bedroom semi as a buy-to-let investment for £220,000 cash while in prison in 2006."

It's a wonder anyone can keep a straight face.

woodhill · 10/01/2015 19:05

yes I remember that Claig.

I think the government should have seized the property. very convenient it was in a relative's name but I suspect this happens all the time so that everything can be got for free.

woodhill · 10/01/2015 19:05

do you think it is all made up then Claig?

claig · 10/01/2015 19:08

'do you think it is all made up then Claig?'

Not all of it. I think Choudhary, 'The Hook', the EDL and PEGIDA are, but not everything.

claig · 10/01/2015 19:15

'I suspect this happens all the time so that everything can be got for free.'

Lots of ordinary voters, with their lumbago, think that and say that at the doorandidates but they are assured that this cannot happen.

'But he is thought to have easily sidestepped the anti-terrorism sanction by registering the house under a relative's name.'

Were any questions asked about this? Probably not.

BackOnlyBriefly · 10/01/2015 19:17

But that's the whole point. It is supposed to wind Mrs Jones, with her lumbago, up.

But you would not allow him on to keep Mrs Jones from knowing that some Muslims are like that.

claig · 10/01/2015 19:22

'But you would not allow him on to keep Mrs Jones from knowing that some Muslims are like that.'

But Mrs Jones, with her lumbago, trusts BBC Newsnight and the Oxbridge educated learned interviewers. She believes everything they say. But they didn't show her the article about Choudhary knocking back the ciders and didn't tell her that

"Former Cabinet Minister John Hutton lived next door to the cleric's family before putting his property on the market for £1million in June 2007.

Hamza bought his investment property while a Treasury order was supposed to freeze his assets and prevent him from buying or selling houses.

But he is thought to have easily sidestepped the anti-terrorism sanction by registering the house under a relative's name."

The Daily Mail told her, but she doesn't read that because the BBC doesn't like the Mail.

claig · 10/01/2015 19:24

Mrs Jones, with her lumbago, is not supposed to ask "what's going on?", she is being told what is going on.

Tommy Robinson, 'The Hook' and the rest of the cast and the gang are on Newsnight to 'wind her up', 'piss her off' and frighten her.
