My thoughts are with the victims of the latest barbaric act by Islamic extremists.

The world needs to wake up and defend itself.

RIP those who died and prayers for those critically injured.

Wet, thought the Taliban was home grown in Afghanistan, it's vital not to forget the enormous boost it was given by the U.S. to try to bring down the Soviets.

Daft as it may sound, even bloody Rambo 3 is dedicated 'to the valiant people of Afghanistan.' The whole storyline of that film, released in mainstream movie theatres all over America, is the moral obligation of the U.S. to keep the mujahideen armed and powerful. So it's no secret, but doesn't get mentioned much in discourse these days.

Not sure which point I'm making, but it's so clear that power and money are what make the extremism we're seeing today possible. You have to wonder about the level of dedication to Islam some extremists actually feel in their hearts.

BackOnlyBriefly · 10/01/2015 19:43

She believes everything they say Now that part is sad. We don't just need a better kind of media, but a better class of viewers.

But they didn't show her the article about Choudhary knocking back the ciders and didn't tell her that

They probably should, but what would it prove? Are you under the impression that it means he is not Muslim?

Tommy Robinson, 'The Hook' and the rest of the cast and the gang are on Newsnight to 'wind her up', 'piss her off' and frighten her.

And you would like telling people what's going on to be forbidden by law? I guess in many Islamic countries the news is like that.

DoraGora · 10/01/2015 19:53

Just because somebody (possibly an unnamed source) said that I liked cider as a student, that doesn't actually mean that I do. And, if it's in the Mail, we're probably actually talking about a cup of coffee which I left half finished in 1962.

lemonmuffin1 · 10/01/2015 20:04

'I can never understand why Choudhury and his ilk don't go and live somewhere that practices Islam in the form they require. There are some beautiful places which he could go to where all his wishes would be met and sharia law etc are part of everyday life Yet he chooses to live here surrounded by things which he says offend him and with no hope of it ever being any different.'

Exactly Noddy, and most other people dont understand either.

lemonmuffin1 · 10/01/2015 20:13

Our society has given so much to people who want to come and join us, and it seems like it's not enough.

noddyholder · 10/01/2015 20:38

I don't mean it in a 'go back' way in any form just that all that appears dear to him is available just not here!

sebsmummy1 · 10/01/2015 20:57

I think when David Cameron and his croanies trot out the line 'this isn't about Islam' he is actually pretty accurate. It could be any ideology in any century. It's primarily about power and control, with a huge helping of greed and sadism thrown in.

There are gangs all over the world that operate similarly. A hierarchy - someone at the top that is devoid of morality and enjoying a luxurious lifestyle off the back of other people's misery and murder. Sergeants and Lieutenants who do their bidding and enjoy the wealth and prestige that go along with the fear of association. Foot soldiers who move alongside the more ordinary people and recruit new members. The only difference is the gangs are working within countries that have an effective police force and Government. It's a hell of a lot easier to be lawless in an unstable country with corrupt officials.

aermingers · 10/01/2015 21:00

Chouhury drinking cider shows that at one point he was perfectly happy to sample the freedoms he wishes to deny others in a state governed by Sharia law.

Why does he think he has the right to try a western lifestyle and then an Islamic one and decide which he prefers if he's not prepared other people to be allowed the same choice?

Although having read some of the patronising posts about 'Mrs Jones and her lumbago' I think some posters on here may have morein common with Choudhry than they'd like to admit in terms of patronising others who they believe are less capable of makinf decisions than they are.

WetAugust · 10/01/2015 21:08

"Our society has given so much ...."

the flaw in that statement is that "out" society is also "their" society. Society is all inclusive, it's not something that is frozen in aspic. So the traditional British values that made what was "our" society such an attractive and welcoming place have been altered to include the non-British values of those we welcomed in

Why do we expect everyone who comes to live in the UK will do so complete with a fully-fledged set of liberal British values? It's a ridiculously naive expectation. And you cannot educate people in British values as the PC cultural Marxists insist that everyone's culture and values are as valid as everyone else's. So people come with very non British values that remain unchallenged and our Glorious Leader Cameron instructs us to "integrate more with Muslims".

We seem to have reached the stage in this country where our laws are optional. No Social Services / Police investigation of pregnancies under the statutory consent age, totally blinkered approach to Rotherham, etc. It's got to the stage where unelected public officials are now deciding whether the law of the land is actually worth implementing and who spend their time investigating Tweeters who have dared to call someone "fat".

We have totally and utterly lost the plot.

DoraGora · 10/01/2015 21:13

Which tradition? We've also had slavery, the British Empire and the engineering of an Irish famine based on free trade. British culture isn't all cuddly, you know.

claig · 10/01/2015 21:13

I use "Mrs Jones and her lumbago" as representative of an ordinary person with ordinary problems who doesn't care about "Choudhary's Caliphate" and that is why she is immune to the spiel and ends up not falling for the 'Hook', hook line and sinker. It doesn't work. It backfires.

DoraGora · 10/01/2015 21:17

Much non-EU British immigration is now Commonwealth/formally Empire based. Much of France's non-EU immigration is Algerian. I don't suppose anyone needs reminding that Algeria is a former French colony. So, before we get too touchy feely about integration, maybe we ought to raise a toast to the colonies (and all the people who died pacifying them).

claig · 10/01/2015 21:18

Yje media has probably got Choudhary's number on speed dial. He is their go to man. It's a con. It's a sham.

WetAugust · 10/01/2015 21:22

But the majority of the population are Mrs Jones and her lumbago Aerminger. Hardly anyone in this country is actively involved in politics and loads of people have no idea if what's happening in the news. They would only notice if that nights episode of E attenders was cancelled. You have more people on the Style and Beauty pages of MN than you do on In The News and Politics combined. The BBC is selective in what news it feeds us as, even though we are paying fir this "public" service, it's also being given money by other vested interests, such as the EU, so where is its impartiality?
And with the multiplicity of 24 hour digital channels nobody has to watch the News anymore.

So we have a population that shows through very low election turnouts that it has very little interest in politics or who governs the country or what laws are passed or how the EU influence affects their lives etc until a specific issue impacts their own world. So organisations like the Law Society think it's OK to suggest how to draw up Sharia compliant wills that discriminate against women and a small group of people notice and have to be very vocal about this abuse. That should have been on News at 10, instead of K I'm Kardahians latest exploits.

And hating the Daily Mail is just playing into the hands of the people who dislike criticism and who don't want to point out examples of what has gone very wrong in this country. No, they would rather that Mrs Jones just took her mind off her lumbago by watching Corrie

WetAugust · 10/01/2015 21:23

I didn't say British culture was cuddly did I Dora? Don't put words in my mouth.

DoraGora · 10/01/2015 21:31

I think that if we didn't have essentially two party politics, then more people would be involved. There is a suspicion (which I agree with) that Oxford PPE grads are a pipeline to frontbench politics. That automatically cuts out most people. (I think that's why the UKIP candidate lied about her degree, regardless of her ability to spell the name of the college.)

claig · 10/01/2015 21:31

This is what one of the most influential media people in the world tweeted

"Murdoch says Muslims must be held responsible for France terror attacks

News Corp boss tweets to say even peaceful Muslims must bear burden of deadly Charlie Hebdo death toll ‘until they destroy growing jihadist cancer’"

www.theguardian.com/world/2015/jan/10/rupert-murdoch-muslims-must-be-held-responsible-for-france-terror-attacks

But Mrs Jones doesn't agree with him, no matter how often they put Choudhary on TV, because Mrs Jones knows her Muslim neighbour or Muslim doctor etc and she knows it has nothing to do with them and is all about a bunch of funded fanatics.

People like Choudhary don't represent the millions of Muslims in this country or the billions of Muslims across the world and putting him on TV winds Mrs Jones up but it doesn't make her change her mind. It doesn't work.

DoraGora · 10/01/2015 21:34

Rupert Murdoch is 83. Is he actually typing on twitter? If one of his corporations wants to create that propaganda, then it obviously has an agenda.

claig · 10/01/2015 21:37

Murdoch is always on twitter and it is well worth reading what he tweets because it is an indication of what a very powerful and influential person thinks. What he says has a lot more importance than what the Caliphate clown Choudhary says. From what Murdoch says, you can get an idea of what many influential people also think.

WetAugust · 10/01/2015 21:42

The Guardian has actually changed it's tune since We'd. Meanwhile Cameron, Hollande and Obama maintain it's nothing to do with Islam.

'Don't mention the war. I did on e but I think got away with it". - Basil Fawlty

"Crisis, what crisis?" - JIm Callaghan, just before he lost the election

Peace in our time. - another deluded do-gooder

WetAugust · 10/01/2015 21:44

And from Murdoch you get a flavour of what Mrs Jones' morning paper is going to tell her and what her digital news channel will let her see.

claig · 10/01/2015 21:46

Yes, from Murdoch you will hear the media line and of course the media does influence people.

Pixel · 10/01/2015 21:49

We've got Clegg saying "if the attackers did turn out to be Islamist extremists". Wonder who he thinks they were?

claig · 10/01/2015 22:10

Putting Choudhary on TV after major tragedies to give his view is a bit like putting the head of the Westboro Baptist Church on TV and implying that he speaks for Christians rather than the Pope.

WetAugust · 10/01/2015 22:13

its all a deception to avoid identifying a problem because once you acknowledge there is a problem people will expect politicians go have answers and MI 5 has akready stated there us no way we can be protected

So the politicians maintain their us no problem and peoples exasperation with their deceit increases.
