KareninsGirl · 07/01/2015 13:00

My thoughts are with the victims of the latest barbaric act by Islamic extremists.

The world needs to wake up and defend itself.

RIP those who died and prayers for those critically injured.

Permacult. When you resort to abuse you are admitting you have lost the argument. I am not and never have been and never will be a member of the EDL - not that I should even have to state that to you as bigots are usually quite happy to stick to their own bigoted views regardless of the facts

With views like you have expressed the country is fucked because you cannot even admit what the rest of the world is seeing. just keep your head in the sand

My conversation with you has now terminated

sebsmummy1 · 09/01/2015 16:07

Ginger turn the bloody TV off if that's what you are watching.

JoanHickson · 09/01/2015 16:07

BBC has a one minute delay, I appreciate they do.

GingerCuddleMonster · 09/01/2015 16:10

I can't, DP is engrossed in it. Suppose being of military stock it's understandable he's explaining the flashes and the entry explosions and I'm sat here in disbelief. It's like watching DP job on tv also and bringing it home, when he deploys he's not a foot soldier he's not SF either but he does have a specialised role.

my thought and prayers are with the people of France this evening, they really are, a nation living in terror.

DoraGora · 09/01/2015 16:11

Lots of people have predicted that terrorists will do more of this stuff because of the copious news coverage. And, they're actually designing strategies to get more TV time.

Nancy66 · 09/01/2015 16:14

oh god Kay Burley do bog off

sebsmummy1 · 09/01/2015 16:16

I was going to say that the news channels with their in depth analysis and interviews with top security people actually help the terrorists with tactics and information. Turning terrorism into Entertainment is ghoulish and the equivalent of slowing down to rubberneck a RTA.

If you have to watch it and get yourself excited then it might be respectful not to post minute by minute updates on here whilst wringing your hands for the victims.

Tsou

I didn't read it that way. I saw it that a Muslim policeman, Ahmed, was killed by Muslims in the course of his duty and that his death was just as distressing as the cartoonists, of course, and that the irony was that he died to protect the cartoonists freedom to criticise his religion. I thought the hashtag is a tribute to the Policeman. I have already had the hashtag tweeted to me by a policeman. Ahmed died protecting the French way of life and we should acknowledge his sacrifice.

I sometimes think Huffington likes to stir up trouble

permacult · 09/01/2015 16:16

Wet.. that is nonsense. You do not know my views and my religion is so abhorrent to Isis that they would kill me first over you. However, before you start making detailed plans for the repatriation of people who have been living happily in the UK for generations, consider that Muslims would have nothing to benefit from such an attack. Which begs the question.. who is benefiting in the long run? Sitting there with your popcorn revelling in the adrenalin and spewing hate and bigotry is not going to make you a worthy human being.

Tsoukalosy · 09/01/2015 16:19

wet Thats a good point, i didn't think of it that way, The man was a hero.

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 16:20

I watch it to understand what is happening. A picture tells a thousand words.
I don't believe in ignoring things that are hard to deal with. I resent the implication that by taking an interest in current affairs I am a rubber-necker.

DoraGora · 09/01/2015 16:20

I'll tell you who is benefiting; it's egotistical nobodies who can hold a machine gun. That's who. Normally they'd amount to nothing. But, now, because they've killed a few people, the whole world knows their names.

Look at me, Mum. I'm on telly.

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 16:22

Yes Dora. Cowards who are shooting women and unarmed office workers.

The Winners were those pulling the strings of the Brothers who just died.

sebs is there really any need for that?

GingerCuddleMonster · 09/01/2015 16:25

watching to get exited Wtaf? no, watching a current affair unfold and seeing in person the terror and harm caused by extreemism, not buring ones head in the sand, but confronting it psychologically, even if it makes uncomfortable viewing. there's no exitment, it's a feeling of deep worry, and sadness with a mix of disbelief and horror. There's nothing exiting about it imo.

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 16:27

Sebsmummy. more personal abuse. You too have lost the argument. You have no idea what I do so don't flatter yourself that you do.
You're also BLOCKED

DoraGora · 09/01/2015 16:27

There probably needs to be a media debate at some point, too, involving the public. Because there is a reasonable argument that rolling news might be feeding the terrorists. There has already been an Internet debate about ISIS on utube, twitter and the like. But, how anyone proposes to the TV media what it reports and how, is beyond me. They (journalists) reacted badly to Leveson and that didn't involve killing anybody!

msgrinch · 09/01/2015 16:28

yy ginger.

I feel no excitement watching, just a stark realisation of what the world is coming to.

Ribenamum · 09/01/2015 16:30

Al Jazeera saying the brothers are dead, Hostage OK

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 16:30

Thank you Ginger. that's exactly how I would have explained why I watch the television reports.

which are saying that the 2 original killers are dead. The Jewish supermarket siege has had explosions. very contradictory reports on the outcome

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 16:33

Sometimes by watching you can learn more about how to protect yourself in a crisis.
What I don't watch are things like Eastenders, Casualty etc. There's enough strife in the world without watching manufactured stuff

DoraGora · 09/01/2015 16:34

Once this is over, which should be soon, Europe wide security agencies are going to need to get double busy. Maybe we can put this one down to sleeping over the Xmas holidays. But this has been a proper intelligence pig's ear.
