KareninsGirl · 07/01/2015 13:00

My thoughts are with the victims of the latest barbaric act by Islamic extremists.

The world needs to wake up and defend itself.

RIP those who died and prayers for those critically injured.

I don't either. I've had to delete 5 people of the dreaded Facebook today (some quite close friends) as the bile they were posting was just to hard to see.

One was suggesting going and attacking a local mosque (not a close friend). Stupid ignorant twat.

DoraGora · 09/01/2015 15:37

Lebanese Hezbollah leader says the French extremists have insulted Islam more than the cartoonists did and ISIS has done more to harm Islam than anyone else in history.

I'd say that's a fair assessment.

SlaggyIsland · 09/01/2015 15:38

Just as mourned though. And more dead.
So why do we just accept some things and not others? Fear some things and not others?
Talk about changing our whole world for something that statistically will almost certainly never touch us?

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 15:39

SlaggyIsland. That's just conflating the discussion. yes there are deaths on the roads. They are generally called accidents. Nobody wanted them to happen. That's the difference - these terrorists want it to happen

We really do need to stop going off on tangents trying to equate death rates, other terror groups etc and focus on the problem before us. If we just say shit happens then you are being just as fatalistic as the religious person who puts everything down to the will of God It's not. It's preventable. It just needs sensible people to acknowledge the problem,em and start implementing dome solutions

SlaggyIsland · 09/01/2015 15:40

Tsouka don't be obtuse. The attack was planned. The chance of it happening to you or I is random.
I'm talking about your safety here, in the UK, not where your family lives.

Ribenamum · 09/01/2015 15:41

What these people want is Muslim and non Muslim at each others throats in Western countries.

Judging by some responses here, they may well get their wish.

What really bothers me is the hand wringing career politicians who lead us. They haven't the balls or vision to lead us safely in such times.

was that satire? The Islamic Cricket Test? GrinGrinGrin

SlaggyIsland · 09/01/2015 15:43

You are missing my point. My point is that we fear some things so much more than others when logically we shouldn't.
We fear the big headline stuff that is unlikely to harm us.

SlaggyIsland · 09/01/2015 15:44

Anyway I'll bow out of this now. But try not to be too afraid. Don't let them change your world into something unrecognisable.

Ribenamum · 09/01/2015 15:45

But try not to be too afraid. Don't let them change your world into something unrecognisable.

Amen to that!

BackOnlyBriefly · 09/01/2015 15:47

The actual examples might not be the best ones, but I'm quite serious about the general principle.

I know no one will do it. They will talk and talk and then eventually it will come to tanks on the borders of Muslim controlled areas of London, Birmingham etc.

Tsoukalosy · 09/01/2015 15:47

wow I will remember that when the next one hits. My life has been a constant fear of repercussions of war and extremism, so sorry that I am jaded, and that I have experienced a lot in my life. A lot of things can be deemed unlikely or low risk. Terrorism is certainly not low risk whatever way you look at it.

DoraGora · 09/01/2015 15:48

I think politicians wring their hands. I think that's what they do.

The ones who lock up vast swathes of the population, and have more secret police than citizens, well. They may or may not be effective. But, politicians they are not.

BackOnlyBriefly · 09/01/2015 15:48

Don't let them change your world into something unrecognisable

That IS my fear, but probably not the way you meant it SlaggyIsland.

fourmummy · 09/01/2015 15:50

DoraGOra - Lebanese Hezbollah leader says the French extremists have insulted Islam more than the cartoonists did and ISIS has done more to harm Islam than anyone else in history - you've lifted my spirits wth this. Thank you for posting.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 09/01/2015 15:52

What we all need to do is unite against terrorism. All, irrespective of religion.

Uniting against terrorism is not coming out with:

  • Well, charlie Hebdo asked for it.
  • it was probably mossad
  • if you mess with the important people in Islam...this is what happens.
  • its all the Wests fault.
  • They haven't killed random members of the public.
-Its no big deal. There are more driving accidents.

Absolutely shocking that people will say this shit.

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 15:55

Massive amount if gunfire at original Paris killers siege

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 15:57

JohnFR. Well said. You should come back on the hour every hour to remind them Grin

Thereyouarepeter · 09/01/2015 15:58

Fact is, these terrorists were petty criminal potheads and had been since forever. Attack in the name of religion, my ass.

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 16:00

Lots of gunfire now. BBC showing adverts promoting the BBC

MonstrousRatbag · 09/01/2015 16:02

It is fucking insane to expect Muslims to apologise for something which is clearly nothing to do with them personally or ordained by their religion.
You may be a liberal free thinker or an aetheist but until I personally tell you to alter your faith do not fucking dare to tell these Muslim posters what they should or should not believe.

Yes, hear, hear permacult

www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/01/08/ahmed-merabet-jesuisahmed-charlie-hebdo_n_6437984.html

Has anyone else read this? Although its a nice principle, it is still underming the je suis charlie movement.

I am not Charlie, I am Ahmed the dead cop. Charlie ridiculed my faith and culture and I died defending his right to do so. #JesuisAhmed

The point is surely still free speech, that hero cop had his right to freedom and speech and chose to live an honest life. That is sort of under the je suis charlie movement anyone, freedom. This seems a little bit like they are trying to say its still Charlie Hebdo's fault this happened.

GingerCuddleMonster · 09/01/2015 16:04

events unfolding, more explosions. I can't belie what I am seeing, it's like some film. This is tragic.
