My thoughts are with the victims of the latest barbaric act by Islamic extremists.

The world needs to wake up and defend itself.

RIP those who died and prayers for those critically injured.

happybubblebrain I'm a man. Explain that to me again slowly because I was too busy being hitting people with a big club to take it in.

You know there are people who would like to reduce numbers of black people too and some who thought less Jews would be better. You might have more people who agree with you than you thought.

Tsoukalosy · 09/01/2015 13:50

Monstrous This is why we need to make immediate changes, especially in a time of terror. We are all sat here now wondering when the next attack will strike and how many will be killed at the same time we are allowing these perpetrators to walk among us pretending that they are average joe. We are expecting a huge attack and massive loss of life yet our politicians are shit scared to offend them.

GingerCuddleMonster · 09/01/2015 13:55

I haven't rtft my apologies,

This is just a horrific time in Paris right now, I assume we are about to see a massive change to our world, and I fear it won't always be for the best, and the rounding up of those of the Islamic goth is not something the world wants to see, however extremists and those expressing extremist values need to be detained for national security. the terror suspect act has to kick in, in full force now surely. An entire nation a UK allie is living in fear of the next strike. it's just horrific.

SarahSmiles · 09/01/2015 13:56

So, racist, ant-semite conspiracy theorists:www.thejournal.ie/charlie-hebdo-killers-condolences-1872627-Jan2015/

I assume Mossad are also taking hostages in a kosher restaurant as part of a elaborate plot to pin the blame on Islamic fundamentalists as part of the 'Zionist conspiracy'?

Not all Muslims are terrorists, but in the past 20 years, how many terror attacks have been by people claiming to be Muslims? And how many by people claiming to be Jews?

How many Muslims in the world? 23% of the world's population is Muslim. Current estimates conclude that the number of Muslims in the world is around 1.6 billion.

How many Jews? 0.2% of the world's population is Jewish. Current estimates conclude that the number of Jews in the world is around 13.9 million - 8.5 million in Israel.

Seriously, who presents the bigger threat to the safety and security of world populations?

vitaminC · 09/01/2015 13:56

Well, I have a solution!

I think it's time to bring back compulsory military service. It's only 15 years since it was abolished in France, and in that time the social unrest has increased exponentially. The main culprits are almost exclusively angry young men, with no job and no prospects.

A couple of years in the army would channel that excess aggressiveness and anger, would reduce unemployment and would be serving the whole of society.

Yes, they would have access to weapons, but they'd be under the orders of seriously scary senior officers and worked very hard physically.

No reason why it couldn't include both sexes, in fact. There are plenty of female soldiers, in fact my step-daughter is planning to apply to officer training school next year!

And for those young people who are more academically minded and less suited to military life, there are plenty of administrative jobs in the forces, which will provide them with valuable experience on their CV, as well as teaching them discipline and rigour in their work!

The more I think about this, the more it makes sense to me...

Dickorydockwhatthe · 09/01/2015 13:57

If our cultures and beliefs are so offensive then why choose to live here. People escape to west for freedom of speech if we do not have that here then where else do we escape to :-(

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 14:02

So what do we do to protect ourselves?

The Americans have a very strict border control system ( obviously excluding the Mexican border, but as an island we should not have that particular problem). The Americans have already said that the Paris killers were on their own no fly list and have just announced that the latest Jewish supermarket hostage taker is also on their list.

we need effective border controls like the American system. They'd probably even give us their software if we asked

We need to account for people leaving the country and record those when they re enter. We can then identify those we believe are leaving for military training / terrorism purposes and those who have returned after a significant absence should provide evidence of what they've been doing.

we should significantly increase counter terrorism resources and recruit more surveillance officers

We should remove the ban on phone tap evidence in court

We should cease incarceration without trial and bring suspects before the courts to be tried and sentenced. If we don't have enough evidence we should either let them go and surveillance them until we do

We should introduce a visa system so those who wish to travel and live in this country can be scrutinised for criminal records

We should make it clear that we expect people to report any suspicions of terrorism planning

We should hold to account those who enable and support terrorism

We should tell Saudi and Qatar that funding terrorism must stop

We should close any institution that we discover has indoctrinated people in extreme fundamentalism and supported terrorism or provided funding

We should apply the law without fear or favour.

I don't think that any of those measures are extreme when you consider that we are now facing assymmetric warfare on the streets of our capital cities and that innocent people are being slaughtered

These are not terrorists like the IRA with whom we eventually negotiated. These terrorists demands are that we give up our very country to a global caliphate. That's non-negotiable

There is no point in having nice big aircraft carriers and flashy warplanes when you have already admitted you cannot defend your own citizens in their own country The dats if pretending you need these military capabilities to prevent terrorists coming to the UK are over. That lie is dead.

Defence starts at home. This is a crisis and in a crisis the shutters need to come down Even if we have to turn this country into fortress Britain ( as we did in the 1940s) I believe this is the price we will have to pay to retain our right to live in our country without fear of extremist attack

Thereyouarepeter · 09/01/2015 14:07

A couple of things...

Firstly, if events of the last couple of days have proven anything it's that another terrorist attack in the UK in inevitable. The more we learn about these terrorists, their connections, their previous history, the fact it was known they have travelled overseas and been trained and have subsequently been allowed back into the country like THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of other Muslims across Europe. AND that at no point, despite what was already known, due to the law, security forces could not remove these individuals from society.

This raises the second issue, our current governments in their current guises cannot keep us safe. A few months ago I was mocked for saying that it was too late, that trained armies had already infiltrated themselves back into western civilisations and were simply waiting for the right moment to cause chaos.

The primary purpose of any government is to keep it's citizens safe. Euro governments actions over the last 24 months have failed to do this.

colacola · 09/01/2015 14:08

All known Religious extremists should be deported.

Why are they here spreading their hate, giving good law abiding Muslims a bad name.

aermingers · 09/01/2015 14:09

From what I've seen in the polls a Labour/SNP coalition with some Lib Dem influence is likely.

The SNP are heavily pro immigration. I expect that non-EU immigration will increase heavily under that kind of government.

GingerCuddleMonster · 09/01/2015 14:09

here here WetAugust I completely agree.

Our military have been training for years for this warfare, they knew it would come, a battle on our home streets, they are prepared for it. It won't be the UK's men in blue that will deal with these situations in the UK it will be boys in green. I fear an attack like this is in pipe line for the UK, our govermwnt must take action.

Thereyouarepeter · 09/01/2015 14:10

Potential third incident..according to sky.

msgrinch · 09/01/2015 14:10

sky news reporting news of another attack near the eiffel tower.

Lweji · 09/01/2015 14:10

All known Religious extremists should be deported.

Where? From their own country? And ALL religious extremists or just Muslim extremists?

sebsmummy1 · 09/01/2015 14:11

As I said, if we want to control our borders again then we need to leave Europe. Is this what people want?

Nancy66 · 09/01/2015 14:12

deported to where? many of them are British born.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 09/01/2015 14:15

The main culprits are almost exclusively angry young men, with no job and no prospects. YY they have a vacuum in lives.

Its all linked they are saying and there is another incident at tocadero.

msgrinch · 09/01/2015 14:15

I wish there was a solid solution to all of this but I just can't see what that can be. Sad

sebsmummy1 · 09/01/2015 14:15

Didn't we create Australia by taking our criminals and dumping then there. Really rather nice place it is too I've heard. Maybe people think we can just take the British citizens we are not keen on anymore and drop them off on a deserted island somewhere. Very realistic.

DoraGora · 09/01/2015 14:15

You can't have a proper discussion about staying in Europe and border control in the midst of two Parisian sieges. The terrorists want terror (and for the moment, they've got it.) But, there's going to be a reckoning, too, eventually. Al Qaeda in Yemen are being blamed for this. I predict drone strikes there soon.

WetAugust · 09/01/2015 14:16

Cola

It's easy to say like you did that all religious extremists should be deported

Then step back and think about it.

How do you define a religious extremist ?

The law says that a person is innocent until proven guilty

Where will you deport them too?

What if they are a British? The UN prohibits you from doing this and making a person state-less

what evidence of extremism will qualify this?

The appeals route against deportation would mean the case was dropped

Deportation is just a primitive gut reaction that is as unachievable as if us undesirable.

Lweji · 09/01/2015 14:16

The UK still controls their borders. They are not part of the Schengen Space.

Thereyouarepeter · 09/01/2015 14:16

I here Antarctica is nice this time of year

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 09/01/2015 14:17

s I said, if we want to control our borders again then we need to leave Europe. Is this what people want?

Yes.

Freedom of movement has plus points but the down sides out weigh those for me, before all this kicked off I was horrified at easy child trafficking across Europe with open borders..

sebsmummy1 · 09/01/2015 14:17

We could cut their hands off! Oh no, because that would make us as barbaric as the communities we are criticising. Hmmmm, looks like we've come full circle folks.
