The flight mh17 from Amsterdam to kuala lumpor with 295 people on board, it was a boing 777.
It was shot down with a buk ground to air missile.
They say there are no survivors.

It's awful.

surely that airspace is very closely monitored, they wil know the 'trademarks' of any weapons capable of that range

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 17/07/2014 19:17

Bit more conclusion jumping for you claig, rt now saying that putin flew over the area 40mins after the crash and ukraine were aiming for his plane.

nauticant · 17/07/2014 19:17

How can anyone have mistaken it? as carbedieum says you can watch commercial planes on flightradar24. Military ones mostly don't show.

If, and I stress if, the plane was brought down by a missile launched from a field somewhere by hothead separatists, I could well imagine them not taking the care to cross-reference limited information from a radar screen with sources from various websites.

'Bit more conclusion jumping for you claig, rt now saying that putin flew over the area 40mins after the crash and ukraine were aiming for his plane.'

This will be blamed on Russia in supplying what the Ukrainians call "nutjobs" and "terrorists" with sophisticated weapons that can shoot down airliners at 33,000 feet but are not supplying them with sophisticated weapons that can hold on to a city such as Slavyansk.

Veins · 17/07/2014 19:22

Posted on the rebel site before being removed. He said they'd shot down a cargo plane. Looks like the same pictures that are running on SKY

From the bbc

Pro seperatists tweet saying they had stolen this missle launcher. The tweet has since been deleted.

ChaircatMiaow · 17/07/2014 19:26

Just woke up and saw this. What an awful awful way to go. 80 children, I can't bear it.

CarbeDiem · 17/07/2014 19:28

This will be blamed on Russia
Along the lines of what I immediately thought for reasons not only limited to the supply of weapons.

So much speculation at the moment, hopefully the whole truth will out.

rpitchfo · 17/07/2014 19:32

Veins...

they have just showed a video of basically those exact same photos on sky.

CSIJanner · 17/07/2014 19:35

!warning!

DO NOT check twitter under the flights hash tag

The pictures are horrific and aren't censored. FFS Malaysia hasn't even woken up yet. Pictures are being uploaded and families don't even know yet

plinkyplonks · 17/07/2014 19:36

Not sure if posted yet but here is a video where it is claimed someone saw it being shot down:

There is a horrific TV first footage report in which bodies and fires are seen :( Plane looks to have fallen apart mid air with no chance of survivors.

It's now a case of who is going to take responsibility for murdering 300 innocent people :(

ParsingFlatly · 17/07/2014 19:38

rt now saying that putin flew over the area 40mins after the crash and ukraine were aiming for his plane.

See, this. ^^

To deflect from a very big crime, you have to invent a bigger one and get your fans whipped up.

I'm not saying the separatists did shoot the plane down. The accusation is enough. It's the rumour and accusation and counter-accusation that'll do for us all.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 17/07/2014 19:39

Anyone speak dutch?

Apparently (pprune link) this says locals are looting the crash site?!

claig · 17/07/2014 19:42

'Apparently (pprune link) this says locals are looting the crash site?!'

How do they know that? Are they there? Beware propaganda

JillJ72 · 17/07/2014 19:45

"FFS Malaysia hasn't even woken up yet."

This ^

Sad
BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 17/07/2014 19:45

God yes, not saying i believe it! Reminded me of Hillsborough headlines...

claig · 17/07/2014 19:45

2 Malaysian airliners crashed or brought down within a space of 4 months.

somewherewest · 17/07/2014 19:47

RT now saying that putin flew over the area 40mins after the crash and ukraine were aiming for his plane

[Eye roll]. The Ukrainians would have to be idiots to try to intentionally shoot Putin out of the sky. The Russians would wipe Ukraine off the map.

claig · 17/07/2014 19:48

somewherewest, the Ukrainians are not in control of anything. They don't make any decisions.

claig · 17/07/2014 19:52

If I was Putin, I wouldn't fly anywhere near the place. WW1 was started by an assassination.

GarlicJulyKit · 17/07/2014 19:56

You lot are WAY better than the news or Twitter/Facebook.

Poor Malaysia.

Naoko · 17/07/2014 20:01

I speak Dutch. The article linked by beyond does in fact claim that articles are being removed from the crash site by locals. It cites a CNN tweet as its sources which apparently in turn cites the Ukrainian Interior minister. The small picture shows a pile of passports, many of them Dutch, alledgedly removed from the site.

(I saw those passports on the BBC stream too and it made me so mad - they were showing people leafing through them. I could read bits of them without even pausing the stream. There were dozens of Dutch people on board this plane, exact number not yet released, relatives are being informed. Those passports should not be visible on TV right now and I expected better from the BBC. I'm watching Dutch news sources mainly and they are going absolutely nuts as you might expect.)

AndHarry · 17/07/2014 20:05

I was very concerned to read that the Ukrainian rebels had got the flight recorders and were going to send them to Russia for analysis. Surely that would be a huge cover-up?

waitingforgodot · 17/07/2014 20:10

Is it just a massive coincidence that its Malaysian airlines again or is there something going on with Malaysia that I don't know about?
It's all just really sad.

Ilovenewts · 17/07/2014 20:10

BBC have published some tweets that give graphic descriptions of the bodies. I'm quite shocked that the BBC would do that really.

Those poor people. I'm upset by this more than a lot of other disasters on the news. I think it's because these people weren't even near a war zone they were just trying to go home/on holiday and the plane they were on was ...well possibly shot down.
