Just heard on the news that Steve Irwin "The Crocodile Hunter" has died in a diving accident. He was stung through the heart by a stingray.

His poor family.

Never posted before but have to say how very very sad me amd and my whole family are after the death of Steve Irwin. I was SO shocked when I heard the news, and what suprised me the most was that I cried inconsolably, it's not like I met him even (I wish we had), but he came into our lounge almost every day on the television, and you 'felt' like you knew him. His enthusiasm was infectious and you also 'took in' what he was telling you, and you were 'interested', not bored by the things he knew. I am still upset today several days later?? To think he is never coming back to amaze us with something else he's doing. He was the best 'family' viewing on TV. Our families sympathy and love go out to Terri, Bindi & Bob and also all his friends and family, we will miss him dearly, no one else will fill his shoes. RIP Steve, If there is 'another place' I hope we get to see you there xx

It's very sad. My kids loved his programmes because they brought an exciting dimension to nature programmes! I expect he knew the danger he was putting himself in - my thoughts are with his family.

When I was told, it was like I went into shock for a few moments. I couldn't speak. He will be greatly missed by many people i'm sure. He seemed such a genuine person.

very

eidsvold · 08/09/2006 07:29

there will be a private family funeral - for family and close friends and then a memorial service for the public a week or so later... no state funeral.

eidsvold · 11/09/2006 00:49

private funeral and burial - permission was granted for him to be buried at Australia Zoo.

bet that what he would have wanted though.

tortoisesdonotwearshoes · 13/09/2006 17:49

I find the news here unbelieveably sad.Do people really believe the sting ray was to blame?

sugarfree · 13/09/2006 17:53

Surely fans of Steve Irwin wouldn't be into animal cruelty.
Watch out for a crop of "the stingray barb that killed Steve Irwin" for sale on ebay.
