Do we know when the judge will reach a decision?

GoshAnneGorilla · 21/07/2014 23:56

I have read somewhere that the judge and the two assessors may take up to a month to reach a verdict.

As well as the evidence presented in court, they also have written reports from both the state and defence to consider.

HibiscusIsland · 22/07/2014 00:04

Thank you

emotionsecho · 29/07/2014 00:21

Just checking in, I missed the trial days after OP had been assessed, but managed to pick up the gist of what happened from this thread thank you.

So 7th and 8th August are the days we hear a summation of the Prosecution and Defence case, then a month or so before the verdict.

I did read somewhere that nothing much has been said in Court re the other charges he faces in respect of the ammunition, etc., and that these charges alone usually elicit a custodial sentence. Do you think neither side has really pushed on these charges because they are a 'done deal' so to speak?

The 7th & 8th should be very interesting, I am intrigued by how each side will set out their case.

There is a chance due to family circumstances I may not be able to catch the proceedings in August so I shall rely on you lovely ladies to keep me informed.

emotionsecho · 06/08/2014 22:51

Are they definitely going back to court tomorrow?

GoshAnneGorilla · 07/08/2014 02:06

Barry Bateman (SA journo) on twitter says yes.

Also Carl Pistorius (OP's brother), has been in a very bad car accident, multiple fractures, and still in ICU :twitter.com/karynmaughan/status/497092651414339584

Hello, sneaking in on this thread right at the end of the trial - I was lurking before but only registered during the 'break'. So thank you to all of you who contributed information, it has been an interesting few threads.

I was a bit shocked when I saw another Pistorius crisis rolling along the bottom of Sky news...

According to -

www.independent.co.uk/news/people/oscar-pistorius-brother-carl-in-intensive-care-after-headon-car-crash-9644241.html

^''The crash is understood to have occurred close to Modimolle in the Limpopo province when a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction swerved and collided with his car on the N1.

He sustained fractures to his right forearm, leg and left foot, as well as a hip injury and lacerations to his liver and heart, according to the reports. Carl was returning from a business trip when the incident took place.

His uncle Arnold Pistorius said in a statement that Carl had been badly hurt, but “is out of danger”.''^

I feel I have forgotten what I learned about the case before the pysch assessment, not all of it but quite a lot. Does anyone know if the closing arguments in court will be full reading aloud of written arguments submitted to the judge, or just a summary or questions?

member · 07/08/2014 04:38

Don't know - I'm thinking reading out just because 2 days have been pencilled in.

Feel sorry for Aimee Pistorius - she's under immense stress.

temporaryusername · 07/08/2014 04:50

Yes, Aimee must feel torn on whether she should be in the court or the ICU. She must have had a moment where she wondered if she would lose one brother and have the other in prison.

According to BBC News today in Court will be Gerrie Nel's summing up.

Barry Steenkamp has come to court for the first time. Poor bloke.

OneStepCloser · 07/08/2014 08:03

Ah is it starting back today? Oki will try to catch up....

member · 07/08/2014 08:29

OP's father Henke also in court for first time.

Roussette · 07/08/2014 08:32

Live feed started and Nel presenting the State's case.

OP posts:
LookingThroughTheFog · 07/08/2014 08:32

Nel is starting out with the double defence; I wasn't in my right mind, but if I was in my right mind, I acted in self defence.

Nerf · 07/08/2014 08:57

Nel said there were only two people in the house: it's, like Frank never existed. Weird analogy about batons and nice attempt to show dishonesty - judge masipa is sharp

ZuluInJozi · 07/08/2014 08:57

I'm booking a place

Btw, who is the guy on captain Mangena's left in a red polkadot tie?

member · 07/08/2014 09:00

Isn't it Webber? OP's lawyer (who then has advocates Oldwage & Roux acting on his behalf in court).

member · 07/08/2014 09:07

So far have heard Nel querying why defence didn't play a recording of OP screaming but had a neighbour impersonating screams - can only draw conclusion because recording wouldn't advance defence's case.

Highlighting OP's testimony which proves he intended to fire at the door - not that he was startled and the gun went off accidentally.

member · 07/08/2014 09:10

Making point OP never said it was an accident that gun went off before taking stand. That there was a thought process that intruder was coming out of the toilet not a startle response.

Roussette · 07/08/2014 09:13

arghhh bloody work calls! And due some more shortly. I wanted to listen to Nel and his summing up.

OP posts:
member · 07/08/2014 09:19

The tweets under the ENCA live feed are a pretty good summing up tbh - Nel isn't being as succinct as he could be imo.

Roussette · 07/08/2014 09:24

have found Enca's live feed but no tweets alongside... oh well!

Under the screen showing court?
