As an aside, lovely looking house. Why it is relevant that they had "help from a nanny and a maid",I'm not sure.

I feel so bad for the big Sister especially, poor kid.

The three children had spinal muscular atrophy. I can't imagine what their lives must have been like and what stress she must have been under. Having one child who you will have to watch suffer terribly then die is bad enough, having three is unimaginable. "Spinal muscular atrophy is a genetic disease that causes muscle weakness and progressive loss of movement.
It occurs due to deterioration in the nerve cells connecting the brain and spinal cord to the body's muscles.
As the link between the nerves and muscles breaks down, the muscles become progressively weaker and shrink.
However, mental abilities remain unaffected.
The condition is usually caused by a genetic error which is inherited from both of the child's parents.
In children with the more severe forms of the illness, fatal respiratory problems usually develop during childhood meaning they never reach their teens.
Many also develop problems with swallowing.
There is no cure and treatment involves providing tube-feeding and help with breathing" NHS online.

How sad for them all

Those poor little children I hope whatever happened, that they are at peace. I'll be thinking of them, and counting my blessings

I was baffled by the neighbour's comment that this surprising because it was a nice low crime area. How deluded would you have to be to think that high social status could protect you from such a horrible personal tragedy? I guess people do say silly things if you stick a microphone in front of them when they're in shock.

The father and eldest daughter were abroad and are flying back today after the news

Wonder how much help they got from the Child Disability Team?
I'm in a neighbouring county, have 3 disabled kids and get 6 hours' a week help, which I have to pay for.

I can completely understand how this happened.

Feel dreadful for the remaining members of the family. So very sad.

Very sad. What stress must that poor woman have been under caring for 3 children with a life limiting condition.

Terrible tragedy for all involved and I for one will not be judging the poor woman. May her children rest in peace and may she also find peace.

Grabagran - what is the source for that information? I haven't seen the specifics reported. However whatever their condition it's clear it was life limiting and that being so it's obvious what a tragic position this poor woman appears to have been in.

I feel so sorry for the family. I only have one SN child and her disability will not kill her. I just can't imagine the strain on the family with 3 , all of them with life limiting illnesses.

I had one child with a disability. I understand how distressing it can be and how alienated she must have felt with three!! Poor woman.

Yes poor children too. But they were all failed. There should have been appropriate support put in place for all kids and she clearly wasn't supported enough.

I knew a boy who died from that condition at a very young age. The parents had almost round the clock support although his was the most severe type.

If a child has it a later sibling has 25% chance of having it too. It is not hard to imagine 3/4 siblings being affected.

The children are mentally normal infact I have heard are sometimes known to be very bright. I know my friends boy loved anything visual and communicated very well through facial expressions.

I don't think a nanny and a maid was really the type of support this woman needed. Very very sad.

Manic - just try for a minute then, just try thinking how desperate you might feel seeing your child suffer and knowing it was going to get worse - or even more terribly possibly - see them well and doing thing and know that all that lay in store was them losing that physical capacity and eventually dying. Just try and I think you will be able to see what we see.

Granted my experience is of myself being suicidal rather than harming the kids but my situation is different. I can still see how it happened, though.

I'm sure neighbours can't see when we're not coping either.

Well, I watched my daughter die. We thought she might make it. She did not.

I judge this woman in no way. My god, what a shitty shite world, for such a fate to befall one person.

I'm another one not judging.
