I can't do links but reading back Dr Stipps transcript is interesting.

I think the Mr Baba evidence was shown to be as he remembered it
His remembering of order of calls was wrong but he didn't try to change or waiver
It was as he remembered it.

There feels something wrong in the calling of Stander, the bags tape rope, Mr Baba's evidence of OP saying everything was fine but it clearly wasn't.

Perhaps OP panicked and thought of trying to sort things/himself/events out clearly before involving the press, police, media.
That doesn't necessarily mean there was anything untoward. Maybe he wanted a few minutes to get a breath.
He knew she was dead I'd imagine and perhaps wanted a minute before everything changed and was real?

Still the bags tape rope is sooooo odd. Might be nothing other than panic

FreeLikeABird · 20/04/2014 13:46

Ronald the neighbour with all the lights on who I believe is one of OP direct next door neighbours has not been in the witness box yet, the state didn't use oscars direct next door neighbours who live on each side of his house. I am wondering if Mr Roux is going to call at least one of them, I believe the house that had all the lights on is the neighbour who lives on the left (if facing oscars house) there bedroom actually overlooks where OP bathroom/toilet is.

Maybe the state didn't use them because what they heard does not fit with the States version, I'm sure we will find out.

Nerf · 20/04/2014 13:58

I got really confused because Reeva called OP baba as well. Apparently in Afrikaans it means baby though.

RonaldMcDonald · 20/04/2014 14:15

Maybe this is useful...but I feel that if I were OP or his team that I would have these guys front and centre

neighbours

RonaldMcDonald · 20/04/2014 14:18

lol

Baba is father or daddy maybe even man in Zulu

Nerf · 20/04/2014 14:28

Thank you

FreeLikeABird · 20/04/2014 14:35

Ronald - thanks for the link, they are the neighbours I am referring to, so they were on the States witness list, as the state did not call them, it was said that Mr Roux and his team were then allowed to go through the list and talk to any witnesses the state did not use, does this mean Mr Roux can now call these people to the stand? Do we think he will? If he doesn't I will wonder why.

homebythesea · 20/04/2014 14:39

The nearer neighbours' written statements were brought into play by Roux right at the end if his questioning OO giving evidence in chief. roux asked OP to confirm who various people were (eg next door neighbour, across the road) and asked something along the lines of "did they hear any screaming as per their statements?" To which the answer was No My Lady. So that gets that evidence in the record for the judge to consider. Importantly Nel in cross examination made no reference to these nearer neighbours as obviously it doesn't suit him

Here shows the neighbours houses, if the picture upload works.

I keep going back to that twitter feed. Alex Crawford is following her - why , if it's not credible. And if she has evidence that Reeva was unstable or violent why not be a character witness or at least say it and own it? I find it incredible that the snide nasty comments and allegations can be left up. Fair enough to support your friend (if she knows him) but why such hatred?

MajesticWhine · 20/04/2014 16:02

Alex Crawford is noticeably biased towards the Pistorius family - just reflects how much the family are befriending the media in my opinion, so her following the twitter feed is no particular recommendation.

Nerf · 20/04/2014 17:33

Oh that's interesting. I thought she was anti!

RonaldMcDonald · 20/04/2014 17:36

There is an actual paraphilia that I might postulate that this woman is suffering from. Perhaps there is also some element of them being narcissistic enablers?

Anyway I personally don't think that it is wise to enable her/them in their illness.
I think that Alex Crawford is wrong in following someone who feels able to say such dreadful things. I wonder how she would feel if it were her daughter or herself being spoken about in such a cruel and bilious fashion.

Nerf · 20/04/2014 17:38

Tonal I totally agree. I think less of someone in the media as a reporter following such vitriolic stuff.

emotionsecho · 20/04/2014 17:42

Just caught up with the thread, thought we'd tipped into an alternative dimension with some of the posts - very odd.

Regarding us all speculating, the majority of the posters over all four threads have only speculated or drawn conclusions from the evidence they have heard given at the trial. I think that is perfectly acceptable and posters have backed up their opinions on the evidence and debated sensibly with other posters with differing opinions and asked for and received clarification of certain points. This has made these threads balanced, interesting and a welcome forum for intelligent discussion on a tragic, apalling event, I hope it stays that way I'm not keen on the veering into wierdness - all that flowery, fallen Greek hero stuff leaves me cold.

On the subject of the phone calls to security/Pieter Baba I thought OP had dialled the number and then quickly cut it off to phone Mr Stander instead which is why Pieter Baba then called him back?

On balance to date I think the Prosecution's case and witnesses have been more convincing than the Defence's so far, but there are more Defence witnesses to come. I was surprised by a SA legal expert's comment that the Defence normally put their best witnesses on first, so if the calibre if their witnesses can be judged by Mr Dixon I think they are in for a torrid time.

I can't stop thinking about poor Reeva though, so awful, you can see the pain etched on her mother's face. I do think that Mr. Nel is doing a very good job of not letting people forget that Reeva is the centre of this tragedy and he is fighting damned hard to achieve justice for her.

emotionsecho · 20/04/2014 17:50

Agree too, Ronald and Nerf, I have also felt Alex Crawford has recently shown a distinct bias to OP, deliberately downplaying evidence other commentators have highlighted as being damaging.

I don't follow Twitter so have no idea of the stuff being said by that particular Twitterer and judging by what people have said about it on here I have no desire too, but agree it is odd that Alex Crawford would follow it.

UnderthePalms · 20/04/2014 18:00

I had a horrible thought in the middle of the night that Roger Dixon might do something silly as he has been so humiliated in front of the whole world.

UnderthePalms · 20/04/2014 18:01

I know it's his own fault, but he should never have been allowed to perform that role, now or in the past for the state

UnderthePalms · 20/04/2014 18:04

He said on facebook that his credibility, integrity and professional reputation is destroyed

Hillwalker · 20/04/2014 18:09

He said that tongue in cheek and explained afterwards that it was a joke. He seemed to have a gsoh about the whole thing.

UnderthePalms · 20/04/2014 18:19

Oh that's good

RonaldMcDonald · 20/04/2014 18:32

Alex Crawford seems to be utterly taken with Pistorius and his family to the extent that sometimes I didn't feel she fully reported the events that were happening in the court room
Glad to hear others have felt the same way to some extent
I don't know if OP's 'suffering' is the catalyst of if she was perhaps always a huge fan or if she is flattered by the attention his family give her

Madcatgirl · 20/04/2014 18:37

A revent twitter post suggests that June Steenkamp doesn't even care if OP goes to jail or not, she has been left utterly broke. Which is quite interesting and suggests that Reeva was an income stream for her as I'd seen hinted at in other places.

emotionsecho · 20/04/2014 18:37

Mr Dixon has said he is looking for work in the private sector I'm not too sure that his appearance las week will have helped his cause.

I do wonder though as he worked for the SAP for 18 years, presumably in their Forensic Service, he would have given "expert" testimony before and if so he would have known that he couldn't give testimony on areas outside his expertise so why on earth did he?
