Here you go.

OP posts:
HowAboutNo · 16/04/2014 22:09

Friend came round tonight, she hasn't been watching the trial closely, but knows his story. She just said "it's just bullshit isn't it? Not plausible" and it reminds me that, generally speaking, it does sound like bullshit if you discount SA violence, etc etc

also reminded me that I have been following this trial far too closely! Gotta love maternity leave.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/04/2014 22:13

"Are you an expert in blood spatter analysis?"

"I have received no training in blood spatter analysis, my lady". but I'll give you my thoughts anyway

AmIthatSpringy · 16/04/2014 22:15

Hillwalker, at least you're honest. As for the G/F, other than a Sun story, not sure anyone has seen any proof of that.

He was in Mozambique before Christmas, but he hasn't been under house arrest.

And lets face it, he hasn't really been carrying on "as normal" like some think

And for any thinking bail was wrong - did he fleee? has he turned up for court? Well, looks like bail wasn't so wrong after all

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/04/2014 22:17

"What did you use to measure light levels?"

"My eyes"

You couldn't make this stuff up. It's like a bety, very bad taste Jetemy Beadle spoof

Hope OP didn't pay too much for that report

HowAboutNo · 16/04/2014 22:19

Gobbolino I shouldn't Grin but it just was a face-palm afternoon

I did want to give him a hug and say "never mind, pal"

LouiseBrooks · 16/04/2014 22:21

Hillwalker I think if convicted he will go to jail pending an appeal. The "girlfriend" is not proven by the way, it may just be tabloid talk.

StackALee personally I think I'd rather my daughter's boyfriend (if she had one) killed her in a panic than deliberately but since this is hypothetical for me, maybe it doesn't really matter to them as long as they know one way or the other. She's still dead.

Oh and yes, I do see the irony of Mr Dixon calling the police unprofessional (although they undoubtedly are hopeless) when apparently he didn't even bother to read the PM report My big query is, what the hell is Oscar paying these people for?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/04/2014 22:21

"Oh, and I'm not an expert on light levels anyway".

well, why the fuck are you here, shouts nearly every lawyer watching. Bar OP's defence team

I've had to keep reminding myself that this is an awful case and someone has died tragically as I just want to laugh hysterically watching his evidence. I actually really admire Gerrie Nel for not getting the most massive fit of the giggles

emotionsecho · 16/04/2014 22:22

After reading free's link I hope the other mega-bucks experts hold up better than Mr Dixon.

Maybe Mr. Dixon is the epitome of the problems within the SA police seeing as he was their expert for 18 years.

FreeLikeABird · 16/04/2014 22:23

Gobbo Grin I shouldn't laugh but you writing these quotes out on here has made me giggle, honestly it's a joke wtf was that man doing in the witness box, if he is the best OP and his well paid team can come up with, then quite frankly there really is no hope.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/04/2014 22:25

What the fuck's a forensic geologist anyway?

That even sounds made up

LouiseBrooks · 16/04/2014 22:25

Gobbolino well I bet Oscar's not laughing. No wonder he keeps putting his head in his hands.

That article does say that forensics don't feature a lot in SA as there "aren't the resources". That much, at least, is patently obvious.

MILdesperandum · 16/04/2014 22:27

Is it possible that Dixon was called as no other "experts" accord with the defence?

LineRunner · 16/04/2014 22:37

Geology is my thing. Soil, dirt, layering, which particle underlies the other ....

FreeLikeABird · 16/04/2014 22:38

Forensic geology is the study of evidence relating to minerals, oil, petroleum, and other materials found in the Earth, used to answer questions raised by the legal system.

FreeLikeABird · 16/04/2014 22:39

I googled Smile

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/04/2014 22:40

MIL - I suppose. But generally you question your expert before they give evidence - to check their evidence will stand being tested

Also, you would want to be absolutely sure that your expert's evidence had a very sound basis if you couldn't find any other experts who corroborated your position as - if not -it might be because your expert is a complete joker. As ably demonstrated today

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/04/2014 22:42

The only geologists I've ever come across are in the oil industry. Not that that is indicative of course as I am not an expert

Anyway, we all know now that he's not an expert in blood spatter or light readings Confused

YNK · 16/04/2014 22:43

I must admit to laughing myself tonight, but watching it today I was mortified!
I was cringing and holding my head in my hands like Oscar!
Nel appeared very relaxed, like he hadn't even got out of first gear.

CharlieSierra · 16/04/2014 22:48

It seems the tactics Nel uses to cross examine people gets those results. whether they know something or not. I believe he could get his mother to say she wasn't his mother even if she was holding a DNA certificate in her hand that proved it. He has mastered the art of arguing but I wonder if he is really getting to the truth of the case. After Mr. Dixon had his time on the stand I would say it shows OP isn't the only one capable of being totally turned up side down by him

YY

Some people seem to think he's really rather clever, but the truth is what's required and I don't believe this is the way to get there.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/04/2014 22:50

OMG - just popped to the loo and came back to find DH convulsed and unable to speak.

He's been listening to the bit about googling sounds on the Internet, in my absence

I can only conclude that the "expert" witness decided that O OP is guilty and has gone rogue in the most spectacular fashion

But seriously - OP's lawyers and Barry Roux have some serious explanation to do to OP. A trainer sucky or could ferret out that this guy was a total joker when prepping him for trial - that's if his ludicrous report hadn't given him away in the first instance

I'm no OP fan but this is not fair

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/04/2014 22:52

charlie - these "scientific" tests are anything but.

Honestly, you do not need Gerrie Nel to point that out.

Plus, Nel wasn't asking him to give evidence on ops spatter etc, it was the blinking defence!

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 16/04/2014 22:53

"Trainer sucky"?!?!

I meant "trainee solicitor", ahem!

LineRunner · 16/04/2014 22:55

The whole thing is a nonsense as long as the defendant cannot explain what the witnesses heard without, as Gobbolin says, running a second defence.

emotionsecho · 16/04/2014 22:56

Thing is though if Mr Dixon has been used as an expert by the State during his 18 years working for them then he would be well aware of how to deliver "expert" testimony, which begs the question why isn't he?

CharlieSierra · 16/04/2014 23:03

I get that Gobbolin and when they came up with a forensic geologist I thought WTF - but it isn't funny, it's tragic. Justice is at stake and the incompetence and grandstanding is turning the whole thing into a farce.
