OP posts:

Amethyst thank you. The violence over in SA just sounds so alien to us in UK that I was just wondering how it all worked. And also then, OP would have known that he would be facing criminal proceedings if he shot through that door, whoever he thought was behind it. Interesting.

AmIthatSpringy · 12/04/2014 13:57

bluebayou. What do you mean about another OJ Simpson. Someone mentioned that before but they explained it as the only other televised trial they had seen.

I didn't follow OJ trial so am interested in what you think are the parallels between the cases.

Bonnielangbird · 12/04/2014 14:04

Michelle Burger said she heard a man shouting for help three times before the shots as well, but why would OP should for help if he was attacking Reeva? Expect that's been covered already on here but please can someone explain as I missed it?

Aventurine · 12/04/2014 14:43

happy I believe the judge has to decide that Gerrie Nel proved he murdered her beyond reasonable doubt.

Aventurine · 12/04/2014 14:45

Bonnie The supposed shots might have been the door being bashed with the cricket bat

Bonnielangbird · 12/04/2014 15:00

She says she heard a woman's screams just before that though -

www.theguardian.com/world/2014/mar/03/oscar-pistorius-michelle-burger-paralympian-reeva-steenkamp-murder-trial

Surely she would have heard the gunshots too along with the screaming, then the shouting for help, then the noise of the cricket bat. The order of what she heard doesn't make sense to me.

I presume OP hasn't been asked to scream because it might add weight to the defence case?

SauceForTheGander · 12/04/2014 15:05

ballsballsballs I agree it's the behaviour of a man with a guilty conscience but rather than take the punishment they behave like the victim. Violence is childish as is the refusal to accept responsibility.

I'm sorry you witnessed that - grim. Flowers

There is a script abusive people follow and the blame shifting is part of it - "your behaviour wound me up so I had no control"

I'm seeing this case in the wider context of domestic violence and emotional abuse in relationships. It's far far more common than we realise. Because of it's frequency we've become inured to it.

A soldier is killed on the streets of London and we all know his name and the horrendous circumstances. Rightly so.

A woman is killed every week through male violence. Rarely reported. we certainly don't learn names of the victims excpet in celebrity cases. It is even more dangerous for women in South Africa than in UK where levels of DV are higher. These abusers are hiding in plane sight and we're falling to recognise the red flags.

SauceForTheGander · 12/04/2014 15:06

Plain sight - !

And other typos Blush - apologies

StampyIsMyBoyfriend · 12/04/2014 15:16

For some... I think the OJ Simpson parallels are a high profile, wealthy male... as guilty as hell... but with enough money to pay the best lawyers, will get off.

FreeLikeABird · 12/04/2014 15:39

I have just be looking at twitter after coming across a newspaper article online of OP past girlsfriends, there is a girl called Jenna edkins he dated in 2008, if you look her up on twitter she has tweeted about OP.

Here are tweets she posted -

@JennaEdkins: People must stop jumping on the bandwagon with such hurtful allegations. Os is the loving , amazing inspirational person we know him to be..

@JennaEdkins: You have all my familys love and support #loveandsupportoscar

@JennaEdkins: You have all my familys love and support #loveandsupportoscar

@JennaEdkins: I would just like to say , I have dated Oscar on off for 5 YEARS, NOT ONCE has he EVER lifted a finger to me , made me fear for my life..

Aventurine · 12/04/2014 15:43

Bonnie. I've listened to the Michelle B thing and I see what you mean. Not sure what to think now.

SauceForTheGander · 12/04/2014 15:44

Wonder why she's not been called as a witness if she's dated him for so long and is such a reliable character witness?

AmIthatSpringy · 12/04/2014 15:47

Thanks Stampy, I'm still a bit confused. If he is as guilty as hell, he won't get off, will he?

Did anyone/everyone believe OJ Simpson was not guilty? Was it a huge surprise to everyone?

Actually I might go and google it Smile

AmIthatSpringy · 12/04/2014 15:49

Sauce Maybe she has. The defence haven't published a list of their witnesses.

SauceForTheGander · 12/04/2014 15:49

Oh interesting. I hadn't realised that Iam

SauceForTheGander · 12/04/2014 15:50

AmI

I meant - sorry

!

AmIthatSpringy · 12/04/2014 15:56

I remember those tweets from Jenna Edkins, and also remember some pretty nasty responses to them from Samantha Taylor's sister, which she eventually deleted.

I would have been interested to hear from his first long term g/f, who according to his autobiography was the love of his life. It would have been interesting to hear what she had to say about him. She has kept very quiet in the media though.

FreeLikeABird · 12/04/2014 15:57

Am wondering if she is on there list, there are a few other girls one childhood sweetheart Vicky miles I wonder if any of these ex girlfriends have been called. Be interesting to see.

FreeLikeABird · 12/04/2014 15:59

Doesn't surprise me about Samantha Taylor or her family being involved, she seems very bitter.

AmIthatSpringy · 12/04/2014 16:01

Yes Free it was Vicky Myles I was talking about.

I think Samantha Taylor's sister is a wee bit older than her, so is very protective of her.

Roussette · 12/04/2014 16:04

I hope to god the shouting of OP before the gunshots heard by Burger weren't him shouting to fabricate his story i.e. let's pretend this is a burglar, let's shout for help so anyone who's around can hear, now I can shoot and my story is covered

StampyIsMyBoyfriend · 12/04/2014 17:02

Jenna Edkins 'dated' on & off, for 5yrs!?

Think she's giving herself a bit too much credit there, perhaps hoping to become his fuckbuddy again afterwards?

I doubt she would see much of the real OP, in those on & off 'dates'.

GoshAnneGorilla · 12/04/2014 17:21

Stampy - she was mentioned as a girlfriend in his autobiography, so they did definitely have a relationship with each other, as opposed to a few dates here and there.

catinbootz · 12/04/2014 17:22

Do we know what the other incident is which OP referred to -when Reeve had been hiding in a previous situation and then found it hard to speak afterwards?

AmIthatSpringy · 12/04/2014 17:23

cat it was a letter to a newspaper - I'll see if I can find a link
