Not sure if this has been linked already but is another possibility

"potential Maldives sighting of plane apologies if this has already been linked."

On its way toDiego Garcia?

FrontierPsychiatrist · 18/03/2014 13:34

@MayorGrinch,

I just came on to link to the same article.

Fire on board theory proposed

Occam's Razor and all that.

(The tinfoil hat has been safely stored away. For now...)

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/03/2014 13:36

Was anybody able to see my link? I am perfctly willing to admit it might be nothing, but I'm not sure the link even worked...

Dinosaursareextinct · 18/03/2014 13:37

Merry - yes, the valve thing is an alternative theory re the Silkair crash, and there is in fact a documentary on Youtube about this. Personally I think the suicide argument is more likely there, and the fact that a US jury held the valve manufacturer responsible doesn't definitively establish where the fault lay. Apparently the pilot in that case was heavily in debt and had just taken out a life insurance policy, which came into effect on the day of the crash. The plane also performed stunts eg rolling over a few times) and managed to land in the middle of a river (rather than the land all around), and the pilot was also a stunt pilot.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 18/03/2014 13:41

Didn't work for me I'm afraid, Psammead.

Virtualhaggling · 18/03/2014 13:42

Merkin, the article you linked to www.haveeru.com.mv/news/54062 is extremely interesting. I wonder why the sighting is being ignored by MA? Confused
Maldives are a stone throw away from DG.

m0nkeynuts · 18/03/2014 13:42

PsammeadPaintedTheLion I just get 'Waiting for map...' on the link, but nothing ever loads. Are you able to post a screenshot?

Etainagain · 18/03/2014 13:42

Psammead the link was just general and I couldn't see what you are looking at. Could you try to link the image again? Thanks

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/03/2014 13:43

Crap. Hang on I screenshotted it

Ahh ok, it does seem it can handle large aircraft like 747's. Not sure if 777's require any additional runway strength/ length.

Etainagain · 18/03/2014 13:43

Psammead I did manage to load the link, but just got vast sea of black ripples.

Jjuice · 18/03/2014 13:44

Psamm it took a while to open the tomnod map and I had to search for your particular map square.
I have seen a few things that look similar to this it could be ship or sea trash.

I would tag it anyway as "other".

I have searched way too much land and sea. It becomes addictive. You think just one more square and I might find something...just one more square.
Maybe it should be re-named chocolate...

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/03/2014 13:44

Lol. You get to see all my tabs, lucky I wasn't looking at anything too recriminating Grin

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/03/2014 13:45

Ah ok jjuice. I wasn't sure it was worth tagging, I'm not sure exactly what it is that is worth tagging iyswim.

Virtualhaggling · 18/03/2014 13:47

AngryFeet, yes that theory is v interesting and was discussed a fe pages back.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/03/2014 13:47

Have deleted tag and redone it as 'other'.

Etainagain · 18/03/2014 13:50

Psamm think that is worth tagging.

Virtualhaggling · 18/03/2014 13:50

Any thoughts on the Maldives sightings?

Etainagain · 18/03/2014 13:54

Virtual Maldives sightings very interesting. Malaysian newspaper report says that 'the airport runway of Diego Garcia is among the top five locations the investigative team discovered on the simulator programme in Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah’s residence'

KaleCrochet · 18/03/2014 13:54

Ooooh interesting about that possible Maldives sighting. Maybe, if the piggybacking on flight SQ68 is correct, as it crossed the west side of India, instead of turning northwards towards the 'Stans, it turned southwards into the Arabian Sea. Down over the Maldives towards Diego Garcia. Hmm but why would they fly over populated areas like the Maldives, when they could approach by an open sea route. Prob a red herring, but interesting to keep an eye on reports I think.

JonathanGirl · 18/03/2014 13:55

Maldives sighting sounds plausible...but it is absolutely nowhere near the two arcs that they think the plane should be in because of the satellite data.

So either it was nowhere near the Maldives or the satellite data is wrong/has been misinterpreted.

BlackStiltonBoots · 18/03/2014 13:56

Maldives sighting is interesting.

What does everyone think about Diego Garcia? Would they shoot it down?

Jjuice · 18/03/2014 13:56

Looking at the front page of Tomnod at things other people have tagged is very interesting there is one in the jungle on Andaman Isles which is a very very clear shiny aeroplane.
It has to be a flying plane though as there is no path through the trees to it and it is in one entire piece. 463 people have agreed that it is plane wreckage though. I feel very sorry for the people with the job of ploughing through tagged things!

Virtualhaggling · 18/03/2014 13:57

Wow, Etainagain how odd!!! Obviously this is pure speculation but what possible motive could the pilot have to key to DG? Hmm.
