The appeal after the overturned convictions. I hope this can all be brought to a close now.

cannabis is illegal and loads of people smoke it here, same as anywhere. Perugian police used to its large student population am guessing wouldn't find a bunch of young people having a spliff or 2 in the evening that worthy of major investigation when faced with a murder case. And yes re lawyers here. I can't think of 1 Italian friend who hasn't referred at some point in discussion with me to "il mio avvocato" in the same way as I might refer to "my gynecologist".
Saw an interview on Italian news yesterday with Sollecito. One of the first things he said when asked why he though the judiciary didnt believe him he answered with "in my case...in the case of me- Raffaele Sollecito I really don't understand". Which sounded very much like he is distancing himself from the case of AK now.

The Massei report is available in its entirety rather than as a "summary" on a biased website if anyone cba to plough through it.

(have lost track of which MK website is pro and which is contra, but I would be guessing the word "summary" means = missing out the bits the summariser doesn't agree with whether it's a pro or con site.)

DrankSangriaInThePark · 04/02/2014 08:06

That's interesting Gio, Dp insists on watching Canale 5 news so I didn't see that.

Bananagio · 04/02/2014 08:22

I saw it this morning on catch up Sangria as DP insists on LA7 TG so I didnt see it at the time. Look at us being all subservient to our Italian DP's choice of news Wink. You can see it here on Rai

DrankSangriaInThePark · 04/02/2014 08:43

Thanks, will go looky.

Nancy66 · 04/02/2014 08:58

there is no confirmed CCTV of anybody.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 04/02/2014 09:29

The CCTV footage I've seen and which is widely reported as being Meredith going towards home, and then a while later RG going in the same direction and then afterwards going back in the same direction, could frankly be me for how clear it is.

As n 7 Via della Pergola has no CCTV over its front door or windows, and this nearest "useful" one is a few metres (at least) away on the main road, even if the police enhancement techniques have shown beyond any doubt it is RG, he is still not on CCTV entering the property.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/02/2014 09:48

Well he wouldn't be - he went round the back, broke a window & got in there!

DrankSangriaInThePark · 04/02/2014 10:10

Exactly. So the relevance of the CCTV footage cited ad infinitum by the Innocentistas counts for what, exactly?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/02/2014 10:19

That RG was seen to be in the vicinity & the other 2 weren't?

Slightly relevant (even if not conclusive due to poor images?)

The image of MK arriving home was at first seized on by the police, with great delight, as actually being AK arriving for her sex game.

Imagine their disappointment.

Nancy66 · 04/02/2014 10:27

Did Meredith have a car? Not sure why she'd be in an underground car park if she didn't....

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/02/2014 10:36

She wasn't in the car park - it's across the street & its CCTV also covered the cottage

Nancy66 · 04/02/2014 11:19

yes, across the street from the car park. Doesn't show the cottage though. it's ludicrous that it was ever presented as evidence. You can't tell if it's a man or woman even. All you can see is the haziest of images of someone in a light coloured top.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 04/02/2014 16:03

Nancy, it wasn't in the original trial evidence, was it?

Nancy66 · 04/02/2014 16:24

it was shown in court as 'possibly' being Meredith at the original trial.

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 04/02/2014 18:12

Thanks.

aquashiv · 05/02/2014 00:53

Honestly thought she acted guilty esp b when she b framed the hotel owner.
READING all the evidence I see nothing that would suggest she did and there is no motive.
It's been a huge lot of fabrication.

nostress · 05/02/2014 09:48

Hi all, reading this thread with interest. Initially I was thinking guilty guilty but now I'm taking on board with interest the other point of view. Can any of the not guilty peeps explain to me the phone calls. AK said she tried ringing MK phones and that they were ringing and ringing - presumably going unanswered for a long time. But the phone data showed she only called the phones for 3 and 4 seconds. What is the explanation for this. Have looked but cant find one...

PortofinoRevisited · 05/02/2014 11:31

As I recall, the phones ringing actually brought them to the attention of the woman at the end of whose garden they were found, so that says to me that they MUST have rung for more than a second or 2.

OP posts:
nostress · 05/02/2014 12:16

Apparently 3 and 4 seconds. Shown on the phone records.. Maybe she was in the garden?!

nostress · 05/02/2014 12:18

I guess if she tried 1 and then the other straight after the sound would go on for 7+ seconds ..

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 05/02/2014 13:08

My belief is that AK and RS weren't involved with the murder. Separately, I do not feel that any case against them is provable beyond reasonable doubt. I agree that there are inconsistencies in both their stories, which may be attributable to translation, misremembering (I think they were stoned) or lying and probably a combination.

So AK saying the phones rang and rang could be a lie from her (to make her look like she'd made more of an effort than she had), her misremembering or her saying "the phones rang several times" being translated into "rang and rang".

I'm not sure if she was being questioned as a witness or a suspect when she made the statement.

buddyfingy · 05/02/2014 15:54

Following these threads with interest. One point that has really stood out to me so far (and apologies if it has already been mentioned and I have missed it) is the use of pot the night before. However, on reading the letter that AK wrote to the Italian courts, 'Upon arrest I was tested for drugs and the results were negative.'
Is she lying about a drug test even happening? Or about not taking drugs in the first place? AFAIK pot can stay in the system for at least three weeks depending on your habits. Any ideas?

buddyfingy · 05/02/2014 15:56

Ok found the bit in her own statement that says she smoked pot: 'I smoked marijuana with him and I might even have fallen asleep.'
