I feel very sorry for him too. A moment of spontaneous warmth has been transformed into a perverted gesture. I hope the Diocese are more behind him than would appear from the press coverage and I just don't understand why the mother is making so much of this.

He was right too when he pointed out that we do loads more kissing on the cheek socially now, we've gone really tactile and continental in some ways and way too overprotective in others.

Mother sounds a complete monster. What a horrible way to bring up a child. I think SHE should be investigated rather than him.

WTF, that mother should be totally ashamed of herself . Not only for damning an innocent man but for wasting police time too.

Poor man. And the silly mother - it should be obvious it wasn't sinister when it was in front of the whole class. As per usual people getting up in arms and overcautious about innocent behaviour and ignoring where the real risks are - in their own homes and families. Makes me so and media reportage usually doesn't help. I'm glad in this case that the reporting has an understanding tone.

Totally and utterly ridiculous. The mother clearly has some issues. Perhaps she should be investigated. I could understand if he'd done it in a clandestine way out of sight of everyone else, but in full view of the whole school?? What on earth did she think he was trying to do?

We all kiss socially a lot more these days and the warmth of such a gesture probably did a lot more for that child's self-esteem than her mother causing a furore about it. The mother should look to her own motives and be thoroughly ashamed of herself.
