Actually I have to take issue with the police here, wtf were they doing taking this seriously? Surely there should be an iota of common sense at work in the local police station. I mean was a crime committed here??I think most would agree not, so why did they entertain the mad rantings of the mother?

Weirdo mother with Major Issues! I bet none of the powers that be wanted to follow this through but they were forced to because of ridiculous protocol that should have been able to be over ridden by common sense.. ie that the 'gesture in question' was in full view of the public, indeed deliberately in front of the rest of the class and teachers, but way of congratulations.. not some mucky little grope under a desk.

The mother had a right to privately tell him that she would rather he hadn't have done it.. that would have served it's purpose.. but she probably didn't have the guts to do that.. preferred to 'run to the authorities' and complain, risking this man's professional and personal reputation. I hope she gets some backlash because of this, daft cow.

maybe her daughter was extremely upset

cant you remember when old men tried to kiss you when you were little?

made my skin crawl, even close relatives

I think common sense has flown out of the window, her concern could have been expressed to the teacher if necessary and no harm came to the child not at least until it blew up out of proportion, now she will think that something awful happened how sad!

Lots of things and people make my skin crawl.. doesn't mean I am about to instigate an investigation for misconduct with a view to abuse! Neither am I one of those parents who goes riding rough-shod over others in order to defend my little darlings in all situations. If my daughter had said 'I didn't like that man kissing my cheek!' I would have said 'ok, well it's over now and he didn't mean to upset you.. he was just telling you well done.'

She is a daft cow IMO.

Nailpolish, I'll bet that almost everyone on this site agree's with you - ie that being kissed by old men was deeply unpleasant when we were little girls. That said it was not assault, it was just unpleasant, and certainly not sufficiently disturbing to ruin the career of a vicar ffs. Really you cant think that the mothers actions were justified?

I agree, I think being kissed by well-meaning avuncular older people was just one of the occupational hazards of being a child, like having to eat cabbage or go to bed in daylight in the summer

It's not assault FFS. Stupid woman.

i did say i felt sorry for him

old men kissing me when i was little really affected me, it must have done, why do i still remember it so vividly?

i have stopped uncles sitting dd's on their knee before now (one in particular) and i dont care who knows it or what they think

i hate it when they say "give your uncle XXX a kiss" YUK

i think the mother probably regrets her actions, but thats horse and stable stuff

Oh god yes, teachers and their coffee breath. I used to feel so sick. I actually gave up having violin lessons because of the smelly old crow who taught me at my last school. You could see the stains on her teeth and the little gaps where the enamel had ben whittled away

did the head use it to get back at the vicar? "relations between school and church were strained"

isn't that just malicious?

I feel sorry for the little girl as well. She is being used as a football, she will probably never forget it. That's one of the reasons I think her mother is an idiot.

as an aside on uncles...so my ds is an uncle to my grandson who is two, it's not wrong for him to change nappies and say come on give me a kiss...it's love isn't it..imagine telling him that he couldn't

She's complained to "the school's board of governors, Staffordshire education authority, the police and Brian Jenkins, the Labour MP for Tamworth", and she still says that more action should have been taken against him ("I am so disappointed with the way it has been handled and I would like him to be removed from his position").

It doesn't sound to me as though she regrets her actions in the slightest.
