It's going to last six months.

At least Andy turned up with a poppy on. Nice touch. Bit early though.

My sister has hair like that. Brushing just makes it stick out like a great big ball of fluff.

limitedperiodonly · 30/10/2013 08:52

How on earth can they select a jury without preconceived ideas about Coulson and Brooks?

I think that was an argument her solicitor put forward for dismissing the whole thing and he was told not to worry his pretty little head about it.

Ahh, that's good news, limited. I seem to remember some of the accused tried that idea on when they were arrested, too.

Good on the judge for making a big fuss now, including banging on about jurors being jailed for contempt if they look stuff up.

I would HATE for anything to imperil this trial...

Ah thanks for explaining. Wad beginning to feel a be thick

I liked the Mail's sketch. I'm not going to link to it, not because I hate the Mail but because I cba to look it up, about the first day and the description of the crowded dock. It's by a man called Robert Hardman and there's a nice actual sketch by a courtroom artist.

I particularly liked the detail that they all have to sit in the order they appear on the charge sheet for the duration. I've been a court reporter and it's very funny when that happens.

So apparently Crystal Tipps isn't sitting next to her mental dwarf spouse Charlie but is sandwiched between Andy Coulson and NotW head of news Ian Edmondson.

Imagine spending every day of the next six months between people, who if the worst happens, are going to say: 'Yeah, but we only did it because she was our ultimate boss.'

I also liked the description of Charlie tapping notes into his laptop - probably with one finger and his tongue poking out of the corner of his mouth.

I feel sorriest for Crystal's PA Cheryl, whose salary, though no doubt good, would have been way, way below everyone else's.

I'm sure all the others had PAs. WTF did Cheryl do to warrant her appearance when no other PA is there?

Maybe she'll turn out to be a deeply charismatic mastermind who cast a spell over her boss. I'm sure it's something the woman-heavy jury will ponder.

Cheryl is charged with being involved in the cover-up - all that undignified scrambling when the public learned about Millie Dowler's phone being hacked, I think.

She's the one over whom RB was sighing that it was so unfair the little people were being hurt, round the time of the arrests.

Pore lil' Cheryl. I blame her boss, you know.

You shouldn't do wrong.

You also shouldn't be without a chair when the music stops.

Cheryl attempted to leave the country for Australia with her family just before she was arrested for a new Murdoch position. She has worked with RB for about 20 years. She would have known what was happening and would have been completely trusted. I don't know if I think she deserves sympathy when ultimately she was just looking after her own interests/job. I may change my mind as the case proceeds.

donnie · 30/10/2013 18:57

Six months?

wow.....the legal eagles are all £££££££ in then.

Glenn Mulcaire has now admitted he hacked Milly Dowler's phone. This thing is going to make the general public gasp and cry all over again.

We will need to be very careful about what we say on any threads pertaining to the trial but suffice to say that , in the venerated words of Hamlet, each cat will mew, and dog will have his day.

VivaLeBeaver · 30/10/2013 18:58

I think the PA and the husband are accused of hiding evidence...or rather trying to hide it from the police

limitedperiodonly · 30/10/2013 22:52

Sometimes the kindness of my heart runs away with me. But it's never likely to get very far.

Apparently, so I read in a newspaper, having an affair is a sign of moral turpitude, and unfitness for positions of great influence.

SauceForTheGander · 31/10/2013 14:58

It's not nice is it - having your private lives revealed to the mass populace in a salacious judgemental way. Well, well, well - and there was me a karma refusenik.

TheGhostOfMargaretPast · 31/10/2013 14:59

There was some sort of super injunction a few months back about an affair and people though it was DC's db, now we know for definite.

Where is the little baby ordered at a convenient time via surrogate in all of this?

MrsScaryMontalbano · 31/10/2013 15:13

What six year affair? Missed this!

TheGhostOfMargaretPast · 31/10/2013 15:15

A few months back there was one of those press stories where two people had an affair who were close to No10, and they couldn't tell us who etc. People wondered if it wad David Cameron's brother or AC and RB or someone else.

Lordy. I'm amazed! Halloween Grin

A thread was started and quickly deleted in AIBU a few months ago ..... So some in the know mumsnetters being cryptic and funny at the time.

But the main point of this being revealed in court is that neither can pretend they didn't share all work gossip / opinions / decisions and the case for conspiracy could rest on their very close relationship.
