It's going to last six months.

At least Andy turned up with a poppy on. Nice touch. Bit early though.

RB gets more stick NOT because she's a woman, but because she was in charge. She was the boss. The buck should stop with her.

PetiteRaleuse · 31/10/2013 18:54

Slippery, two faced, hypocrite?

georgedawes · 31/10/2013 18:55

It really is going to be the trial that keeps on giving, isn't it? Grin

On a serious note, I hope the trial doesn't collapse because of the huge interest (and discussion) it's likely to attract. I saw an article on the guardian the other day saying that all of the MPs of every party have been written to with a warning not to prejudice the case by attacking Cameron in parliament about his links to it all. The temptation is surely going to be very high!

Does anyone have any links to live tweets to the trial so I can follow it?

georgedawes · 31/10/2013 18:56

I don't think she gets more stick for being a woman, just for being so ruthless and powerful in how she crucified other people despite being hardly lily white herself..e.g. her affair with Coulson!

PetiteRaleuse · 31/10/2013 18:56

Of course it should stop with her. Not denying that. I have a feeling the press wouldn't be as gleeful if it was a man. Look at the Private Eye front page for example. As I said it doesn't bother me too luch in this particular case. Was just putting the thought out there.

NorthernLurker · 31/10/2013 19:07

I think she gets more flak because she's a woman. That said - a man in her position would be in the dock too.

PetiteRaleuse · 31/10/2013 19:12

Yes of course he would.

The judge at the beginning was right when he warned the jury that this was going to be a huge test of the legal system.

limitedperiodonly · 31/10/2013 19:17

She does get more stick because she's a woman. I've explained that to someone today and also the idea that a woman might shag someone, or be accused of it in order to get on, which I wouldn't do for the sake of my marriage and my personal integrity, but consider to be the only way sometimes.

That's regardless of whether she was good or not, and there are more men in the dock than women. And some men who aren't in the dock.

That didn't go down particularly well because the person wanted to subscribe to the evil witch trope. But you know, tell the truth and shame the devil...

Rebekah's hair doesn't help. I thought the Private Eye cover was funny, yet cliched.

News of the World splashes under Brooks majored on one of those. I'll leave you to decide which one.

And Private Eye have a long and undistinguished tradition of hating women.

But ultimately, Brooks was in charge.

This is not going to collapseunless we have a last-minute intervention by the Queen. And, excuse me, didn't that to derail a trial prosecuted by John Yates, head of Scotland Yard's celeb squad, who was also on the pay roll of the News of the World?

He's skipped off scot-free. Maybe they'll call him back from Bahrain or wherever the fuck well-paid and dodgy berth he is now.

And you just know that their expensive lawyers will be trying anything and everything to get the case to collapse. On a serious note it does seem a difficult road ahead to get to any possible convictions.

I hope the jury do get to hear all the evidence and deliver their verdict. Certain editors/titles by all accounts seemed to think they were omnipotent (not even necessarily talking about this trial, Piers Morgan's diaries are unbelievable in demonstrating the power he wielded and he was nothing to RB/AC). I hope justice is done.

GW297 · 31/10/2013 19:39

I've no sympathy for either of them. I would love to be on the jury too!

PetiteRaleuse · 31/10/2013 19:42

Yes his diaries were very interesting.

The queen can't intervene, it would be handing republicans a jewel encrusted stick to beat her with.

TheGhostOfMargaretPast · 31/10/2013 20:18

PetiteRaleuse are you referring to the Paul Burrell case?

Chipstick10 · 31/10/2013 20:20

I would kill for Rebecca Brooks hair.

MrsScaryMontalbano · 31/10/2013 20:23

lol @ Rebecca's hair not helping, and the jewel-encrusted stick Halloween Grin
top thread!

limitedperiodonly · 31/10/2013 20:23

I was being flippant about the Queen.

It doesn't matter how expensive their lawyers are. Lawyers are expensive, full stop.

The prosecution's case seems to be to convince the jury that people at the very top would/should have known.

That might be difficult but I've no doubt the jury will get to hear all the evidence; why wouldn't they?

Editors and other powerful people think they're God. Piers Morgan included. That stops in a court of law.

Earlier this year, seeing pics of her, I was very sneery about her hair, as for year I've been straightening my hair (which is naturally like hers) - her hair did not seem very business like or professional.
Then this summer I changed career, and decide to let my own barnet go au naturel for the first time in about 25 years... And everyone told
me it looks better & I look younger Halloween Shock - and I 've saved a lot of money and time...
In her case, she seems quite a busy lady Halloween Grin - prob has not time to brush it.
The Private Eye cover was very funny.

Chubfuddler · 31/10/2013 20:36

I'd give anything for a tumbrill emoticon

georgedawes · 31/10/2013 21:27

I think it's going to be the most sensational court case ever seen. Genuinely.

Wish I was on the jury!

nonmifairidere · 31/10/2013 21:35

Wonder what the front page story will be in 'The Sun' tomorrow? Doesn't it relish making those 'clever' headlines for this stuff.

ExcuseTypos · 31/10/2013 21:54

I've just gone on The Sun's web page and very surprisingly, it's not mentioned AT ALL. Hmm Grin

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 31/10/2013 22:06

'Andy Coulson married his wife Eloise in 2000 and Brooks married Eastenders star Ross Kemp in 2002, when it was claimed they were having an affair with each other'

\link{http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2480886/Rebekah-Brooks-Andy-Coulson-6-year-affair-phone-hacking-trial-hears.html\thanks, DM} (for the timings) Grin

nonmifairidere · 31/10/2013 22:09

Typos Shocker, 'The Sun' is slipping, it just doesn't have the quality of editorial staff and leadership it used to, does it?

ExcuseTypos · 31/10/2013 22:12

I know, you simply can't get the staff nowadays.

ohmymimi · 31/10/2013 22:13

ExcuseTypos - Redtop ignores Redtop!
