It's going to last six months.

At least Andy turned up with a poppy on. Nice touch. Bit early though.

Coulson's barrister has said that his phone was hacked by Mulcaire too but the prosecution didn't mention it because they didn't want to admit he was a victim too.

On the one hand the barrister is saying everything was so fast moving and cut throat that Coulson couldn't possibly have even known what was in the newspaper, never mind how it got there. On the other hand he is implying that there would have been shared moral values e.g. how far to go when hacking somebody's phone (Dowlers) and some kind of expected honour amongst thieves i.e. it is surprising that Mulcaire would have hacked Coulson's phone, and that this in some way makes Coulson more innocent/less guilty. Doesn't make sense to me.

I particularly like the idea that the News of the World are pro-police (and therefore wouldn't have interfered with an investigation) given the other police related scandals the paper was involved in...

Also, I can understand Coulson not reading every single sports report in the back of the paper, or perhaps the horoscopes, but the stories that involved phone hacking were generally the stories that sold papers.

Can someone fill me in on the Alan Titchmarsh jokes? I saw his show yesterday and I don't think I had ever seen him before. After watching his show I realise I al not lissing out on much but would love to know the relevance here.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 05/11/2013 11:00

just that CB is his doppelganger (IMHO) Grin

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 05/11/2013 11:03

Now this is jolly interesting

ParsingFancy · 05/11/2013 11:12

And they still haven't learned that the cover-up is worse than the deed!

In other news, Peter Jukes can't afford to keep tweeting the trail unless someone pays his mortgage. This being the problem of free content on the internet.

I'm not up for doing the organising, but would happily bung him a few quid if someone else set up some crowdsourcing. He's excellent value.

limitedperiodonly · 05/11/2013 11:17

You could have warned me about that pic of Elisabeth Murdoch and Matthew Freud

sorry, limited Thanks

Parsing, I would too but surely he has to do it himself in order to get the money? or someone close to him to do it?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 05/11/2013 11:28

Tabloid English in email 3 ("their is 45 messages" )

limitedperiodonly · 05/11/2013 17:42

i'm not a detective

Said by a Surrey police press officer today when asked whether her officers should have been more curious about the NotW's knowledge about Millie Dowler's voicemails.

It's not just the hacking. With respect to Millie's memory, I think that's relatively minor. It's the suspicion of collusion between police officers and other people - whether they work for the media or earn their living in some other way.

I really, really want Surrey Police to answer for this. Even if they were just incompetent rather than corrupt. I also want other police forces to be investigated as well.

Peter Jukes' crowdfunding page now at www.indiegogo.com/projects/live-coverage-of-the-phone-hacking-trial, for anyone interested.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 05/11/2013 19:05

oh great! thanks, Parsing Smile

BeCoolFucker · 05/11/2013 22:11

Blimey Peter Jukes has over £3k already (goal £4k) - fantastic idea.

lalalonglegs · 05/11/2013 22:18

It is really hard to imagine what the defence has up its sleeve to counter this extremely strong start by the prosecution. They're not really going to keep going at six months at this rate surely?

ElizabethJonesMartin · 06/11/2013 09:34

It always looks one sided when the prosecution start. Just wait.

ParsingFancy · 06/11/2013 10:29

Peter Jukes has reached the target and is at the trial, ready to start tweeting again. Should we start collecting now for his future RSI?

AnyaKnowIt · 06/11/2013 10:34

And in other news, civil claims against trinity mirror can go ahead.

BeCoolFucker · 06/11/2013 14:27

I'm so rubbish with Twitter.
Do we know if anyone is summarising PJ's Tweets? Live Feed style a la Oscar Pistorious bail hearing?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 06/11/2013 14:45

\link{http://fothom.wordpress.com/\he's posting some stuff on his blog} (but only what can't be live tweeted I think)

BUT another tweeter did a summary recently, hang on...

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 06/11/2013 14:51

\link{http://storify.com/gabriellenyc/livetweeting-from-hackingtrial-by-peterjukes?utm_source=t.co&utm_content=storify-pingback&awesm=sfy.co_jUlJ&utm_medium=sfy.co-twitter&utm_campaign=\GabrielleNYC}

BUT not a summary, she actually lists all the tweets, & she starts at the start, & there are only a few per page, so I gave up while she was still doing Oct 30 Grin

if you have time & patience though you can at least read them all without all the other tweets getting in the way
