It's going to last six months.

At least Andy turned up with a poppy on. Nice touch. Bit early though.

Be just read Juke's tweets.

It is the Chuckle brothers with a bit of Del Boy planning thrown in.

MurderOfGoths · 04/11/2013 13:47

We're only how many days in and it's already farcical? How much more nuts will it be by the end??

limitedperiodonly · 04/11/2013 13:49

I'm feeling as dim as Charlie here. I get that Edis is alleging they disposed of evidence but it seems terribly convoluted and not very ept Grin

What did they do and who did it?

Just a simple precis would do.

Cheryl Carter removed from the NotW archive 7 boxes of papers.
it was done on a day when both she & RB were in the office (mobile phone evidence) although both RB & CC deny that RB was there when they were removed.
CC claims the boxes were mislabelled as RB's notebooks & were actually her own papers.
she also claims the police told her she could take them?

I think that's the main evidence.

then all the hanky panky around the bin

and a lot of correspondence about instituting an email deletion policy

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 13:54

there is email evidence about having an email deletion policy haha

ParsingFancy · 04/11/2013 13:54

They put the black bag in,
The black bag out,
The black bag in,
Then shook it all about.

They did the hokey-cokey and they turned around [as captured on CCTV].

That's what it's all about!

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 13:57

oh no, she told the police the archivist told her she should take the boxes (wrong way round)

not true apparently

it's all in Peter Jukes twitter account, if you go back to the start of today & read upwards it makes sense Grin

ExcuseTypos · 04/11/2013 14:06

Juke's tweets say no evidence was found on the behind the bin computers, so what the jeff were they doing all that for?

I have a theory! It was a distraction to what was actually going on somewhere else, nudge midge, wink wink.

ExcuseTypos · 04/11/2013 14:10

Sodding iPad keeps changing words.

mignonnette · 04/11/2013 14:10

Apparently there is going to be a 'bombshell' revelation during the trial that will shock everybody (but especially journalists) to the core. Am dying to find out more.

Awaits with breath abated.

What I want to know is why only past it media people have been arrested and charged under Yewtree. Not one politician, member of the judiciary, captain of industry etc. Are we really supposed to believe that not one of these professions had any links to paedophilia or the sexual abuse of minors? Very very fishy.....

limitedperiodonly · 04/11/2013 14:13

Why did they put the laptop back behind the bin?

The river's only across the road. If you wanted to get rid of something you could chuck it in there.

People told me that when the NotW closed and Rebekah delivered her pious little speech to the soon-to-be-unemployed the mood was very ugly.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 14:23

now we're hearing about 3 missing bits of hardware which used to be used at Oxfordshire house

CB's laptop
RB's iphone
RB's ipad

all lorst & gorn forever

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 14:24

(they were in use just before Operation Binbag but have never been seen since)

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 14:27

oh dear - end of opening statement Sad

"Counts 6 and 7 are different events, but there is a common feature.... and that is Mrs Brooks. We say inconceivable...without consent
"We say you can put both counts together... for the same purpose of obstructing police investigation"

it seems as if RB has been surprisingly ept at covering her own tracks (apart from being present at the Chuckle Brothers episode)

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 14:29

6 & 7 are these 2 I think:

She also stands accused with former colleague Cheryl Carter, 49, of conspiring to pervert the course of justice by allegedly removing seven boxes of material from the News International archive in July 2011.

The final charge relates to an allegation that she, her husband Charlie Brooks, 50, and Mark Hanna, News International's head of security, conspired to pervert the course of justice by allegedly hiding documents and computer equipment from the police in July 2011.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 14:30

oh, close of prosecution opening statement

defence opening statement still to come

AND

hurrah - there can still be live tweeting, depending on what's going on

limitedperiodonly · 04/11/2013 14:37

Back at that Parliamentary sub-committee years ago she admitted paying police officers for information and I thought: 'you've just confessed to a serious criminal offence.'

Andy Coulson jumped in and said that wasn't what she meant but she didn't appear to realise the enormity of what she'd said.

And the committee and the police weren't at all interested in pursuing it. I wonder why?

OP posts:
TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 14:43

“I hope that you all realise it’s inconceivable that I knew or, worse, sanctioned these appalling allegations"

very carefully (& oddly) worded, I thought at the time

\link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13092045"A criminal investigation into claims journalists paid police officers for information is being considered by Scotland Yard"} in April 2011

it is odd that she wasn't questioned more closely at the time but they were possibly stunned at what she'd said too

she had her defence ready later

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 14:45

god, that was 10 years ago!!! I thought it was more recent...things were a bit different then, Murdoch-wise

Onesleeptillwembley · 04/11/2013 14:49

Did anyone else see the drama on TV roughly based on it a couple of years ago? It ended up with her going to prison and, (I think) making a fortune from her memoirs.

limitedperiodonly · 04/11/2013 15:59

I enjoying the little spat between Neil Wallis and Peter Jukes.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/11/2013 16:06

What's wallis' point? I've only skimmed, I don't do twitter and haven't a clue how to figure out convos. Something about dawn raids? And wording of something?

It's 4pm, wonder how much longer today's evidence will last?
