But this is so wrong!!

no not abortion - the fact that the church is getting mixed up in politics. If catholics want to follow the guidance of their priests and not have abortions or use contraception then that is their choice. But the Pope (or archbishop) has NO right to have so much 'say' over something which affects everyone.

Okay my own view, I am strongly in favour of a womans right to choose. Part of the problem in the past has been the waiting time - ie it is feasible to find out you are pregnant only after you miss the second period - first missed period is often spotty blood. (say you had a tummy bug or the condom had a hole in and you thought you were protected).
By that time you could be 9 weeks pregnant. If the limit is 12 weeks that leaves 3 weeks to make a decision and organise the treatment. In some areas that simply isn't going to work.
Obviuosly one area that needs looking at is ensuring that all terminations are carried out wihtin 2 weeks.
Myself I agree with the point about abnormalities and the 20 week scan. I wouldn't have continued my pregnancy if there had been abnormalities of certian types. Given that my 20 week scan was a week late due to waiting lists and the DR had my dates wrong I was actually 23 weeks when i had the scan. Even with the 24 week cutoff I would have been cutting it fine.

I think 24 weeks is okay, its never an easy discussion to have but its a matter of whether to bring a new life in or not - maybe it shouldn't be an easy discussion?

(btw I have had a termination, at 21, with my current partner and no abnormalities. We had been together 2 months, Antibiotics messed up my pill and I got pregnant. and you know what? I didn't actually know they could do that - my GP didn't tell me, and it never occured to me that when the pharmacist asked if I was on 'medication' he meant the contraceptive pill!)
