Sorry, Peacedove, it doesn't matter if the paper published it out of concern for freedom of expression, or out of malicious intent. I am afraid their motives make no difference to me. I still think I should be free to attack the Prophet if I want to.

Papillon · 08/02/2006 11:44

Jesus went commercial on Southpark afterall did he not??

peacedove · 08/02/2006 11:45

Janh No, to me these aren't interesting. To read about Jesus (pbuh) is, though; his teachings, and his work, as for other prophets (peace be upon them).

Caligula · 08/02/2006 11:47

I think the Jesus cartoons thing is a red herring as well. They were unsolicited and it happend in April 2003 as opposed to September 2005 for the Mohammed cartoons.

If you could demonstrate that the paper had a systematic policy of deliberately insulting muslim sensibilities, while protecting christian ones, then this would be relevant and would be a very serious charge against Jylandsposten. But 2 separate incidents do not demonstrate a systematic policy. (Any industrial tribunal would tell you that!)

suzywong · 08/02/2006 11:55

I am watching Abu Hamza being interviewed on BBC news 24. The interviewers is really baiting and harranguing him, which is actually allowing him to be on the backfoot and therefore not aggresive. It's a long time since I've heard such a thick Harringey accent.

Now AH is claiming he never met Richard Reed the shoebomber.

sorry to but in but this is about the only chance I ge to be topical.

peacedove · 08/02/2006 11:57

Caligula I think the West in general has a habit of testing Muslim sensibilities from time to time to see if we have become desentitised enough to be admitted to the league of civilised people.

Can we leave it at that. I suspect this may turn into someone again trying to test my sensibilities.

I don't want to be that civilised.

Dinosaur · 08/02/2006 12:01

I think that starting this thread and naming individual posters in the title is bullying behaviour, moondog. I am getting the impression from your posts and those of some others on previous threads that you think that "the only good Muslim is one who agrees with us". Which is unspeakably arrogant. If I were Muslim I would be enraged. F* it, I am enraged even though I'm not Muslim.

Rhubarb · 08/02/2006 12:04

Let's all sing the Catholic national anthem shall we?

"Every sperm is sacred!
Every sperm is great!
If a sperm gets wasted
God gets quite irate!"

All bow down to the infinite wisdom of the catholic teachings!

peacedove · 08/02/2006 12:10

Rhubarb you need a basic biology lesson, Sperms and eggs get wasted all the time. It is the fertilised egg that should be sacred.

poppadum · 08/02/2006 12:11

PD, you are your own worst enemy with these conspiracy theories and by putting "The West" in one monolithic category. The West, as you put it, tests everybody's sensibilities, not just the Muslims. if you don't want to be civilised, that's your business, but you must grant us our freedom to be irreverant.

Rhubarb · 08/02/2006 12:13

Ahh but PD, wastage by nature is fine, it is when you deliberately waste the sperm by using [shudder] a condom that is the sin! You should never interfere with nature! Sex is all about children, didn't you know?

peacedove · 08/02/2006 12:18

pappadam shall we say I do not want an exchange on this matter any more, without having any ill-will towards you.

Rhubarb: "You should never interfere with nature!"

Then why should Catholic priests be celibate.

doormat · 08/02/2006 12:21

pd "why are women treated as second class citizens?????"

Rhubarb · 08/02/2006 12:24

Priests have to be celibate and not wank or anything so that their sperm goes straight back to Jesus and saved!

Papillon · 08/02/2006 12:28

oh now I get it... the white light is actually a priestly sperm bank.

poppadum · 08/02/2006 12:29

Pd,

fair enough. As I said, I sit on the fence. I understand what you are saying about the superiority complex of the West, which certainly still exists, in George Bush's mind anyway. However, I believe this is equalled by the superiority complex of some Islamists.

I don't believe that all Muslim women are oppressed and second class citizens. equally, I don't believe that all western women are godless, at least not as I understand God.

I guess i have a moral vaccuum in my heart!

peacedove · 08/02/2006 12:29

doormat In many societies, women (and other groups that have not had power or have lost it) are indeed treated as second clss citizens. It would be very interesting to stdy this, through history to today, and see what can be done to make sure that everyone becomes a first class citizen.

However Rhubarb was enlightening me on not interfering with nature, and that is no less interesting a topic.

If you like you can tell me why you think women have a second class status. Obviously you or other MNers must have done some research on it.

peacedove · 08/02/2006 12:32

Rhubarb that is a very interesting reason. But we know that some priests do not stay celibate. They have enganed in sexual relations. Does it not mean that staying celibate was unnatural, and nature made them rebel against it?

Papillon · 08/02/2006 12:36

humans love to interfere with nature even if its just to study it...

peacedove · 08/02/2006 12:40

The Garden of Eden, that is a lovely discovery. The news is on bbc as well, Ithink.

Rhubarb · 08/02/2006 13:05

No PD, it just means unfortunately that many lost their way, like the sheep in that very wise parable! But God distorts their sperm so that children of priests are genetically mutated!

My own mother was a nun, my high price for this was having to go through life with a gorgeous body, stunning looks and incredible intelligence. Obviously for us humble catholics this is a very bad curse indeed!

peacedove · 08/02/2006 13:09

Rhubarb with such assets as yours, we will habe to borg you first.

Rhubarb · 08/02/2006 13:10

My dear PD, I shall simply exorcise you into non-existence!
