peacedove - I show you a crucifix and then shower you will holy water whilst you melt, screaming, onto the floor!

(hope I'm not disturbing a serious debate here!)

poppadum · 08/02/2006 10:44

I have absolutely nothing of any intelligence to say about superpower politics, beyond saying that sometimes I agree with you, PD, and sometimes with you, Uwila.

That's the kind of fence-sitting, wishy-washy, Guuardian reading liberal I am. I obviously do need to have my intellect taken over.

Mem to self: Read more Robert Fisk so you can at least try to look intelligent.

Enid · 08/02/2006 10:45

ah so then if you are the Borg peacedove, you might assimilate us and we may destroy you from the inside

peacedove · 08/02/2006 10:46

uwila I agree that the Russian government, and the Chinese for that matter have become ruthlessly materialistic.

These wars are mostly about oil, or energy resources, to be precise.

peacedove · 08/02/2006 10:49

Rhubarb thew priests and the Catholic teachers (male and female) who taught me at school, tried but failed.

I am incorrigible.

uwila · 08/02/2006 10:53

It's amount money. It's about power. It always will be. And US owned independant oil companies and the companies who serve then are most certainly not alone. This same greed exists in the middle east, in Asia, in Russia, in Europe, in South America... until we have an alternative and comparable energy source ~(not to mention plastics!), oil will drive the politics of this world. It didn't start and it won't end with the Bush administration.

doormat · 08/02/2006 10:59

Pity they didnt jail this lunatic for longer

Caligula · 08/02/2006 11:06

He's appealing.

Caligula · 08/02/2006 11:07

Sorry, I don't mean I find him appealing I mean he'll be appealing legally.

Caligula · 08/02/2006 11:07

One has to be so careful about clarifying one's posts in the current atmosphere...

Piffle · 08/02/2006 11:09

Doormat it is very likely he will be extradited to the US to face charges of kidnapping - conspiracy and murder (I think these are the allegations)
I suspect found guilty over there he might pay with his life, or for life?
I think he is going to fight the extradition but am sure without question he will be extradited.

uwila · 08/02/2006 11:09

What's with you today... only an hour or so ago I was darling, and now Abu is appealing....

Piffle · 08/02/2006 11:10

And I think his entitlement to benefit might come from having 7 kids?
And Caligula!

Papillon · 08/02/2006 11:14

There is an ex-Borg MNetter... 7777777

whose chestal region both assimilates and annilates

doormat · 08/02/2006 11:14

piffle, I read that this morning but he has to come out of jail before they can apply for extradition ( if I read right)at least the US wont be lenient.

On the subject I hope this other lunatic and the rest of them that were protesting on saturday go to jail.

I dont agree with the cartoons and I dont agree with inciting hatred and violence neither.

Piffle · 08/02/2006 11:18

crikey papillon, mine only go up and down but they do make lovely slapping noises when I run. And dp calls them the terminators...

Piffle · 08/02/2006 11:19

yes doormat that is true but now that they have the right to detain people suspected of involvement with terrorism, they could legally keep him imprisoned without further charge in the name of "public safety" one presumes.

Papillon · 08/02/2006 11:22

HA HA piffle.... my are fairly enormous but since they feed a baby and toddler they are assimilators I guess... and they are lopsided which makes the boys go crosseyed

is Uwila Darlink better than Uwila darling?

JanH · 08/02/2006 11:23

I don't know what I think Confused. Not keen on old hooky though.

peacedove, thanks for your explanation earlier but it doesn't clarify anything for me...

"As for the three additional pictures, they were not added by the Imams, but were already there in the dossier that had been submitted before the Imams had access to it." What dossier? Who submitted it? Who to? And where do these Imams fit in?

(I know I will regret asking this!)

uwila · 08/02/2006 11:23

I believe it is British law that doesn't allow him to be extridited until his sentence here is served. But, I'm sure the US will be happy to recieve him at the end of the sentence.

Wonder where his son is now? ThinkI read that he too has served jail time for terrorist activities... somewhere in the Middle East I think?

doormat · 08/02/2006 11:25

well it would be one less lunatic on the street it they detained him indefinitely imo.

Piffle · 08/02/2006 11:28

I'm impressed by how quickly one can swap between a nork conversation and a political one.
Wow!

peacedove · 08/02/2006 11:33

Janh You repeated the accusation that the Danish Muslim leaders (Imams) had added 3 other objectionable drawings to the 12 already published, and taken them to the Muslim countries, thereby worsening the situation.

I read an interview of the representative of the Danish Imams, in which he said they hadn't done it, and he gave some details which proved that a dossier had been compiled and submitted (probably to the Pm or the prosecutor) by an indpendent body, and those three drawings were in it. I don't have the link any more, or I would have looked it up to give an accurate account of what he had said.

In my opinion, no other rawings are needed to be insulting. These have enough material to cause emotions to run high.

Incidentally, the same paper had refused to publish the pictures (quite rightly) of Jesus that had been submitted by a painter earlier on (3 years ago - I must really save the links), on the grounds that these would offend the Christians.

So freedom of expression was not the issue with this paper.

Papillon · 08/02/2006 11:37

piffle its kiwi ingenuity mate thats what it is

JanH · 08/02/2006 11:40

Jesus cartoons reported here .

(And also here - same report, once under politics and once under media.)

It would be interesting to see them, wouldn't it.
