Does anyone who live locally know what's going on? Have many of the travellers left? Will there be a horrible fight at 9am tomorrow?

For all the uneducated on this subject namely Niceguy, Mankyminks, Teachermumof3 and all the other ignorant participants of this thread. For your info what really happened was the residents bought the land of the council on the understanding that it would be granted planning permission. They then built on the land and applied for planning permission all entirely legal. Problems only arose when the council then refused that permission on the grounds that the site is on environmentally protected "greenbelt" land. However In the 30 years prior to Dale Farm being erected the site was a scrap yard /industrial site and as a result is heavily polluted. The council didnt attempt to evict the scrap yard meaning the land should no longer be classified as greenbelt. Importantly just because land is classified as greenbelt doesnt mean a council wont grant planning permission. Recently a property developer was given permission to erect 900 new homes on greenbelt land near Dale Farm. The only illegality happening here is the councils refusal for planning permission on the basis that Irish Travellers are the applicants. Shame on all of you racists and those who know sweet f a about our people and culture.

Do you all know 'mary' ??

She was on the news and looked like she was in charge

Lackine · 22/09/2011 23:33

I rest my case "ignorant, uneducated and racist".

SansaLannister · 22/09/2011 23:35

Well, at least I'm not a law-breaker.

SansaLannister · 22/09/2011 23:35

I couldn't care less what someone's culture is, no one is above the law, break it and face the consequences.

GypsyMoth · 22/09/2011 23:40

So Dale farm ladies...... What's the plan?

Are you packed ready to go? Where will you go? Have you made plans or just determined to stay?

mankyminks · 22/09/2011 23:49

Wow,lackine that's some accusations you make there. Do you know me?If not where did you get the information concerning my level of education from? I am also very far removed from ignorant and the least racist person you may ever come across.
I feel personally attacked
Just because someone is not agreeing with you, doesn't give you the right to judge someone's personality, character or person.
Very cheap shot. Desperate almost.

mankyminks · 22/09/2011 23:57

My personal opinion is they bought the land, got partial planning permission for what's now known as the legal part and gambled on getting permission for the other part aswell because that's what had happened in the past. They gambled wrong, didn't get their permission and have dragged this whole thing through the courts again and again and that's why it's taken a decade to get where we are now.
Finding all their options exhausted they are refusing to go whilst wearing out the racist card and screaming 'ethnic cleansing'. That on it's own I find sickening.

Lackine · 23/09/2011 00:18

Whats wrong Mankyminks does it hurt when people make assumptions about your character, well welcome to our world. In your words "to judge someone's personality, character or person.Very cheap shot. Desperate almost". Your right and this is what is happening on a daily basis to the Traveller Community well guess what we dont like the accusations either because contrary to belief we're not animals and we find the assumptions made by so called educated people beyond belief. In your shoes I'm sure its easy to talk about playing the racist card but until you have walked in ours I dont think you are fully qualified to comment.

Dalefarmdolly · 23/09/2011 05:56

The reason for this kouklamo could be that each council has been given a target of the number if legal sites they should provide to ensure the needs of this particular minority is met. So the same as every other minority only difference being is each council has failed to even come close to reaching this target and the government are now looking into scrapping this....why would you say that is....would this happen to any other minority group....If it did I wonder if you would be as small minded as you are when its traveling people. Mankyminks I'm assuming from your last post that you have integrated with the traveling people you have in your own area to be able to come to this conclusion...or could this just be tarring one group of people with the same brush from what you hear/read.

If you had done your research and this wasn't a case of a load of idiots jumping on one big RACIST bandwagon then thats fair enough but you all focus on one law for everyone but when you are challenged in a fair way you come back with nothing but negativity towards a minority of people you have proved you know absolutely nothing about. It's a shame that your willin to spend your time being so rude when this could be spent doing some
good old research into an area that is obviously of great interest to you all.

Dalefarmdolly · 23/09/2011 06:03

Hahaha it's people like you Mankyminks that makes it o so easy for us to use the racist card. This thread just gets funnier and funnier !

Dillydaydreaming · 23/09/2011 07:56

Are you for real *DalefarmDolly"? Not that I am suspicious Hmm

GypsyMoth · 23/09/2011 07:56

Dalefarmdolly.......so how do you think it's going to go today?

laky · 23/09/2011 08:51

Well first of all may i start by wishing Dalefarm Residents the best of luck today, fingers crossed for u all. Secondly i just want to say "emmacummins" "DalefarmDolly" and "Lackiene" thank the holy lord for people like yourselfs who can let these bunch of twots know just what they are it much nicers words than me. Grin

mankyminks · 23/09/2011 08:51

Still don't get what it was that I said that was racist, please point it out. Yes,I do speak from personal experience as it happens and I may well have walked in shoes not dissimilar to yours. I came to Britain from abroad so I have had to integrate, adjust to the culture differences and learn the language and was very happy to do so. I have come across a lot of prejudice but have always taken the time and effort to get to know the community around me,for them to have the opportunity to understand me/my background better. To the point I have had to stand there listening to real racist remarks about foreigners when people didn't realise I wasn't British. When they had finished their rants,I would point out they where actually talking about people like me.It would open up a debate and it's a way to help people be less 'scared' of the unknown and often rethink their opinions. Just a different way to go about it.
That's why I don't get why you keep calling me a racist.
I just happen not to agree with you on the Travellers issue. That doesn't make me a bad person though, does it.

niceguy2 · 23/09/2011 08:58

the residents bought the land of the council on the understanding that it would be granted planning permission. They then built on the land and applied for planning permission all entirely legal.

Ok, so educate me. Who gave you that understanding? Was it in writing? Did they say you could build on all of it or just the legal part which planning permission was granted for?

The thing is you applied for retrospective planning permission. You cannot and should not have relied upon this before moving in.

It's like buying a car isn't it and the seller tells me that it will pass its MOT no problems. Surely as a buyer it would be common sense to say "Well, get it's MOT then and I'll buy it". What I mean is that common sense would dictate that you insist upon planning permission being granted before you bought the land. Especially since the council were the sellers.

I can sort of see why you'd feel aggrieved if the council has led you to believe that but if that's the case why have their assurances that you would be given planning permission not been publicised? Surely you'd be shouting that from the rafters and waving the bits of paper the council have said this on?

But at the end of the day you do not have planning permission. End of.

Wasnt the whole arguement here that they were apparently "law breakers " and "criminals"? When in actual fact they DIDNT act illegally! Why not just accept that you were wrong and appologise for your little hiccup rather than now try to claim its down to Common sense because that is what id say in your words "mankyminks" is desperate.

mankyminks · 23/09/2011 09:19

Laky,I rest my case.I have asked time and time again to point out what it was I said that you consider to be racist. Why aren't you answering that really quite simple question.
Thank you for so beautifully clarifying the difference between you and me.
When I was confronted with real life racism,I dealt with it by talking to these people and very often their remarks and opinions turned out to come from lack of information.
I didn't go round screaming abusive remarks in return, cry RACISM and run,I tried to have a reasonable debate with people and once they had had a chance to get to know me properly they very often changed their attitude in a positive way.

I most certainly wouldn't stand there wallowing in the discomfort of the person who the abuse was aimed at or join as you seem to think is the treatment I deserve...... Empathy my Dear, try it,you might like it.

mankyminks · 23/09/2011 09:22

Emma, building on green belt land without planning permission is breaking the law and that's a criminal offence. What's there to apologise for? Please clarify.
