Empusa · 08/08/2011 21:34

georgimama That poor man :(

Rumours of trouble in Ealing Broadway :(

ImpyCelyn · 08/08/2011 21:34

Fortunately we're away on holiday, but I'm really worried about my brother now. He's home alone in Charlton, which is now almost surrounded by places with riots. I'm really hoping it stops creeping closer to him.

I'm also getting a bit worried about our home in the same area after reading that they're now breaking into houses in some areas. But at least we're not in it, if anything does happen. I can't imagine how scared I'd be if I was there with DS.

So sorry for all of you who are areas being targeted by these cretins, or who have friends and family there. I hope you're all safe.

Pedallleur · 08/08/2011 21:35

It's not really anarchy. It's just chavvy youth out to get their fill of luxury goods and get a pop at the Police. TV seems to be full of gurning idiots on their phones out for a night of viewing the mayhem.

TheMonster · 08/08/2011 21:37

exactly, pedallleaur. such idiots.

Empusa · 08/08/2011 21:41

Just seen what looks like a house on fire on the news :( They've moved on from shops then?

guiltyparent · 08/08/2011 21:42

They are just thugs and there is no excuse. As the wife of a police officer I just shudder when i watch the pictures on TV. To all of you either in the middle of this crazyness or with family caught up in it, keep safe and I hope this is over soon.

Any seasonned Londoner able to give basic postcode areas effected? I'm wondering whether I need to be contacting some relatives and offering a bed out of the capital. I don't know London at all, these places are names I know but I've no idea if they're close to the people I'm concerned about.

londonone · 08/08/2011 21:52

sw11, se15, se22

londonone · 08/08/2011 21:54

e9

Empusa · 08/08/2011 21:54

From here
"Meanwhile unconfirmed reports are coming in of riots in Feltham Young Offenders? Institute."

MissBetsyTrotwood · 08/08/2011 21:54

E5, E8, E9, N16. Probably only a matter of time before E1 and E2 as well.

DeWe · 08/08/2011 21:55

Possibly a silly question, but how close to se23 is it?

MooncupGoddess · 08/08/2011 21:58

DeWe - I think people in London are best advised to stay where they are, inside. It is scary on the streets and the traffic will be gridlocked with so many streets shut, emergency vehicles etc.

The main worry for civilians is the fires... really feel for anyone near one, it must be terrifying.

Empusa · 08/08/2011 21:59

I'd imagine travel in and out of London is almost impossible right now

DeWe · 08/08/2011 22:01

I was thinking more of offering a bed tomorrow for until things calm down. We're too far away to get to tonight, but she's on her own, and might appreciate just being able to get out of the area for the time being.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 08/08/2011 22:02

Get Parliament back. We need some leadership right now. It's started in London - how long before the rest of the country? This collective madness and violence is very very infectious.

EdithWeston · 08/08/2011 22:05

COBRA meeting tomorrow.

Not sure whether recalling Parliament would help, or hinder (by distracting police attention to deal with PQs, rather than events).

glitterkitty · 08/08/2011 22:09

I'm between Welling, Woolwich and Lewisham- anyone else heard anything- cant find out online?!?1

Empusa · 08/08/2011 22:10

"It's started in London - how long before the rest of the country?"

It's already in Birmingham, and apparently Leeds and Wolverhampton

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 08/08/2011 22:13

MissBetsy - apparently people on Clarence Rd were told to evacuate some time ago. At least hopefully that means they will be somewhere safer and peaceful... just hope their places will be OK too.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 08/08/2011 22:16

I know. I just saw on the news. Shit.

I can't contact my friends who live on the street most affected in Hackney. There are kids that attend my son's school who live on the estate designated a 'no go zone'. I hope they are OK tonight.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 08/08/2011 22:17

Oh, that's some better news, MyName... . Thanks.

mama2plusbump · 08/08/2011 22:18
