Anyone in Hackney? How is it looking there?

My friend lives next to St John in the centre of Hackney. She has a disabled son who is becoming increasingly aware and scared of what is happening outside his house.

I see from another site that there's a rocking horse in the middle of the road. That means either merry go round (second hand shop selling/exchanging kids clothes and toys) or the kids shop on the narrow way has been done. What next? Torch the kids soft play centre on Clarence rd?

When will they get it through their heads it's THEIR OWN LIVES they are ruining?

Just spoke. She's just got him off to sleep, in her bed, rocking him. Her parents are there with her and have the car ready to go if necc. But you are very sweet and brave for asking! Now lock your door and be safe!!

Croydon fires are terrible. Have been watching sky news for last 15 minutes. terrible.

Disgusting, people loosing their homes and livelyhoods not to mention the bad press for the olympics.

A similar thing happened in Newcastle in the 90's after 2 joyriders were kiilled. Its only a matter of time before an innocent person or a police officer dies

What is wrong with these people? If they are protesting about having no jobs, no future etc what do they think will be left for them after all these fires go out? What exactly do they think this will achieve?

BBC have got some ace sounding bloke whose bar has been done over on live feed. His girlfriend and seven year old are trapped in the middle of it after he took an old lady to the police cordon to get her help, now he can't get back to them - he just said "I hope these people rot in hell".

I've also been watching SKY: the report from Hackney had to be cut short a couple of minutes ago because the police advised the street the crew was in was no longer safe.

It looks as if the big fire (low building on a corner) in Croydon is spreading. I know this is a bit ghoulish, but do any MNetters know what building that is? And it looks as if there is at least one other big fire too (behind a tower block)

It's a furniture store. It's right on the flyover and yes, I would assume there are flats above. Been there for donkey's years; it's kind of a landmark. What a mess. Idiots.

Someone on FB has mentioned Welling in SE London.

Two families from my DS2's nursery live on Clarence Road, pictured on the Telegraph site. I hope to God those kids are oblivious and asleep. My friend lives just off the top of the road. Her DH is overseas, she's with a child DS1's age and heavily pregnant. DS2's nursery is just off the main road from here. Another family of three DCs (youngest 4 mo) live just off Clarence Road.

So worried for them all.
