Enfield riots?

Just seen on Twitter and in a few articles like this, that there are meant to be plans for a riot in Enfield tonight and riot police are in the town centre?

Used to live there, and got family there (luckily a fair distance from the centre), but fucking hell! What the hell is going on?

bbc news has just reported carphone wharehouse on fire in clapam junction and also riots in chalk farm :(

festi · 09/08/2011 00:17

sky seems far more uptodate than bbc

festi · 09/08/2011 00:19

I want to go to bed but I am glued to the tv in shock. I just can't believe those animals are out there causing all that damage. Some of the gang members were so young too (the ones in Hackney), where do their parents think they are?

The fact they are now breaking into peoples houses now is so scary. It was bad enough when they were targeting the shops but now they are getting more and more out of control Sad

festi · 09/08/2011 00:23

me to im counting myself lucky I will not experience any of this and thinking of all those so close and affected.

IvyAndGold · 09/08/2011 00:23

Luckily it seems to be calming down in Birmingham, though it is still bad in Handsworth.

I can't believe anything that I'm seeing. I just can't process it. Everyone in London, stay safe.xx

CHBitchy · 09/08/2011 00:24

sky news is faster then bbc, and the link someone posted earlier is very quick.

Sky is reporting that residents near the shop fire in clapham (fancy dress?) are being asked to leave. scroll down to the live feed box thingy which is showing tweets etc

it seems out of control. Terribly terribly out of control

janelikesjam · 09/08/2011 00:24

Its like an open house. I don't know how the police are going to cope with this. There is no precedent in terms of geography. What would the police authorities do, I have no idea.... Call the army or a national state of emergency ... that would be humiliating for the government.

LittlePickleHead · 09/08/2011 00:24

I'm the same, it's really scary watching areas you know so well look like something out of a disaster movie :(

CHBitchy · 09/08/2011 00:25

And not exactly a great advert for the olympic games next year.

Empusa · 09/08/2011 00:28

"I'm the same, it's really scary watching areas you know so well look like something out of a disaster movie"

It really is.

Looking at photos and videos of destruction thinking, I've stood there. This isn't some Hollywood set :(

GypsyMoth · 09/08/2011 00:32

festi....i'm ex met police myself, and seeing regular officers going into a riot situation just brings back a few memories! they have a nightstick/vest.....thats it. no support available.

LittlePickleHead · 09/08/2011 00:33

Must go to bed. Will it stop? I just can't see how if the police seem so unable to stem the flow. Perhaps the army is the only answer but what action would they take?

IvyAndGold · 09/08/2011 00:34

Holyhead Road and Balsall Heath police stations in Handsworth, Birmingham now completely on fire :(

akaemmafrost · 09/08/2011 00:44

Scared now. All gone off in Ealing, literally five minutes drive from me. Don't want to go to bed, too scared.

Empusa · 09/08/2011 00:47

Rumours of an explosion in Waltham Cross.

So difficult to know what is actually happening.

sunshinelifeisgood · 09/08/2011 00:48

Empusa is that is right then it is not far from us and we are not near london. :(

MagicFingerGoesPop · 09/08/2011 00:48

Waltham Cross. Just googled.

Empusa · 09/08/2011 00:51

sunshine I'm freaked out enough by it happening in Hemel, seeing it spreading out of London terrifies me. I'm out in Hemel, and parents are in Slough. :(

Not quite far enough from London to feel safe.

sunshinelifeisgood · 09/08/2011 00:54

I agree empusa, I am glued to the tv screen and really should be in bed and am just watching and hearing reports of it coming further and further out of London. Just watching reports of riots breaking out in LIVERPOOL for gods sake.

LemonDifficult · 09/08/2011 00:54

Ken Livingston is waaaayyyy out of line campaigning on the back of this, 'I', 'me', 'when I was mayor'.... His opportunism is just gross.
