Enfield riots?

Just seen on Twitter and in a few articles like this, that there are meant to be plans for a riot in Enfield tonight and riot police are in the town centre?

Used to live there, and got family there (luckily a fair distance from the centre), but fucking hell! What the hell is going on?

emma Thank god for that!

And just so you don't all completely lose faith in mankind, check out this absolute angel :) Tell 'em, lady!

muminthecity · 08/08/2011 23:06

The smoke has disappeared now, I've heard on facebook that our local Macdonalds was set on fire, though it's not confirmed. Still lots of sirens.

bialystockandbloom · 08/08/2011 23:10

teejwood I heard the Palmerston was 'done over' Shock

Heard from a nearby friend that she was acting as refugee camp for friends of hers who live above a shop on Lordship Lane.

Helicopters seem to have gone quiet now though - fingers crossed.

missmiss · 08/08/2011 23:12

According to twitter, the Clapham Junction lot are heading to Balham now...

AbsDuCroissant · 08/08/2011 23:13

Agree dontwotzme - I thought it was bad when some douchebags were wanting to turn Trafalgar Square into Tahrir square Hmm because that was comparable. But now, seriously, FFS these kids need perspective.

janelikesjam · 08/08/2011 23:14

Journalist on BBC2 news reporting upset about lack of "opportunities" for young black women*, I think BBC leftwing bleeding-heart liberal bias just about apparent(!).

SpeedyGonzalez · 08/08/2011 23:15

Surely by now the army should have been deployed? This nonsense is out of hand.

teejwood · 08/08/2011 23:16

Ah bialy Sad we have so many lovely little businesses around Peckham & ED where people have worked so hard; it's terrible they have been targeted. the herne is their other place, isn't it? hope it's ok.

yy a friend in Sydenham Hill called to offer us refuge Grin - we're not in a flat above a shop but are just off Rye Lane (literally 30 secs walk) so it's been a bit hairy...

SpeedyGonzalez · 08/08/2011 23:17

arf at jane! I'm a (not-all-that-young) black woman...can't say I've ever been tempted to damage people and property for any reason.

On a lighter note did anyone see that photo of the moronic girl who got arrested for looting Currys...wearing her Curry's staff uniform! Clearly she'd had her eye on a hoover whilst on the shop floor and couldn't wait to pilfer it. Pillock.

teejwood · 08/08/2011 23:18

jane many other bbc reporters/anchors have been challenging people to justify such comments - is that also bleeding heart liberal bias Hmm

maighdlin · 08/08/2011 23:19

as with most rioting its pointless and will have little effect, just knobheads and scum with nothing better to do. I'm surprised NI has been quiet, the scumbags here love a riot and would probably start one in "solidarity". i fucking hate rioting and have grew up and always known it, in fact rioting doesn't even shock me, same with bomb scares, more major inconveniences than anything, a few months ago there was a few nights of rioting for no justifiable reason at the top of my street, buses hijacked and burnt out, and at the time the only thing that affected our lives was the noise of the police helicopter at night kept us awake, we are sadly blasse about it. there are just so many unevolved selfish scumbags out there wanting to hit and make pretty fires and throw the pretty fire at the bad policemen and just cause general destruction because its fun. after those riots the only people who were affected were the normal people with jobs who had to find a different way to get to work in the morning as the buses had been stopped to protect the drivers, while the actual wankstains who beat up the bus drivers and burnt out the buses causing thousands of pounds of damage lay in their beds nursing their hangovers texting each other to plan the next night. has a fag to came down

bialystockandbloom · 08/08/2011 23:25

teej we're sort of off Rye Lane too - which side are you? Bellenden Rd side?

janelikesjam · 08/08/2011 23:27

teejwood, that was just the bit i saw (urghhh...). SpdyGonzldz, I'm not being chippy, just a pathetic justification by BBC journalist. but if they want to do it, or if you want to make a joke of it, its a free country ...

teejwood · 08/08/2011 23:35

bialy yup - near the top of RL (ie near Primark etc!)
saw the little darlings going down to RL to join the fun earlier Hmm

i also passed Ganapati and the wonderful people there were decorating it so beautifully and with real love and care and attention and i thought if the little gits hurt them or ruin that work i will be bloody fuming
but then i would say the same about any of the Bellenden shops and cafes...

SpeedyGonzalez · 08/08/2011 23:38

jane - think your reply was directed to the wrong poster! Smile

TragicallyHip · 08/08/2011 23:40

Update:
2334: Unconfirmed rumours of trouble brewing in North West London ? receiving some info about Edgware and Canons Park at the moment. However, Harrow on the Hill station has reopened.

2333: Ealing has been well and truly struck by rioters. Rumours that they?re attacking anything in a uniform (police and fire). Commercial waste bins have been overturned (why?) and a further rumour has it that Nando?s there has been set alight. This appears to be false as far as we can tell.

2329: Rumours on Twitter that a tiger is on the loose. Ladies and gentlemen, I have seen the picture and can confirm that it is a rather fat tabby cat.

2328: BREAKING: Non-fatal shooting in Croydon, according to the Press Association newswire.

2326: The balloon has definitely gone up in Ealing! This is (was) a Smart car near the Broadway.

CaptainNancy · 08/08/2011 23:43

FFs- the tiger pic is from Italy in 2008. Hmm

GAGpeople.

teejwood · 08/08/2011 23:44

maighdlin unfortunately i know what you mean. still, silly season nearly over for another year...

janelikesjam · 08/08/2011 23:44

er, OK, spdygnzlz Hmm I have enough on my plate right now.

Its all actually pretty sad ... but I guess entirely predictable ...

janelikesjam · 08/08/2011 23:45

Ealing, Edgware, Harrow ... Shock

SpeedyGonzalez · 08/08/2011 23:48

jane - I think we've both misunderstood each other. I was actually agreeing with your original post. Anyway, let's just forget it - probably too complicated to comb through it all! Smile

caramelwaffle · 08/08/2011 23:53

Ealing shopping centre on fire.

bialystockandbloom · 08/08/2011 23:55

teejwood I think I'm probably quite near you, a bit further down off Bellenden Rd. Probably see each other in petitou and don't realise Smile

LauraIngallsWilder · 08/08/2011 23:55

OMG Harrow Shock really where????

That is where my parents are................

Empusa · 08/08/2011 23:58
