Just seen on Twitter and in a few articles like this, that there are meant to be plans for a riot in Enfield tonight and riot police are in the town centre?

Used to live there, and got family there (luckily a fair distance from the centre), but fucking hell! What the hell is going on?

My mum has her hammer next to her. She feels no way about taking it to any little thug who comes up on her doorstep.

Fifis25StottieCakes · 08/08/2011 22:29

send in the armed police, dogs, water cannons and army.

They deserve all they get

TDada · 08/08/2011 22:29

one thought....people who have nothing to lose...otherwise, senseless

TheGrimSweeper · 08/08/2011 22:30

Very very sad. I agree about bringing in the forces. In bushesque language, these thugs need to be hunted down and dealt with. This is thuggery for the most part and needs to be stamped on.

I'm just so horrified.

PainSnail · 08/08/2011 22:30

To be honest, if they are going to loot, I'd rather it was Iceland. Though apparently quite a few fires have been started in Ealing now.

IvyAndGold · 08/08/2011 22:33

Not heard anything for a while, the retail park by us is being looted royally, DP rang a restaurant there that he used to work at and friends work at, nobody had even fucking told them what was happening further up the park! So fucking angry! They've evacuated and got restaurant next door out too.

Also hear Wolverhampton city center is having a half mile exclusion zone put in place to stop it escalating, not sure if that's true though?

GetOutMyPub · 08/08/2011 22:34

also trouble in Fulham broadway - just how could a load of kids do so much widespread harm when Hitler, the IRA and Al qaeda failed!

muminthecity · 08/08/2011 22:34

Does anyone have any news on Penge? I'm hearing lots of sirens and can see smoke in the distance. Am home alone with 3 DC (2 of them aren't mine!) and starting to panic slightly Sad

Fifis25StottieCakes · 08/08/2011 22:35

if they are all claiming poverty they have probably doubled the council and HA lists

festi · 08/08/2011 22:37

apparently the police have retreated from clapham ffs.

Chummybud1 · 08/08/2011 22:37

Praying for all the innocents caught up in this. It nothing to do with price of living, and no longer about the police, it's about people if you can call them that, using the loss if someone's life to rampage and cause destruction. Bring in the army, time to make Britain safe, we are to soft on people like this.

PainSnail · 08/08/2011 22:40

Penge is quite near croyden isn't it muminthecity? It could be the smoke from there?

IvyAndGold · 08/08/2011 22:42

'The Childrens hospital has been hit. Rioters were smashing windows and attempted to bomb steelhouse lane police station. My friends mum was there and was escorted out of the hospital by police.'

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!?!?! :(:(:(

SpeedyGonzalez · 08/08/2011 22:44

Just seen this map covering the London violence. It was linked by a reporter from the Metro - think it's his map.

Bloody hell.

cpbp · 08/08/2011 22:44

My heart goes out to those who have been affected by this through the loss of their home, business and to those living in fear. So angry at the wild animals seemingly roaming free through our streets.

Sorry havent read all the previous posts. Hope you and your families are all safe.

Have just heard that there has been a fair amount of trouble in Lee High Road and trouble in Catford- both areas near to me. Heard that there has been trouble in Bromley too.

I work in the City and DH does not want me to travel in tomorrow as he is worried trouble will start there tomorrow and/or, I will have difficulty getting home.

Take care and stay safe.

teejwood · 08/08/2011 22:45

mumin there have been some seriously bad fires in croydon, it is likely to be that. reading between the lines police are racing between different areas of south east london trying to keep on top of things.

according to twitter peckham police station has been set alight. i fear it is time for the police to up the ante

tribeleader · 08/08/2011 22:46

this isn't political - this is what happens when parents and schools stop disiplining, when parents think their little darlings can do no wrong and let them get away with everything. They have raised animals, this isn't anything to do with poverty or boredom - the poorer in society are usually proud, decent people

I dearly hope, every single one of these scum get their legs broken and then get refused NHS care - wouldn't happen but one can wish

AbsDuCroissant · 08/08/2011 22:49

It's really tragic. The one area I know, Brixton, has recently been done up. A lot of work has gone into redoing the High Street, making it a nice place to be, and on Sunday they had Brixton Splash, which I was at last year - it was fabulous. Real sense of community. And now a group of mindless neanderthals have gone and ruined it :(

Nothing to report for NW london, but I have heard lots of police sirens etc. (presumably going to help out).

missmiss · 08/08/2011 22:51

There's a bit of activity in Balham but mainly sirens passing through. A few windows smashed and bins burned.

emmanumber3 · 08/08/2011 22:52

IvyandGold - thankfully, that one is just a rumour. Just heard on BRMB that the Children's Hospital has not experienced any problems. There are gangs in the area, just not troubling the hospital.

GypsyMoth · 08/08/2011 22:53

speedy ....that map is worrying!! seeing it like that

dontwotzme · 08/08/2011 22:55

Around the world we see human tragedy and destruction from tsunamis, hurricanes and volcanoes. How sad and pathetic it is to see our own idiots destroy everything so senselessly all by themselves.

mrsrat · 08/08/2011 22:56

Theresa May on tv saying rioters will face consequences. Crap . Only 35 people arrested so far and they will be out on bail in a few hours. Then what a few hours community service ?.

janelikesjam · 08/08/2011 23:00

Well, I am sitting here, I would have thought 1/4 miles away from the action, I am relieved to say.

But I can still hear siren after siren.

There will be a massive political fallout from this.

SpeedyGonzalez · 08/08/2011 23:02

dontwotzme - quite. I think of the people in Syria protesting for their very lives and freedom. So much dignity behind their protests. So much imbecility behind ours. Hmm
