Never mind the tasers from what it looks like they need water cannon. Honestly this is not so much a riot as grand scale thievery and destruction. It is utterly horrific.

What if some old biddy is stuck in their flat when one of these thugs (and yes I will use that phrase because that is what they are) sets fire to the building?

As for the spectators, laughing and having a great old time, they are just as guilty. Have they no conscience at all? There is and never will be an excuse for this behaviour. Watching a crowd trying to pull a tv off a wall it was like that documentary about the chimpanzees when they got in a rage, basic animals that is what they are. And in that docu the little monkey was ripped apart by them, I can imagine some innocents experiencing the same now.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 08/08/2011 22:29

So what 'race' started this then Cook? Because as far as I know there was a whole heap of people involved and they were certainly not of one race. Unless you have info I am not privy to? Dna samples perhaps? This is serious business. Enough rumour and speculation already and look where that has got us.

chipstick10 · 08/08/2011 22:34

Animals the lot of em. I feel such anger.

teejwood · 08/08/2011 22:36

rumours peckham police station has been set slight.

i give up now, there seems no end - time to ask PSNI if the Met can borrow their water cannons.

teejwood · 08/08/2011 22:37

set alight

as i didn't pay enough attention to the oh fuck rucksack thread i've turned to Wine instead...

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 08/08/2011 22:44

got friends by peckham police station .... any truth that it has been targeted?

bumpsoon · 08/08/2011 22:51

Where the hell did the media get the picture of mark duggan ? It cant of been from the parents surely ? Im thinking facebook. For all we know he might of been a community youth worker and the photo, a piss take . Or he might of been a gansta with a loaded gun. Or he might of been a normal but very scared bloke ,living in a not so good area . Time and an official enquiry will tell .

forehead · 08/08/2011 23:15

Just seen Edwina Currie on Newsnight. She's saying that black people are destroying their own communities. Hasn't the stupid woman seen the coverage, there are people of all races fgs.

LDNmummy · 08/08/2011 23:34

I think if this is highlighting anything, it is that racism is alive and well in Britain.

teejwood · 08/08/2011 23:40

cook i honestly don't know - just saw it on twitter so it could well be a load of nonsense!
in fact i hope it is!!
but this whole area has been trashed - no doubt about that Sad

Awomancalledhorse · 08/08/2011 23:42

I don't think Peckham Police Station is on fire ATM, have a mate in there atm...says they are barricaded in but no mention of fire.

teejwood · 08/08/2011 23:48

woman thank you for the clarification - that's a bit of a relief!
that's the problem with relying on snippits on twitter or the news to figure out what's going on because you daren't go out your door....
hope your mate is OK.

twinklypearls · 09/08/2011 01:35

Have people seen the "Don't talk Don't panic " leaflets found and posted on twitter ? I am not sure they are genuine , but if they are it suggests a highly organised element to the rioting.

breadandbutterfly · 09/08/2011 01:39

I hope they are genuine - suggests the rioters are living in fear too, of being caught. Which they should be. Lots of fear. Till it eats them up and they can't sleep at night.

Scared. Scared little bastards.

Awomancalledhorse · 09/08/2011 01:43

teejwood, hope everyone you know is alright too (same for everyone else)!

You know that Police Officers are really busy when they've not updated facebook for 4 hours!! Grin

Not looking forward to this lasting tomorrow too....when they've run out of 'decen't places to loot (phone, electrical, clothes shops), where will they go?

twinklypearls · 09/08/2011 01:47

I had not thought of looking at it that way breadandbutter

Ariesgirl · 09/08/2011 12:26

LDNMummy, do you really think that? Because I think that if this has highlighted anything it's that we have bred a generation of monstrous, desensitised little shits who have no fear of or respect towards anything, particularly their parent/s.

chipstick10 · 09/08/2011 12:42

LDNMummy Eh????!!!!!!!!

FellatioNelson · 09/08/2011 12:48

LDNMummy won't be happy until she's made us see that Mark Duggan's death and any subsequent rioting, looting and thuggery (even in totally unrelated communities) is everybody's fault except the fault of Mark Duggan and the people rioting and looting. Let's just agree with her before she wrings her hands away altogether.

LDNmummy · 09/08/2011 15:46

Aries I agree with you about the behaviour of these young people though I think there are deep underlying issues for it that society as a whole is responsible for. Plus, this kind of behaviour is nothing new as far as I am aware so I don't think this situation has unearthed it as anything new, just brought it to the forefront of people's minds.

Chipstick many comments have been made here on MN as well as in other places and forums alluding to this somehow being a result of failed multiculturalism and emphasising the involvement of black people while ignoring the fact that people of ALL backgrounds have been involved. Just read through the threads about the riots on MN and you will find many comments of this nature.

FN your comment is really childish, we hold different opinions and I have put forth my arguments in debate on this thread. I don't need to 'wring my hands away' fretting because people do not agree with me. Some people will and some will not. A few people on here have and obviously you do not, a debate is debate, not something to cry over. I'm happy no matter what you think, I don't hold your opinion on the situation as a highly important part of my existence actually.

maypole1 · 09/08/2011 16:41

Only in the UK could rioters in £100 trainers organising things on their £300 smartphones claim to be in poverty!

How the little children suffer Hmm

Al0uiseG · 09/08/2011 17:22

Yes, the phone of choice is a Blackberry, you can't be a proper rioter without a Blackberry. Hmm

Al0uiseG · 09/08/2011 17:24

Maypole I've pinched your statement for my Facebook status. :o

maypole1 · 09/08/2011 18:29

Greenwich has announced any one found to have been involved will be evicted

well done greenwich lets hope others follow suite

FellatioNelson · 09/08/2011 20:10

I am appalled at the number of young people there who are still technically children. If you lived within a ten mile radius of any of this shit would you not be demanding that your kids stay in? Shock

Therein lies the root of the problem I think.
