However, it is now not about race. It is about scum of all colours and creed participating in opportunitic crime - vandalism, arson, looting etc etc.

Some of the posters are sounding quite like Americans. Oh and I am American but some of the statements about someone deserving to be shot just because of X (and I am making no judgements- because I don't k ow the actual facts)- starts a very slippery slope. Where I live if you so much walk onto someone's private property- or if you steal something minor and are running away and I shoot you in the back of the head- too bad, you deserved it. There are people with stickers on their car hinting at thw fact that if you take away their 'right' to own guns and whoever (police?) were to try and stop them- beware. Be careful what you wish for. Some things lead down a very slippery slope....

I don't believe it will just be the black community that get the blame. It's pretty clear from the pictures that it's just youngish, boredish, aggressive young men of all types, letting rip.

It's appalling, I personally condemn it obviously, but it's exciting for the rioters and that's why other cities (who couldn't give a flying about the Met/Mark Duggan/opportunities for the people of Tottenham) are joining in. Quite a few young men think: that looks cool.

This isn't difficult to see and there's no reason any community will be victimised for it.

Cliff I was one who said about shooting and I can see your point but where do you draw the line? Our police are being hit by bricks, pipes, wood and petrol bombs, they have nothing but a shield and a baton to protect them, there has to be a middle ground where our police can protect themselves and innocent people/property.

It's heartbreaking watching this happen ATM and people want something done.

Oh I agree there should be something to be done and that there is no excuse for behavior like this- I am just trying to say that everyone needs to think carefully about what should be done and what that may mean in the future. Taser guns? Do you use them across the pond? They can also be dangerous, obv but may be ok for situations like this.
