NI's dirty tricks have already been identified, they use private detectives to dissect your life/history and that of your family all in a bid to destroy/control you/make money. They do not care how much pain this causes to your loved ones. Frankly the NI papers have even made up stories caused immense pain then resulting suicides (little boy in Oz)

Some of the detectives they have used have been deeply involved in the criminal underworld and there has indeed been murder most foul (followed by intimidation by NI of the investigating detective)

Frankly Louise Mensch dared to ask RM himself difficult questions in the select committee. She is brave this guy is no dalai lama!!!!!

Not surprisingly we have now heard Louise Mensch is now having her background gone over with a fine toothcomb.........these people will stop at nothing.

NI has exercised an appalling control over the met and politicians for many years. This was done through blackmail/threats and bribery. I think they all should be jailed as soon as possible and I am furious that RB and JM are not behind bars right now. They are not above the law (regardless of what money they paid certain police/legal people etc).

Louise Mensch is no angel but she is brave enough to stand up to people who have resorted to VERY dirty tricks to help us get true democracy back. For the first time in years those we should be able to trust are not effectively in the pockets of this aussie tycoon.

I don't want RM to say who gets voted in here because that party gives him more tv rights. I want people that rule us to fight the corrupt bankers/hedge fund managers who bleed the country dry, I want our politicians to really protect our nhs and not to privatise it by the back door. I don't want to have to sell my home to pay for my cancer treatment.

Most of all I am certainly no tory but I think anyone who has the nerve to stand of to this crowd of sharks has our backing and support. I may not agree with whatever she did in her twenties by goodness I support her now.

bkgirl · 31/07/2011 23:29

PS I think her discussions with and about PM are totally relevant....it is crucial to show that this was the culture in NI certainly at senior levels.Maybe people like Nancy didn't know anything but frankly I find it hard to believe. We have been reading this cr@p they have been up to for years in Private Eye and any good journalist reads and many spoon from it.

Anyway, this has got to big for the murdochs to contain the truth will out and no bent copper/lawyer/judge will be able to sit on it forever.

AwesomePan · 31/07/2011 23:47

iiirc, LM didn't ask any 'difficult questions'. Was she the member who asked RM if he was going to resign? I could have answered that one. I'm afraid the cmte didn't land a glove on any NI people. Good to see tho' that Jimmy's lack of knowledge re the Neville email is being opened up.

claig · 02/08/2011 09:09

Excellent Radio 4 programme on now - Beyond Hackgate with Rusbridger, Oborne and Jonathan Powell et al. Powell believes that things won't really change.

claig · 02/08/2011 09:20

Powell says that the newspaper that really drives fear into politicians is the Daily Mail.

teejwood · 02/08/2011 12:50

Hi everyone - been away for a while but it looks like everything is still ticking along in the background... and on that note we have new breaking news - a 70-yr old has been arrested regarding payments to police. According to a bod from the Guardian it is someone who was very public/important and high up in the NI organisation.

HedleyLamarr · 02/08/2011 13:15

Here's a link to what teej just posted

edam · 02/08/2011 13:52

The Guardian says it's Stuart Kuttner, former managing editor of the Screws.

LucaBrasi · 02/08/2011 20:07

The Cabinet Office approved that NI pay Andy Coulson's legal fees in the Tommy Sheridan trial!

I guess it's obvious thinking on it but still..Holy Fuck!

Jux · 03/08/2011 02:01

I'm afraid I agree with Powell. I don't think anything is going to change, I really really hope I'm wrong.

Thanks to you all for keeping on top of things and keeping me informed, btw.

Nancy66 · 03/08/2011 09:03

I think things will change for about a year - like they did after princess di was killed - then they'll slowly go back to the way they were

noddyholder · 03/08/2011 22:44

Heather mills now sticking the boot into piers come on!

edam · 03/08/2011 22:52

Heather Mills has a grudge.

The Tories, and News International's powerful supporters, have an interest in trying to make it 'not just about the Murdoch empire'. They are very, very, very keen to shift the blame or at least spread it about a bit.

Heather Mills, btw, made herself very unpopular with journalists. For a whole range of reasons but one of the key points was that early on she tried to take the credit for the work of a real journalist called Heather Mills.

edam · 03/08/2011 22:53

(Although to be fair Piers Morgan probably isn't much of a Boy Scout.)

noddyholder · 03/08/2011 23:27

I really don,t care about her credentials if it sees pm off

Ponders · 03/08/2011 23:42

I doubt very much if it will see PM off

it was probably Mills herself (cow) who leaked the phone message (whatever she says now Hmm)

The Insider is a v v v interesting read with hindsight. I happened to read it on holiday in June, before all this kicked off, & even then got the impression that PM kept his hands very clean.

There are literally only one or two anecdotes that make you think "so where did that story come from?" & really not even a sniff of a hint that PM/Mirror Group actually employed people to eg hack for them. (They might well have bought stuff that derived from hacking, but unlike NI it didn't seem likely that they had PIs on the payroll)

Ponders · 03/08/2011 23:46

& in several stories - like Jack Straw's son & the drugs - PM actually comes out of it very well.

(& yes I know it's him telling it, but assume the facts as related would be challenged if wrong)

noddyholder · 04/08/2011 08:35

I think the papers who employed these techniques will probably all be proved as using a similar framework to obtain information. I really despise PM though so that is probably colouring my opinion.

Terribletriplets · 08/08/2011 13:10

www.guardian.co.uk/media/greenslade/2011/aug/08/rebekahwade-newsinternational?CMP=twt_fdan.

It would appear that RB may not have resigned as a director of NI yet, as it might have appeared.

I hope that this thread does not get lost under all the other news. I still don't understand what is happening in October, apart from the (inevitable) rapture (again).

OOOh thanks Ponders good news indeed. Lets hope he tells the police everything Smile .

Ponders · 12/08/2011 12:25

ooooooooooOOOOOOOOOooooooooooh Shock

just got \link{http://blogs.channel4.com/snowblog/lies-beneath-ruins-news-world/16010\this Jon Snow} piece from Twitter

'Two incidents stand out in Rich?s account. The first is a multi million dollar corporate phone hacking case involving what he states was a payout of $29.5 million to settle. The second, during 9/11, involved the then serving News York Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik and a News Corp executive, Judith Regan who conducted an affair in an apartment intended for rescue workers, overlooking the still smouldering ruins of Ground Zero. It?s worth noting that Kerik only just failed to get Congressional approval to become George Bush?s head of Homeland Security in the period after the worst mainland attack on America in modern history.'

\link{http://nymag.com/news/frank-rich/murdoch-scandal-2011-8/\This is Frank Rich's article} (it's very long & dense - needs uninterrupted reading with brain in gear, I'm not up to that today Confused)

teejwood · 16/08/2011 10:37

Under the kosh at work so posting and running I'm afraid but just spotted an interesting update on Bloomberg news which says the CMS committee is reviewing evidence regarding James Murdoch today
