So is anyone going to continue buying NOTW?

Not that I ever really got it (holidays maybe for a bot of a laugh) but no more.

I wasn;t bothered too much by the celebs (though can see why they were obviously!) but to do that, its beyond disgusting.

But wiltl anything actually happen, or will they just repeat the usual lessons will be learnt shit

Having read the comments posted after mine about the Sun going 7 days a week, I stand by my "shitty rag" comment!

BoffinMum · 07/07/2011 17:19

They must think we're all total mugs if they think this will protect the NI brand in the way that they want.

On the other hand it's probably to avoid payouts to hackees. But perhaps they can go after NI anyway?

OddBoots · 07/07/2011 17:19

It's a bit of a risk for them though, this risks The Sun being sinking further in estimations at the public resent being taken for mugs.

MandaHugNKiss · 07/07/2011 17:22

It's all over?

RossettiConfetti · 07/07/2011 17:22

Have you seen that NOTW is offering free advertising space to any charities who want to publish their good works to their 'readership of millions'. I wonder if (a) any charities will take up this offer and (b) whether millions will be reading it this Sunday.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of people will buy it this Sunday, perhaps for 'historic' value if nothing else. It's a 'media event', the last in 168 years, they'll want to see what is being written in it.

MandaHugNKiss · 07/07/2011 17:23

Ah, I see the news has already been broken on the previous page Grin I'm a little sow on the uptake lately!

ilovesprouts · 07/07/2011 17:25

i read notw but im disgusted now

Flowerista · 07/07/2011 17:25

Strategic decsi

GrimmaTheNome · 07/07/2011 17:25

yes, Zac Goldsmith on R4 just said he might buy one for the first time ever to show his children in years to come how bad things were once.

Please don't. If you want to support any of the charities to which they are donating profits then just send the charity the money direct.

OddBoots · 07/07/2011 17:28

If the New of the World is to close will all those companies who said they won't be advertising in it say the same about advertising in The Sun (Sunday or otherwise)?

Flowerista · 07/07/2011 17:28

Strategic decision. Dump toxic NOTW try to look like good corporate citizens, then turn the Scum into a 7 day week rag and reckon that the public are so dumb we won't kick up a stink about the BskyB gig or dump our Sky subs. James tell your dad we aren't that stupid!

tortilla · 07/07/2011 17:48

My DH works in newspapers and he says that NOTW is the most profitable newspaper by far. No way they are ditching that just for moral reasons - got to be more to it whether the BSkyB thing or wanting the Sun to go 7 days for a while. Cheaper to have a newspaper 7 days rather than a whole separate Sunday title, given you don't need a whole separate staff or a different positioning. Can woo advertisers back to the Sunday Sun, as it is 'different', even though it is really just going to be NOTW by another name.

You've got to wonder what dirt Brooks has on the Murdochs that the paper rather than she has been sacrificed...

Has anyone started campaign to nip that in the bud ? I don't know how its done but it needs to be...

TheRealMBJ · 07/07/2011 17:53

I wonder what Brooks has on the Murdoch's....

tralalala · 07/07/2011 18:08

too right grimma and to stop them associaing themselves with The Sun

TheRealMBJ · 07/07/2011 18:17

Blush Awful misuse of apostrophe.

madamimadam · 07/07/2011 18:26

Grimma, what a good idea about sending donations direct to the charotoes themselves (Wonder if the charities will accept money form NI or whether NI will set up/donate to existing 'in house' charities, so money isn't turned down. Who wants blood money?)

Heartening though to see how many of us feel the same way. I know MN isn't representative of the nation but finding it hard to remember when there was such a consensus. Possibly because who would ever have thought NI, awful as it was would stoop to the depths it has to ensure its success?

Another one who won't touch a company associated with the Sunday Sun/Sun.
I know that could effectively leave me not buying anything again ever.

Anyone here up for a bit of bartering instead? Smile

ThisIsANiceCage · 07/07/2011 19:04

For anyone looking for charities to donate to:

Help for Heroes

Children in Need

Oxfam appeal for famine crisis in East Africa

meditrina · 07/07/2011 19:09

Help for Heroes is still associated with The Sun.

Try instead RBL - the Forces charity which had cut its ties.

happilyconfused · 07/07/2011 19:47

The excuse 'I didn't know what was going on' is no defence for any editor, especially as money was changing hands for information. Any editor where there has been a hacking scandal under their watch is guilty as they have condoned the actions of their subordinates.

happilyconfused · 07/07/2011 19:48

And I hope charities are not tempted by the 'free ad' offer ...

threestars · 07/07/2011 20:00

according the The Guardian's latest, Andy Coulson will be arrested in the morning. Everyone but Rebekah, eh?

madamimadam · 07/07/2011 20:04

threestars I'm almost tempted to put 'Everyone but Rebekah' on a t-shirt

Dianella · 07/07/2011 20:05

How about we ALL cancel our Sky Sports and Movies subscriptions? Surely we can live without these long enough to make them take notice. The idea of this sleazy outfit getting complete control of BSkyB, no matter what sort of dubious "undertakings" they've given Jeremy Hunt, is just not on. If MN could get a roll going and mass subscriptions cancelled that would really hurt them.
