So is anyone going to continue buying NOTW?

Not that I ever really got it (holidays maybe for a bot of a laugh) but no more.

I wasn;t bothered too much by the celebs (though can see why they were obviously!) but to do that, its beyond disgusting.

But wiltl anything actually happen, or will they just repeat the usual lessons will be learnt shit

I think the hacking is disgraceful and certainly deserving of a full impartial investigation but I do think that it just the tip of it.

I'd really like to see an in-depth enquiry into how one organisation was allowed to become so powerful and steps taken to rectify that. It is beyond wrong that people unelected could have the power that Murdoch and associates have.

GeorgeT · 07/07/2011 15:00

Never have bought NOTW or the SUN. Also won't have Sky as am not a Murdoch fan. What is equally concerning is that the takeover of BskyB is likely to go through. Given what has happened at the NOTW I find this quite disturbing

KatieScarlett2833 · 07/07/2011 15:50

DH will by the Scotsman (instead of the Times) from now on, had a look, not bad.

There is also one very shame-faced Sun reader at work who will no longer be buying it after the roasting he took today from his colleagues.

Sky off, looking into BT Vision.

No more Tesco here.

EightiesChick · 07/07/2011 16:41

BREAKING STORY ON SKY NEWS - This Sunday's edition of the NOTW will be the last. Closing down!! Statement from James Murdoch Grin Sorry for those losing their jobs though who knew nothing.

OnlyWantsOne · 07/07/2011 16:42

Murdoch has shut it down

Pannus · 07/07/2011 16:48

James Murdoch (Rupert DS) and Rebecca B desperately trying to wriggle off the hook.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 07/07/2011 16:50

I've only ever bought the occasional Sunday Times, but I'm not buying any News International rags from now on.

Shinyshoes1 · 07/07/2011 16:55

I'm boycotting - well trying to

Getting rid of SKY , not reading the sun, or buying the News of the World (not that I did anyway)

My DD LOVES Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly that will be very difficult for her, as they won't be on Freesat or Freeview Sad

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 07/07/2011 16:56

Never bought it. Oh, and in answer to a previous poster I am not a closet DM reader either!

BenHer · 07/07/2011 16:58

Rebekah Brooks should go to prison if found to be complicit.

culturemulcher · 07/07/2011 16:58

Nof the Screws to shut down. Hurray!

Hope Rebekah is axed too.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 07/07/2011 17:02

Please don't forget that The Times, The Sunday Times and The Sun are also part of News International....

Laugs · 07/07/2011 17:03

The Sun is going 7 days a week though...

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 07/07/2011 17:03

Oh and Peppa PIg is on channel 5! No need for Sky to watch that...

OddBoots · 07/07/2011 17:04

Worth investing in a few DVDs Shinyshoes1?

OddBoots · 07/07/2011 17:07

Shinyshoes1 actually I just looked at Peppa Pig ones on Amazon and they look to be £3.49 each with 10-12 stories each - I'm tempted myself and my children are older!

spursmummy · 07/07/2011 17:10

I'm proud to have been part of the protest against NOTW. But the Murdochs are not stupid, they'll wait till the fuss has died down and start some other shitty rag in NOTW's place hoping everyone will forget about what they've done/condoned.

RossettiConfetti · 07/07/2011 17:13

It's not a victory, it's just a rebranding exercise. NI have long thought about The Sun going seven days a week. It's a stronger, bigger team with a better website. It was being muted 6 years ago. This is just perfect timing that makes it look like a mea culpa from NI.

Can't believe hundreds of staff will be sacked while Rebecca Brooks keeps her job. She always was Queen of Wapping though - off with their heads!

culturemulcher · 07/07/2011 17:14

Watch out for The Sunday Sun at a newsagents near you...

OddBoots · 07/07/2011 17:14

www.guardian.co.uk/media/greenslade/2011/jun/28/newsinternational-rebekahwade They announced this in all but name last week. They think the public are stupid enough to fall for it, I hope not.

MoreBeta · 07/07/2011 17:14

Just seen elsewhere:

+++ Rumour The Sun staff have been told to prepare for a seven day operation.+++

Just heard that confirmed on another media channel.

TalkinPeace2 · 07/07/2011 17:14

Watch for the Sunday Sun on the news stand within the month

The name will change
the staff and attitudes will not until Rebekah is in prison where she belongs.

RossettiConfetti · 07/07/2011 17:16

Staff at The Sun have already been told it's going to be doing Sundays from now on - will be in your newsagents by July 17th.

Perhaps it will be a kick up the arse and a fresh start. Pigs might fly, you'd think, but this whole scandal is a kick up the arse for the British media and government. I think it could be a watershed moment.

TalkinPeace2 · 07/07/2011 17:18

ONLY if the BSkyB deal is blocked

RossettiConfetti · 07/07/2011 17:19

Don't forget it's not just Rebecca Brooks who is the guilty party. She's one of a few. Andy Coulson is not being name-checked so much, yet he was editor during the majority of the phone hacking scandals. And Brooks, Coulson and any other NOTW and The Sun editors were acting on Murdoch (both Rupert and James)'s express requests - they not only sanctioned the methods of getting stories, but pushed them.
If Brooks should to go to prison, the guys should as well.
