Well, yes, and my comment is, 'Big deal.'

Bonsoir · 10/10/2010 16:50

"What Foxy and her ilk fail to graps is that it's women like them that put so many off breastfeeding.

The whole worthy, knit-your-own-lentils, fairtrade coffee morning, home knitted sweater, vegetarian sandle wearing, make up free, tits out in Tesco brigade."

Really? The women who I know who have breastfed longest are glamorous, educated, well-travelled, groomed with lots of personality and style.

TrillianAstra · 10/10/2010 16:57

Yes buBonsior you only know women who are glamorous, educated, well-travelled, groomed with lots of personality and style.

Samantha Cameron gave birth in the middle of a family holiday, delivered by doctors and midwives she'd never met. Then she made her way home to a house she'd lived in for three months (next door) because her bit was being redone. As soon as she got home she had to put on the slap and get outside for the cameras. Then things settled down - as much as they do when you're married to a global figure - then her much loved fil died suddenly and she was accompanying her husband to a funeral again - 18 months after they buried her child - whose loss will be in every moment. Frankly if she hasn't got PND I would be astonished and she can feed her baby whatever she likes. It makes no difference to me or to anyone else. What does make a difference though is our lack of compassion and understanding for our sisters. For some reason breastfeeding threads bring this out in truckloads because some people think that political point is so important that they forget they are speaking about difficult choices made by women at their most vulnerable. Of course it would be great if every woman breastfed her own child - but in the whole of history we NEVER have. Supplementary feeding and wetnursing are as old as the hills.

Rindercella · 10/10/2010 17:03

Fabulous post.

Bonsoir · 10/10/2010 17:17

Why on earth do you think that, TrillianAstra?

I know all sorts of women... the vast majority of whom did not breastfeed!

OrmRenewed · 10/10/2010 17:18

Through the mouth?

ScaryFucker · 10/10/2010 17:21

do you know what ?

no amount of money in the world would have enabled me to breastfeed

unless of course, I employed the services of a wet nurse

perhaps that was what Foxy meant ???

a pic of the placenta you say ? < stays well away from Foxy's profile >

PaulineCampbellJones · 10/10/2010 17:21

Well put Northernlucker.

Litchick · 10/10/2010 17:25

Well said NL.
The fact that women appear to consider it acceptable to make comments about other women in this way, makes me sad and angry.

electra · 10/10/2010 17:30

This is such a pointless thread.

foxytocin · 10/10/2010 17:30

"yes and a daddy cuddle with her possibly over his shoulder would have done."

as violethill said to see a hands on dad is important but to be it is an ideal. Whose ideal though? Infant feeding irregardless of the method is not normally going to reach that ideal.

PS the quote by Xpat had a misplaced and unfortunate NOT in it. I am did see it at the time but had posted already and despite typing now, I am busy today and I'm not reading every post. just skimming one two.

as you were, ladies.

Straightjacket for the OP and pronto. Woman(?) you are well and truly mad!
Who has the right to decide how a mother should feed her baby? Who has the right to judge?
You?
Seems you forgot your meds....

Needanewname · 10/10/2010 17:35

Op what business is it of yours? I breastfed both my girls, not sure if I'd gave wanted to with the worlds press looking on but there you go.

Do you know why baby cam was being bottle fed? Do you know Sam cams medical history? Even if you do it has fuck all to do with you so butt out! It's comments like that that are spook unhelpful and unsupportve to new mums

PuppyMonkey · 10/10/2010 17:38

Northernlurker for PM.

The only purpose these kind of threads serve is to make the BF lobby look like uncaring tits. Pardon the pun.

Mingg · 10/10/2010 17:39

Why is how Samantha Cameron feeds her baby anyone's business but hers?

phipps · 10/10/2010 17:39

Pointless post and a looking for a fight one too. Hmm

TheFallenMadonna · 10/10/2010 17:41

I don't get it.

Well, I get chibi's post actually. About the stereotyped 'hands on dad' image.

And I get the normalising formula feeding thing too.

But I think personalising this, especially to a woman who has had so much in the way of upheaval and grief recently, is really unnecessary.

Because you criticise DC for the photo in your first posts, but your later posts are indeed personal to his wife.

foxytocin · 10/10/2010 17:42

has anyone read and responded to this question of mine yet?

"
FWIW, I did not comment in my OP what this child is being fed. I asked posters to have a guess and a few did! I don't know what was in the bottle either.

a load of MN assumptions about me what was in the bottle followed quickly, however. grin and I am a nutter for asking the question? "

can't find an answer yet.

Thisisyesterday:

I had no intention good or bad when linking this. It was newsworthy apparently so I stuck it in 'IntheNews'.

OP posts:
TheFallenMadonna · 10/10/2010 17:47

The only question in that post is whether or not you're a nutter...Confused

yerblurt · 10/10/2010 17:51

big deal, this is such a pointless thread.

who cares?

Litchick · 10/10/2010 17:51

I don't think the OP is a nutter.
I think she wanted to make a point about politics/wealth and breast feeding.

But as we can see, women of all different politicval stripes, and women who are fully supportive of BF have utterly refused to comment critically on another woman's choices, particulary given that woman's very unusual circumstances.

phipps · 10/10/2010 17:51

Of course if you were asking a genuine guess the milk question you wouldn't have kicked off when people said how out of order you were.

NoahAndTheWhale · 10/10/2010 17:52

Haven't read thread as I have party fatigue.

I hope the baby is being either:

Fully breast fed
Fully formula fed
Partly breast and partly formula fed.

I am very much pro breastfeeding but it is really no concern of mine how Samantha Cameron is feeding her baby.
