If a realist means that you have to get upset about motivations behind a simple picture of the PM -then count me out!

People should read right through this thread-it is utterly pathetic. So much so that I shall stop reading it! It really doesn't matter what was in the bottle or what the motivations were-as normal, sensible, intelligent women -we should have have more important things to do, or worry about!!

Hullygully · 11/10/2010 09:59

or what the motivations were

You don't think politician's motivations matter?

I repeat, a gift.

piscesmoon · 11/10/2010 10:01

I repeat-I don't care!!! Why make it sound as if I should?

pommedeterre · 11/10/2010 10:01

She looks very short but then I have a very long one (baby).
Agree that SamCam does not have a responsability to the country to breastfeed. What a ludicrous thing to suggest.

Hullygully · 11/10/2010 10:06

pisces, we live in a democracy. It behoves all people who have a vote to care.

expatinscotland · 11/10/2010 10:06

'The only thing that puts me off long term breast feeding or even voicing my support for it is a fear of developing the nasty, judgemental attitude displayed by some people on MN.'

You let internet sprites dictate decisions in your life?

Ludicrous.

pommedeterre · 11/10/2010 10:07

Also, in terms of the posing for photo debate maybe they have never been on mumsnet and don't understand totally the bf vs ff 'thing'.
Because, really, it does only exist on mumsnet.

Hullygully · 11/10/2010 10:09

And it doesn't make sense.

This doesn't make sense either. But it's quite scary.

piscesmoon · 11/10/2010 10:14

I always vote, Hullygully.
I have strong views.
I don't think that how the Camerons choose to feed their baby is a, anyone's business or b,relects on his political ability.
I don't think that you can surmise-not having met me, not knowing how I vote and notknowing my views on the way that the government running the country-that I am a gift. In fact it is insulting to generalise in such a way.
If women are stupid enough to think 'Samantha Cameron is bfing therefore I must' or 'Samantha Cameron uses bottles therefore it is the thing to do' they are complete loons! I agree with pommedeterre-she doesn't have any responsibility to the country over her feeding methods.
I really will stop reading!

wannaBe · 11/10/2010 10:16

I think that some of the people on this thread (and others like it) do more damage to the image of breastfeeding than any lack of information/support can ever do.

Shouting about how x and y bottle fed their baby does not send out the message that women who breastfeed are trying to do the best for their babies, it sends out the message that women who breastfeed are obnoxious, judgemental, smug women who look down on others because they think that they are superior to them.

Is it any wonder that so many women don't want to bf in public - who the hell wants to be associated with that image?

Giddyup · 11/10/2010 10:18

Of course I wouldn't really worry about developing that attitude! I am a normal human with enough going on in my own life and enough insight to see that behaving in such a way would ultimately be detrimental to the cause I felt so passionate about.

DinahRod · 11/10/2010 10:22

Am feeding ds EBM in a bottle reading this thread - shade is FB pointing

Am a bit bemused by Foxy, she's given me some good advice re bf, but don't agree with her pov here - NorthernLurker has really hit ot on the nose.

Otoh, I now know what a placenta looks like!

And thanks Foxy for the link to the sterilising thread, am goiung to read and intwardly digest.

Hullygully · 11/10/2010 10:27

Ok, this is my last post too. It is lovely that no one minds what's in the sodding bottle.

BUT IT IS NOT THE POINT.

pommedeterre · 11/10/2010 10:28

I have never, ever heard the bf vs ff debate carry on in RL the way it does on mumsnet Hullygully.
IOf SamCam has never been on bandbfeedinf forum then maybe she doesn't realise she could be quite so harshly judged for giving her baby nutrition.

prettybird · 11/10/2010 10:31

I had a salutory lesson re judging last week Blush: my brother rushed in to my dad's house (we were over for a family dinner) and started washing out some bottles. I thought :(, SIL has found copuing with breastfeeding twins too much - that's a shame :(. She was in fact, in the process of expressing for the two of them, as she hasn't been able to get the hang of feeding them both at the same time, so the quickest way to get milk into both of them (as they were wanting fed) was to give them EBM. (They are only 8 weeks old - 3 weeks corrected - so don't need much).

Shame on me for assuming Blush

prettybird · 11/10/2010 10:33

9and BTW: if she had decided to start FF, that would have been fine of course - I just knew that she was keen to continue breast feeding and I was feeling :( for her)

bluecardi · 11/10/2010 10:33

Why's he feeding the baby when he's at a big work event? Surely his wife should be doing this.

AbsofCroissant · 11/10/2010 10:34

Damnit. I thought it was going to be pictures of him feeding the baby Guinness.

This is much more boring.

bluecardi · 11/10/2010 10:35

I don't mean bf or ff debate - it just strikes me as strange that he's doing the childcare when his wife should be (or the hired help)

AbsofCroissant · 11/10/2010 10:36

Because it's a tremendously good photo op?

piscesmoon · 11/10/2010 10:39

My very last post-but that is the whole point that Hullygully is making, bluecardi-it isn't the bottle -it is the reason for showing DC with his baby (or I could be making the wrong assumption)

bluecardi · 11/10/2010 10:42

but why isn't samcam at home with her 6 week old baby? what's she doing there?

Mitzicoco · 11/10/2010 10:46

Poor Foxy!It can't be nice feeling so indignant! Just try to let it all go....you will feel so much better :)

piscesmoon · 11/10/2010 10:49

She is providing photo opportunities for her DH-bluecardi-people behind the scenes think it is good for votes!! (they didn't account for MN)
